I am having to have everything redone by PROFESSIONALS. front door leaks, windows wont open, trim paintwork, had to replace carpeting from paint everywhere, house smells like natural gas.. He didn’t finish the job over a $ 100 verti glide they broke. Which turned out to be a blessing. DO not hire him. wish I could post pictures. I waited 40 yrs to do this upgrade and I cry, everyday I find some more of a mess. I paid this man 62k. he will blame everything on you and the little extra he did. which doesn’t make up for all I’m having to have redo. Steer clear from CLAY L

I bought two Amazon Local deals for interior painting– that’s eight hours of painting. I really wanted to finish my kitchen and this seemed like a good deal. I contacted Clay, who responded, and said it would be months before his crew could schedule it. That meant work would be done after the expiration date of the coupons, but I was cool with it. But then, after about a DOZENORMORE phone calls and emails, this dude suddenly disappears off the planet. Not one single response, not one single effort to get in touch with me. This was over the period of about a month as well, so it’s not like I only tried to contact him during a busy day or week even. Thankfully Amazon agreed, and refunded the work after the expiration date. Avoid this guy. A company that can’t even have the professionalism and class to contact people who’ve paid them clearly can’t value customer service much. My experience was, in one single word, atrocious. If I had to pick a second word it would be, amateur.

I am writing this review because I want to warn people that in our experience Clay L of HomeWorks is not honest. He came to our house to give a bid, and he said $ 50 per hour. He never ever said«$ 50 per hour per carpenter.» As a matter of fact, when we agreed to hire him, we did not even know that he had another carpenter working with him as he did not mention this. On the day the work began, he brought a helper, but we did not think anything of it since we thought it was a flat $ 50 per hour. Now, as soon as my husband put a negative review on Unilocal,Clay L claims that we were supposed to pay $ 50 for BOTH carpenters, so $ 100 an hour when he never mentioned this before. When the hours went way over what he estimated, my husband tried to negotiate the bill down(only by a little bit). Clay said it would take 2.5 or 3 hours, and then we requested some more work, which he said would be another hour of work. However, by the end, it had taken them 8.5 hours to finish the work, twice the amount agreed upon. They also forgot some of the parts from the store(not our fault) and had to go back twice, wanting to charge us twice for going to the store when it was not our fault they forgot the parts. When Clay said the bill is non-negotiable, my husband then agreed to send the check in full(which we did). However, we really began to see Clay L’s true colors after my husband wrote a netural(not even negative!) review here on Unilocal. All he said in this review was that Clay’s work is good, but be careful of his bids since you may end up paying way more than you expected. In all honesty if we had we known it was going to cost so much, we would not have hired him — but that is of course why we got his«bid» first! As soon as my husband posted the review, Clay wrote him a very rude email, calling him a liar and a cheat for writing the Unilocal review! He ended the email with«karma is a bi***.» Tell me, what type professional businessman reacts in this manner to a negative reivew on Unilocal? When my husband updated his review to reflect how rudely Clay had treated him, Clay began writing all kinds of horrible insults about my husband publicly here on Unilocal. He then revised his original bill(which we had already paid) and said he would«stick it to us» for not appreciating his work on Unilocal. He wants us to pay $ 50PERCARPENTER now, double the amount he already charged us. This is completely dishonest! As I said, he never told us his rate was per carpenter. I was compelled to write this review based on Clay L’s insulting words about my husband. If there is anything that my husband and I am, it is honest. We paid Clay L for his work, even though it was much more than he originally told us. It is also very insulting that he told my husband to «go back where you came from». My husband has lived in the U.S. for 10 years and anyone who knows him can testify he is a kind, honest, hard-working man who contributes greatly in his job and community.

Update to my last review: I’m lowering the rating and posting an update as Clay L., owner of HomeWorks LLC on Aurora is quite frankly stooping to levels I have not encountered in any of my business dealings anywhere. Apparently my prior post on Unilocal pissed him off so much(he can’t seem to handle a 3 star review) that his ‘nice laid back’ façade quickly faded and quite honestly an extortionist thug emerged. Basically, the owner of HomeWorks has been: 1) Harassing me on email and in this forum, sending over 15 – 20 emails riddled with verbal abuses and attempts at extorting, despite my passive attempts to request him to back off. He used words like ‘liar’, ‘cheat’ etc. He also said pardon my language, ‘Karma is a b***h’, ‘sc** you’. The judge granted me a restraining order against him without a blink after reviewing his crazy correspondence. 2) Threatened me with a lien, small claims etc although I agreed to pay him in full for his invoice despite not being happy with the work, see my original comment. He cashed the first installment of payment and then denied it! Although I sent him a check for the third installment completing the payments as agreed he denied receiving it. Basically with this guy nothing short of ‘delivery confirmation’ will work if he’s trying to hold off for more. By more I mean he’s fraudulently revised the invoice after the work was completed, all this after I wrote him a Unilocal review that made him decide to ‘stick it to me’. 3) He also lashed out at me for expressing my opinion on a public forum( Unilocal) which would value other potential clients, incidentally where I discovered him in the first place. Clearly, Clay has no problem receiving business from Unilocal. He also does not care about misleading his customers, look no further than the 10 – 11 reviews fake 5 star gushing reviews here that Unilocal has filtered. 4) He told me to ‘go back to where I’m from’. I am a resident of Seattle for the past 6 years and happily settled here. Furthermore, he said asked me if I speak Spanish well to pickup cheap laborers outside of Home Depot. Clay guess what, there are many ‘Spanish speaking people’ who I have called friends and business associates, and they are way more professional than you are. I stand by my right to review a business based on my experiences, and refuse to be intimidated. Unilocal exists for that. I needed to employ an attorney to manage this maniac. I hope my experience is atypical. Shocking indeed!!!

I recently had some work done by them and am absolutely delighted with the outcome. I sort of stumbled into this business when searching online for a contractor to repair a wall in the bathroom that was affected by water damage. I got quotes from other general handymen services, general contractors, and wall specialists. The rates varied considerable as I expected. I chose to go with Clay(the president of HomeWorks) because he seemed honest, had a great price, and seemed like he was committed to doing the job right. I couldn’t have been more thankful. He was incredibly thorough; for instance, perfectly matching the color of caulk in the bathroom and coming back multiple times to get it finished just right. He also made some suggestions along the way of minor, inexpensive things he could do to prevent any problems in the future. He also handled a couple odds and ends(replaced garbage disposal and fixed kitchen cabinets) that came up simultaneously. Overall, I am very satisfied and know where to go in the future.
