If I could give this place a thousand stars, I would. It’s operated by Magnolia Lawn & Garden – so I’m also going to put this same review on their main business page here: Here’s my Holman Road Christmas Trees story: Last Friday night, my two roommates and I went down to the tree lot at 3rd& Holman. We didn’t have much time – but we knew we wanted a Noble Fir(a more expensive tree), and that we needed about 6.5′. We went in with a budget – that was apparently appropriate for last year’s tree prices.(PS. If you’re hunting for a noble, please be warned that prices are a bit high this year!) We found the PERFECT tree REALLY quickly, and a guy carried it over for us to check out – and started cutting the stump fresh and wrapping it – when we heard how expensive it would be… which was just a little outside of our budget. SO, we went over to tell the guy wrapping our tree that we’d have to find a different one, and it turned out that the guy wrapping our tree was the owner. He asked us what our budget was, and we told him(it was about $ 20 under what they wanted for the tree), and he told us we could have it for our budget price – but that we had to bring them cookies in return. SO – ecstatic – we agreed. The next day, I whipped up a batch of Kahlua White Chocolate cookies, and brought them over to the lot. The owner, and the guys on staff, seemed pretty stinking happy to receive the cookies – warm fuzzies all around. That little act of kindness from the owner has earned him a Christmas tree customer for life. Thanks, Magnolia Lawn & Garden! We love our tree!

$ 10.00/ft for a Noble is about the going rate these days, so I wasn’t dealt any kind of sticker shock. They do a pretty decent job of helping out as best they can here with limited staff, and the location is close enough to my house that I can tie the tree down with Bubble-Tape gum if I had to in order to get it home. What makes these folks stand out is the service they seem to happily provide. I must preface this with the obligatory«I’m not a total miser» disclaimer: I found a roughly 7.5-ft Noble that would fit nicely into the corner of my front room perfectly. The bad part was that the bottom of the tree was uncharacteristically bushy, and there was a fairly significant void on what was going to be the back-side of the tree. When I mentioned that I like it, but $ 10.00/ft seemed steep for such an uneven tree, they immediately said they could let it go at $ 7.50/ft instead, which effectively hacked two-feet off the price. They bundled the tree and tied it down on my car in fast order. I tipped the guy five bucks for the effort and was off. When I got home, I realized I spaced and forgot to pick up a reith. I pulled the tree and set it aside and cruised back down there. I went and grabbed the reith of choice and the gal recognized me as having just paid for a tree a few minutes earlier and saw me leave. She was happy that I came back for the reith and hacked the price in half. What’s up with that? I’ll be a loyal customer of this Tanenbaum depot for some time to come with how helpful they are here, and they sure do seem to get some of the best trees!

Katie S, darn you! Wanting to get a tree TODAY of all times… did she not see hell itself outside, with the snow, slush, rain and wind? All is forgiven. We have gotten a few trees from here over the past couple of years — the people are way friendly and helpful, and they always have a pretty good selection of the smaller trees. Our«bit bigger than a tabletop» tree ran us $ 20 — not too shabby! They gave it a fresh cut at the bottom. Now I just need to break out the PORNanments and get to decorating…

‘Mr. Parker: [to Mother] You know, Zudock just bought of those brand new green, plastic trees. Tree Man: Oh no! Mr. Parker: Darn thing looked like it was made of green pipe cleaners. Hee hee hee hee. Mother: It’s a very nice tree. Tree Man: [Quickly] I’ll thrown in some rope and tie it to your car for you. Mr. Parker: You got a deal. Tree Man: Deal. ‘ (The above was ganked from ‘A Christmas Story’, of course.) Gots me a 7′ Noble fir for $ 70, and let me tell you, it is the best lookin’ tree I’ve ever bought. Granted, it’s the only Christmas tree I’ve ever bought. but I digress. You’re going to pay a little more here for a tree, but they’re really nice and will tie it to your car for you. Ask for Keel. He’s the man. Funny and as helpful as they come! Besides, he told me that if I watered it regularly enough, it’ll last through March. Who says you can’t have a St. Patrick’s Day Tree? Now, where’d I put those green lights…
