Dr Heitritter is an active listener. She is a very positve doctor, and makes you feel like you are her favorite patient. She is also very knowledgable. I always look forward to an appointment with her.

I wish I could give Dr. Heitritter 10 stars, she changed my life and my health. She’s the first doctor that has listened to me and figured out what is going on in my body in more than 10 years. I thought I was crazy, but after she did my blood analysis she found out that I’m not crazy, I’ve just been untreated for years for an underactive thyroid and PCOS and it made a host of symptoms. My bloodwork has finally balanced out after a year of treatment and her watching over me and encouraging me and I can’t thank her enough. I would recommend that anyone with even a question of why they don’t feel ‘normal’ go see her and have her do a full blood analysis. I pay for my own healthcare and I think every dollar I’ve ever spent on blood work, office visits, and medicine from Dr. Heitritter has been worth every penny.

I saw Dr. Heitritter about 4 to 5 years ago, approximately. I think that Dr. Heitritter is very knowledgeable in her field of expertise, but I don’t believe she was patient and compassionate enough toward me. As a patient of hers, I felt«dismissed and confused» of how it was possible for me to have hypothyroid for a few years and then converting into having hyperthyroidism or Grave’s disease. I wanted explanations on how this was possible but did not receive any answers and when I refused to take anymore medications for my Grave’s disease… she never asked to make another appointment with her. In the time that I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism I was only able to see her once a year, per her recommendation. So, was that even sufficient enough for someone taking any medications? I don’t know, but maybe I should have asked more questions at the time. but didn’t know the right questions to ask. Now that I have hyperthyroidism or Grave’s disease, I feel scared more than ever to trust another Endocrinologist. Currently I am seeing an alternative medicine physician but also currently looking for another Endocrinologist that’s willing to be treated as if «you were family, instead of another patient». Therefore, I believe she might be knowledgeable in her field but when put to practice I believe that in «doctor-patient relationship» she is definitely lacking.

Dr. Heitritter is really excellent. I am very pleased with the care I’ve received from her. That said, the staff that works with her in the Polyclinic leaves enough to be desired that I am trying other doctors. I have been treated rudely or dismissively enough times there(in three years of seeing her regularly and two years less regularly) that I’m quite tired of it. Once, I had a severe emergency in which I had a non-functional insulin pump and needed directions on dosage with Lantus(which didn’t even exist the last time I had to give myself shots). I was really appalled by the way the intermediary person talked to me. As though I was wasting her time.(I am not sure if she is staff or a nurse, but she has been around as long as I have been going there.) After another tiresome episode again today, I opted NOT to schedule another appointment and instead decided to look for another doctor. The experience of going to see a medical professional includes all the interactions you have surrounding your treatment. Dr. Heitritter is competent and kind, but she can’t possibly be the only one out there. It is really too bad.

If you are looking for an endocrinologist I highly recommend Dr. Shannon Heitritter at the Polyclinic on Broadway. I started seeing her over a year ago and found her to be friendly, knowledgeable and most importantly very thorough. She was very attentive and took time to listen to my symptoms.
