Group Health Eye Care

I am not entirely certain why anyone would come here for their vision care unless it was absolutely free with their Group Health insurance plan.
The optometrists that work here are friendly, although from the previous review it seems not always knowledgeable. The main problem with this location is that you can get the equivalent or better service much faster for a fraction of the price elsewhere.
I had Group Health insurance, and needed just a routine refraction to update my prescription to get new glasses, and I figured going to a Group Health clinic would be the fastest and cheapest way to do it. Wrong on both counts. First, it took a few weeks to get an appointment at a time that I could actually get here. Second, I was told by the clinic that there would be no co-​pay or cost share for the appointment, and that it would be completely covered by my Group Health insurance. Imagine my surprise, then, when I received a bill for $ 300 for a five minute eye exam a month later. I appealed to Group Health based on the information the clinic gave me, but to no avail. Needless to say, that was one of the most expensive five minutes of my life, and I definitely won’t be back.
If this place is that expensive for people with Group Health insurance, I can’t imagine what it costs for everyone else. Even if you have Group Health, you’re better off with a $ 50 same-​day appointment at Target.

***EDIT: Found out that the first doctor I saw there gave me an entirely wrong prescription. The second doctor I saw actually got it right but it shouldn’t take a month and a half to do this right!
Second, the cons:
1)Even though I said I needed an extremely specific prescription or else I’d get double vision and provided the contact information for my last eye care professional, no one there contacted that provider OR asked me to sign a release of information form before I left my eye appointment. I told three different people at the clinic, including the doc and the opticians, about what happens when my eye wear isn’t made correctly.
2) When I picked up the glasses I bought, they were so bad I couldn’t walk without stumbling. I knew the moment I put them on that they weren’t made correctly and told the optician that. The response? Wear them for the weekend before deciding. Why? Why should I have to attempt to wear something that makes me nauseous from the get go? I get that I came in at an hour or so to close and they couldn’t do anything that day but that doesn’t mean I should have sub-​par eyeglasses foisted on me.
3) After finally getting my old Rx to them (verified by 3 separate people, including one in the optical department), I go in to turn in the glasses to get remade and… They lost the Rx. In the span of 3 hours. What the hell?
4) Get a call this morning from optical asking me to contact my old eye professional yet again for that prescription because apparently its too much work (paraphrasing) to go from optical to optometry (in the same office suite, about twenty steps apart) to look for that information.
I am extremely upset that its taking well over three weeks to get this right. Once I get this pair of glasses, I will never go to the Northgate/​Mapleleaf eye clinic again, even though I really like my doc. The service was just terrible.

Was told a contact fitting would cost $ 75. Was charged $ 350, $ 275 for a 15 minute eye exam I didn’t need (or ask for). Tried to fix, but the office failed to help. Beware and avoid if possible. Same service as Walmart for 8x the price.
