I say don’t check out Fremont Community therapy project and here is why: I was assigned a therapist student with Masters who in our first session together, asked me if I was sexually abused as a child. When I said yes, She asked me if I enjoyed it, and what kind of implements were used, did my attackers use their phallus, or objects? I found this really odd and so I asked to speak to the director of the program. When I told her what the therapist had said to me, she said she didn’t believe me. I asked her to go back and listen to the tape recorded session, give me a new therapist, and get back to me. They still made me pay for the session and I got a new therapist. The director never got back with me. The new therapist just made me cry for four months and send me home. I asked for us to set goals, I asked for structure. and our sessions were exactly like what I would have gotten from a bartender or a friend. So I fired her and quit going. If I can sue them I might look into it but it is really low down on my list of priorities right now and will probably never happen. Instead, I will just shout at the world to never ever go here.

Mike — I heard that they are actually losing their NP? It pains me to give them anything other then five stars since there are so few low cost clinics in the area to refer people too especially any with a trauma history but people need to know that they are still students.(ie they aren’t paid to work there). Always make sure to do your due diligence and check the background of anyone(the WA State Dept of Health has a data base) of any counselors who you are going to see plus whoever is their supervisor since the counselors are all students. Also check to be sure that their«style» matches your problem and ask them if they use a manualized approach and how much experience they have with your specific problem to make sure it is a good match. Some have years of experience but some are going straight through school and they might not be a good match for married couples or those with kids. Everyone is licensed and well supervised though so you will have more then one person providing support to your therapist. Is a really valuable community resource and if you lack insurance and need someone to talk to they are pretty good but probably best for people who need supportive vs depth work.. Just don’t expect someone with much experience and know that they can refer people out. They often have a waiting list but it is worth the wait

Low cost therapy alternative for people needing the help but don’t have the $$ nor insurance. Therapists are in internship for their doctoral degrees so they are usually experienced and provide quality care. They also have a psychiatric nurse practitioner for medications. I have referred many people there over the years and am thankful our community has this resource!
