We stopped by this store to brouse the aisles with no real intention to buy anything. The aisles were crowded with high quality cookware of every description. A delight for anyone who enjoys cooking. We spotted several items that would be great gifts… After talking with the very nice owners, I decided to buy my son(who lives in Ballard) some Christmas presents. We presented them with the problem that we would be returning to southern California, where my son will join us for Christmas. It didn’t make sense to fly stuff down that he would then have to fly home. They suggested that I could buy the presents, I could give my son a card and the gift receipt, and he could collect the present when he came home. Genius! The owners put my gifts into a gift bag, topped it with crumpled purple tissue paper, and put it into the back to await my son’s return.

I have bought things here in the past. It’s a beautiful store and a fun place to browse. This weekend, they were having a cooking class. The doors to the store were open and the sale racks were outside on the sidewalk. I brought something to purchase to the cash register inside. Both people doing the cooking demonstration made eye contact with me but no one came to help me. No «just a minute» gesture, no smile, nothing. I assume since the merchandise was outside, doors were wide open, and there were other ppl browsing the store that they were open for business. I stood up there for a good 2 minutes and no one came to check me out. I put my item on the counter and left. If the owner reads this, it is important to have someone on the look-out for customers looking to buy merchandise from your store if your doors are open!

Culinary Essentials is a new Cooking School and Kitchen Store that opened for business one year ago and is nestled in the heart of Ballard, Washington. The owner Debbie Jaffe is very familiar with this space having had a similar store in Bellevue, Washington for thirty two years. Debbie hosts some of the top chefs to teach different culinary cuisine every month. She recently had Chef Kirk Delasandro teaching Italian favorites and pizza, Chef Daniel Premo teaching dairy and gluten free baking, as well as Food and Wine Magazine’s pick for top pastry chef on the west coast, Lora Pyles. When you know all the culinary technology you need is in one spot, it is your one stop shopping for kitchen supplies forever! Thank you Culinary Essentials for being a part of my extended culinary community.
