Went there on a Saturday(5÷7÷16). Very nice venue with poor management. Has a lot of potential but lacks vision and direction. What I did eat was OVERPRICED and the drinks as well. Especially after paying $ 15 cover for a band that started more than an hour late(after 11) and only played about 6 songs. I don’t see myself going to the Sur again. Had lunch here before and wasn’t impressed.

Food was ok, nothing special… way overpriced for what you get. I got the feeling that they think their place is super cool, and hip, therefore they factor that into the prices… also the nightclub gets crazy dangerous sometimes, full of the wannabe latin«alpha male”/gangster types… i personally witnessed what seemed like a 200 person quasi-rumble out in front and the side and the back of this place one night either fighting/arguing or seemingly wanting/looking for trouble, and of course they have the standard asshole goon«security team» there as well to screw with you in the event you are actually in a POSITIVE mood

I saw the Cumbieros at club Sur, April 15. I thought the environment was great; the space was well organized; the acoustics were well controlled for a place with such a high ceiling; and the energy was awesome. For those of you who have been critical of the food served, maybe you attended on an off-night, but my Cuban vegetable bowl was spicy, delicious, and left me desiring more malbec. So… I’m a fan. The dance lessons, given prior to the show, were great for those of us with no Latin rhythm. I will definitely return.

A friend of mine suggested we go to club sure on the night of «la salsa Rosa». The club is located in SODO Which is pretty far south. We booked a table and when we got there, there were not that many people in there. Now, it was a Friday night and up until 1:00AM when we left, there were not more than 60 people in there. It might have been a slow night. There is free parking, but $ 15 cover regardless of your gender. The cover seems pretty high for a club. But it included a 5-minute salsa dance class, some very basic steps. There is a stage for a band to play. But for the most part, DJ was playing and not the band. The venue is pretty interesting, spacious and inviting; a lot of room for salsa dancing. Choice of music was good. I kinda liked what DJ played better than the band, because the acoustic was not that good and super loud at times. We also ordered dinner and some drinks. I got prawns and it was probably the saltiest food I have ever had in my life. I am pretty sure the chef lost control over how much salt he/she added to the dish, but it was pretty difficult to eat. For a 20-buck dish, it was an ultimate disaster. Having said that, the drinks were okay. Overall, it was an A-okay experience. The venue gets four stars for me. It definitely was not crowded and is more suitable for a romantic couple’s night, not a salsa bar where you can dance with different people. The food was more of a zero star for me. If I go back, it will be just for dancing and definitely not the food.

Came upon this place thru groupon. We have a group of 5 to try and check the place out. At that time they have all the customer dine at where they have the dance floor. The place is pretty big with decent décor and chill ambiance but get ready to dance to columbian music! The food is very good, I had a grilled skirt steak and it was delish! I can’t wait to come back and try the other dishes!

I’ve come here for several private events and, as an venue, this place is alright. It offers a very large space for tables, standing, or even dancing; several cozy, large booths; and a stage. I can’t speak to the price of food as my host covers that, but the quality is so-so. It’s not bad, it’s not good… I don’t know if it’s good enough to be called average. Had I paid for the food I definitely would be complaining though, whatever they’re charging it’s not worth it. Bar service is hit or miss. Sometimes there’s a friendly attentive bartender and other times there’s a cranky bartender who obviously just wants to move you through the line. I’ll keep coming to Club Sur as an attendee, but I wouldn’t book them myself.

If you want to dance all night long to a live band I recommend this place. I would HIGHLY recommend eating before coming here. They advertise their dinner menu but it’s not very good. Food is awful and VERY over priced. We paid $ 17 for a shrimp plate that was over cooked and $ 18 for a steak that was burnt. Drinks were watered down and it was so hot in there that it felt like a sauna.

Went on Friday for Salsa Bachata Night. I was extremely disappointed. The DJ was extremely bad. There was a total of 15 people till 1am and people that looked at how empty it was and left at the entrance. The cover was 10 $ for males and females and the guy at the door just laughed to see if they had anything for veterans.(Not that it’s 4th of July weekend) then laughed again when I asked again if women get in for free. I don’t know if it was just a really slow night but it was a huge disappointment for bachata enthusiast.

Great music and friendly people. I really missed dancing and I was not disappointed with the band. The staff was also friendly and attentive. Will defiantly return and recommend.

Recently hosted my wedding rehearsal dinner here. The staff of Sur was very accommodating to our large group of around 50. We were able to build our own custom menu and food was served buffet style. Everything tasted amazing! This place is a hidden gem!

Went to for Clinton Fearon’s show. The Bartenders were awesome. I let them get creative with my weird requests and they hooked me up:) I love how big the space is so we were able to play some Capoeira. The venue has good acoustics, clean restroom. I will definitely be back.

4 stars for the venue for salsa dancing! Large space, cozy sexy booths, live band, huge bar area. We had a great time as a large group for a birthday party. Was harder to find dance partners then other clubs… seems like everyone was coupled up and didn’t want to share. $ 15 cover seemed a bit high, but it included a lesson. They could consider a different price for those of us not needing a lesson. Decent mixed drinks, not a large wine selection but they had a good smooth red. Although they told us we were drinking Malbec all night and it was a Cab. Warning do not order the food. I give the food 1 star. Everyone talked up the 10oz steak so four of us ordered it and none of us liked it. Meat was over cooked and chewy, no rub or any interesting flavors. Everything that came with it, rice dish & plantains, were so bland! No flavors at all. Overpriced. Very disappointing. I also ordered the $ 8 salad… looked like taco fillings on my plate. Shredded lettuce and onion, a slice of avocado and a slice of tomato. Also no flavor. See pic

We rented the venue for a company product launch party, held 10/24/2014 and overall the evening was a success. The event space is quite spacious, with a large bar, plenty of room for tables and dancing, and a great music stage set-up. The bathrooms are stylish and there is a nice back room set-up for performances, that we were able to open up and use as a coatroom for our party. The owners and managers were very accommodating and responsive during the planning and day of the party. They even opened up and let the party stay on in their restaurant bar as an ad hoc after party past the original event end time! The space has its own ambiance built-in(lighting, décor) that add a lot to the space — great if you are looking for more of a «ready-to-go» party space than one that you have to design out yourself. To this point, Sur offers use of their tables, chairs, tablecloths, dining ware all part of the standard event rental fee — again, good for a «ready-to-go» party. They had a few different options for tables(the fun booths, low tables, high tables), and were willing to set up tables in any configuration I requested. They also have four leather couches in a back area that makes for a nice ad-hoc lounge. Party guests had lots of great comments about the space! As mentioned, the stage and sound system are well set up for music acts — the primary purpose of this event space. We hired a band for the party, so it worked out very well. One thing to note — it’s loud. Even without the amplifiers, the acoustics in the place carry the music! If you are planning an event — such as a party or wedding — where you expect your guests to be talking as much as dancing, this is something to keep in mind and/or work with the owners or your band/DJ to work it out in advance. In the end, it wasn’t a problem for our party — people were having too much fun all around! I read other reviews that talked about the staff service — we didn’t experience any problems. They had the bar well-staff(3 bartenders for a group size of about 160) and about 4 servers floating the room to serve food and clean-up. All staff were nice, unobtrusive and did their job — the job got done without any major complaints. Overall, everyone was accommodating to our party! One general note — but perhaps not to be entirely unexpected given that the events of this venue are primarily music/club events and we were going for a different type of vibe — The service of the waiters less refined than I had anticipated — we had passed small-bites — and some servers walked around and handed them to guests, as I’d requested, while others just set several down on the tables for guests to come by and pick up. The event manager confirmed how service should go the night of(actually as they started to deliver food), but it still was just okay. Some guests didn’t get certain appetizers or food circulated to them, but I also think that happens at a stand-up cocktail party where people are milling around. Another note about service: at the beginning of the night, they asked if they should use glassware or plastic cups. It was a cocktail-to-formal attire, so I went with glassware. They were accommodating and it was not a problem– but surprising to me that this would be a question. So, if you are planning a social event like mine — the note here is to keep this in mind and have those conversations upfront. The food turned out good, but not great. I’ve eaten at the restaurant(I believe under the Unilocal review as Café Con Leche) — and it is really great food! I encourage everyone to go there for lunch or dinner and enjoy their tasty food. Unfortunately, this didn’t translate super well into a catering style menu. Some things were spot on, and others not as great as when they were cooked to order. Our party was only appetizers, so the focus wasn’t on the food and it wasn’t a problem. Of note: the owner encouraged a buffet style set-up when we originally spoke, but that didn’t fit our party-style. I could see that their food might do very well in a buffet style(to stay warm, and meats tender) — so consider that! Overall, I would say that this is an event venue that is very willing to work with their customers to make them happy. I think that goes a very long way. If you are planning an event and are looking for a place that is «ready-to-go» or music focused, take a look here.

My wife and I went with some friends last Friday and we had such a GREAT time! The salsa band and music was so good and we danced all night. What a party atmosphere. Oh, and we ate there and the food was delish. Definitely one of our new go-to places for a fun time.

Since Trago closed we decided to try this place out. It was a Saturday night and a band was playing Latin rock? The only time we were able to dance was between sets and the sound system was bad. The bartender girl was very nice and the service was good. The bartender girl was great and friendly. Would not take a taxi from town for this place again though.

This place gets one star for the half decent décor. The food was mediocre at best. I would consider hosting a party here if it were not for the HORRIBLE customer service. TIP: club Sur, treat every guest as a potential customer. The bald bartender at my friends wedding this weekend was so rude that I would never book this place as a place to bring my Friends and family into.

Beautiful interior, great bands, nice staff. Unfortunately the acoustics are terrible. Please, guys, put up some sound tiles or something. I’d love to return but won’t until the sound quality is improved.

Came here for the Girl4Girl event. I won’t speak of the event, as this review is for the space… The space is super cool, I love the set up, the booths, the bathrooms, everything. The menu was deceitful. It had items worded to be «Argentinian» however it was clearly Italian. We ordered what we thought to be a cool dish to try for first time and it ended up be gnocchi in marinara with Italian sausage. MEH. Lucky for us our super awesome waiter wasn’t going to let us pay for meh. He also was right there to change the table cloth when we got rowdy in our VIP booth and spilled drinks(a few times) and helped us out with our salted rim problem(SALT on a lemon drop? Gross). Hands down this club is getting three stars because of Dave(Merhg??) our waiter. Literally. I sure hope that guy is getting the recognition he deserves…
