Alex is one of the best mechanics I’ve ever met. He’s a very nice guy and doesn’t have a bone of shadiness in him. I never feel like he’s trying to up-​sell anything like I have felt with some previous mechanics. He’ll also take the time to explain things if you want to know more.
I’m only sad that I only have 5 stars to give. How about 6?

I recently move to Seattle and asked a friend to recommend someone and Alex was the only one they suggested.
Very pleased with his attention to my car needs and fixed it in one day along with looking it over, tightened some belts and got me on my way.
Price was great and met another photographer and Alex will get all my business.

The other reviewers are right on… Alex (the owner /​mechanic of Axis Auto) is great. He is helpful, explains things clearly, honest, and an all around nice guy. Very rare in this industry. I’m thankful that I live so close… but I would not hesitate to drive or have my car towed a good distance for the peace of mind that I wasn’t going to be over charged or sold some repair I don’t really need. He is a one man shop, so he might not get to your vehicle immediately but, he is definitely worth the extra time. I would (and do) recommend Axis Automotive to everyone!

I have used Alex as my mechanic for (I think close to) two years now for oil changes and brake replacement so far.
The other reviews don’t lie. Alex is a great mechanic who has been fair and honest with what repairs my Saturn does and does not need. He is super friendly and if you ask questions he takes time to make sure you know what it is he will do to the car, and what he did afterwards. Vehicles are one of my areas where I lack expertise, but I have a great «BS sensor» that has gone off on other mechanics who start trying to talk in circles to get you confused as to what is wrong with your car.

I have known Alex Share, the owner of Axis Automotive, for over a decade. I have followed Alex as he worked with many different shops. Whatever shop Alex was working at, that was the shop I would take my car to, (somewhat akin to following a skillful chef from restaurant to restaurant.)
Alex has a shop of his own now, Axis Automotive. An honest, skilled mechanic is gold! I wouldn’t go anywhere else for maintenance, repairs and service of my vehicles. There may be other shops as good but there are none better.

I can’t think of a way to improve on this trip to the shop. Sure, it’ll get nicer in there (ie the waiting room, bathroom, etc) as he settles in (he’s new to this location), but the customer service was above and beyond. He really went way out of his way to talk in layman’s terms, but also to show me what he was doing and explain everything.
On the phone, before I even went in, I had had a bad phonecall estimate experience with another company (Acme, they were really rude) and told him the same things, and that I was concerned it may be a headlight switch/​relay issue, and that those parts looked about $ 50 online. And he (Alex) straight away, really honestly said, that he does a decent markup on those type of parts. He then explained that it’s because he guarantees all his work and backs it up— and I believe it.
Turns out it was just a fuse. He just popped it out, replaced it, and ballparked a price at me. It was incredibly fair.
I’ll be coming back here with any further issues, and I would highly suggest it to anyone out there who is sick of Neanderthal-​esque yahoos looking down their nose at you for not knowing what an «auxiliary ground» or «trans-​differential» or whatever is.

Alex, the owner of this shop, is the absolute best! Truly, I would highly recommend him to anyone needing work on their car. It is so important to find a car mechanic who you can truly trust is looking out for your best interests, and Alex is one of those rare breeds. Both times we’ve gone to him he saved us a ton of money from unnecessary repairs and parts, and he always gives straightforward advice. If you’re looking for a mechanic in the area, definitely give Alex a try.

I’m not the most active Unilocaler, but today’s visit to Axis Automotive warranted an excellent review.
Alex of Axis automotive came highly recommended to me from a friend. It was time for an oil change so I took my truck to him instead of my usual mechanic, who I’ve also been happy with. I can confidently say that Alex is the only mechanic that I’ll be visiting in Seattle now!
In addition to the oil change I had a couple things that I needed checked on. Les Schwab gave me a couple price quotes and a «recommendation» for having two projects done to my truck, both of which were around $ 1250. Wanting to follow up with this I had Alex double check on what Les Schwab recommended. Alex said neither project was even remotely necessary, thus saving me getting ripped off $ 2500+ by Les Schwab for unnecessary work.
Thank you for being an honest mechanic and taking great care of me! I’d recommend Alex from Axis Automotive to anyone!

Alex Share owner and main mechanic of Axis Automotive was a wonderful person to work with. I took my truck in to have a few issues looked at and felt like I was talking to someone that cared about me and my car. Alex was able to find the issues quickly and recommend both dealer parts and aftermarket products. This gave me the option of saving hundreds of dollars on the repair. Some of the repair work needed he was unable to perform but was able to offer suggestions of another great shop that could help out. It looks like I have found a mechanic I can take my car to from now on.

Alex is amazing — took care of my TSX for a fraction of what the dealer wanted me to pay. He may not have a lounge with donuts or waitresses serving you coffee but he certainly knows his stuff about cars. And since he’s so close to the market street you can just go to the movies or have a coffee just within a minute walking.
Ill be taking both mine and my wife’s acuras to him for as long as I am in seattle.

I can only echo what the other excellent reviews on here state, Alex sits in rarified air amongst auto mechanics, one of the very best anywhere but more importantly, he just is a wonderful human being, really great energy, I know, he’s my neighbor on the block and having his shop in this odd, schizophrenic part of Ballard is just super comforting.

I have never left an auto shop feeling more comfortable and satisfied with the service. About go on a trip that would put 2000 miles on my car, I did not want to take chances knowing a few things were not perfect with my car. Alex explained what was going on with my car, what was pretty important to get fixed and what could wait a bit longer. I ended up getting a transmission flush…
No pressure sales, just clear communications. I appreciate the time Alex took to explain everything to me too!

Oh, and the day before I went in I got a oil change a lube place… Next time I will just go to Axis their prices are competitive and I’d rather give him my money than a corporation that was trying to up-​sale me left and right.

I use Unilocal frequently but never created a login or ever wrote a review for anything, but after my experience with Alex, I was compelled to leave a review. Simply put, all the other reviews with 5 stars are spot on. Friendly, knowledgeable, honest, timely, fair are words not usually associated all together when describing a majority of mechanicals, Alex was all of those. He quickly diagnosed the problem, shared his suggestions, and fixed it promptly. Communication was great throughout the process. I believe he is just getting started on his own after years of experience working elsewhere and I certainly hope and expect his shop to flourish if he continues to provide the fair and great service. As much as I don’t want to ever see a mechanic, there is no doubt he will get my business in the future. Thanks Alex!

There’s a reason why this place has 5 stars across the board. Alex is incredibly knowledgable, honest, courteous, and really just a cool guy to talk to. I’ve had some pretty bad experiences going to the dealership and finally had enough. Went on Unilocal and found this great shop just down the street from my house.
This like the bizarro version of everything I hate about the dealerships. Immediately he made me feel like a part of the process: broke down the situation and took the time to describe all of my options in a way that didn’t make feel like a moron for not speaking mechanic-​ese. I actually understood! And to top it off, his suggestions for the best option were what best fit MY situation, not his! One more thing I appreciate is that he keeps me updated almost in real time. I can tell he takes special care and attention with every vehicle and doesn’t half ass. Finally, he’s just very personable once you’re there in person not like the folks at the dealer who tell you to sit down, read a magazine, and stfu. If you want to know what’s going on, you can expect a quick, courteous response.
As for other intangibles: just look at the photo folks. And if walking to a place that has KEXP playing and a Jimi Hendrix photo hanging on the wall doesn’t reek of awesomeness, I don’t know what does. Like the previous reviewer said, we’re very lucky to have people like Alex doing this kind of work. I say, people like him make the world a better place. But enough hyperbole, give the man a call now!

Alex Share of Axis Automotive is as good as they get — friendly, knowledgeable, fast, humorous, progressive, bright, conversational … (the list goes on)
Looking for a locally-​owned business, I found him through Unilocal; and though the number of reviews was small the quality of reviews was outstanding — 5 stars in EVERY instance!
And besides, who wouldn’t love a Henry-​painted building that sports a pair of pink walruses floating over a mushroom-​strewn landscape?
I needed brake work (more than a simple oil change) and he diagnosed the issue, offered a prompt quote, and identified two other items needing attention that I actually knew were issues but hadn’t thought to mention.
Pricing was reasonable and entirely fair for good work with first-​rate materials (Alex does not go for low-​quality replacement parts, and he took the time to explain in clear prose what the differences are and how this benefitted me). He also got me in and the job completed on the same day that I called (perhaps lucky, since it’s a smaller shop).
Alex is quite sustainability-​minded and understands the importance of a thriving local economy. Though Axis Automotive was itself founded in 2011, Alex has been in the business for 25+ years and it’s always been his dream to have his own shop.
We’re exceedingly fortunate that he now does.

I’m stunned. You don’t get service like this anywhere these days, let alone in a garage. Alex was straightforward, honest, thorough. .. what valuable traits in any business. What really stunned me is that he’s a people-​person. How very strange to find a mechanic with such genuine charm. Alex explained everything he looked over in my routine oil change (and boy, did he ever look it over), and I actually feel like I learned something from my mechanic today, instead of feeling like I’m still in the dark about the intestines of my car.
I have a friend who has been my mechanic for years — how awkward to tell him that he’s been replaced. Reward quality local small businesses — go to Axis for any car problem you have, ever.

My boyfriend and I brought our Jeep Grand Cherokee here to fix a couple issues. We originally took the vehicle to the dealership where we purchased it but after being quoted for nearly $ 1100 to fix all the issues we felt scammed. We actually accidentally stumbled onto Axis Automotive looking for a mechanic open on Saturday. As we took a turn to double back into Ballard we found Axis. The shop seemed slow that day and we met Alex for the first time. He was very friendly and very honest. We told him our situation with the dealership and he quoted us $ 125 to fix the main issue with the vehicle and look into the other issues at no charge. He essentially did a transmission flush with filter replacement. I should note we brought in our own fluids since we wanted to switch everything over to synthetic. This brought down the price of the service.
The dealership told us that we had some leaky transmission lines that they made it sound serious. Alex took a look and assured us that they were minor leaks and could be serviced in the future if we wanted. He also inspected the brakes and looked into a air bag sensor malfunction and gave us options to repair it. He never pressured us into fixing anything and gave us the impression that he really enjoyed working on vehicles. He serviced it the same day we walked in. The experience went very smooth. A very trustworthy mechanic which is incredibly rare in this industry. A true skilled laborer who enjoys his work. We found our go-​to mechanic in the Seattle area! Thank you Alex!

First, when I called Alex he promptly returned my call and I was able to get my car in right away.
When I dropped off the car he patiently went through my long list of issues I wanted him to check out on my ’98 Honda Civic. I also asked for an oil change and full inspection. He didn’t charge for the inspection because I got the oil change.
Alex called when finished and together we reviewed my list, then his inspection list and he provided an explanation of each item on the list. I left with what I felt was an honest and thorough inspection, reasonable quotes for future work (which was less than I expected), and a priority timeline for each repair. He was honest about which repairs were worth fixing and which I should just ignore since I plan to sell the car in 6 – 8 months.
Also, I noticed his shop is clean and tidy. Alex was personable and professional. I’ll definitely be back to take care of a few repairs and future oil changes.

I took in my ’98 Jeep for a tune up before a long road trip and I asked Alex to do a trip check on the car. His inspection was very complete and even included things like checking the spare tire (something I never remember to do), lubing all the suspension fittings and even lubing the door hinges. Those little touches like the door hinges might not seem like much but it made my creaky old Jeep feel nice again. So many places now just want to rush your car out of their shop and Axis doesn’t do that. I really got the feeling of honesty and service from Axis and I will definitely use them and recommend them in the future.

i haven, t known Alex for very long but he has very good ethics with the dealings i have with him he has repaired both my cars now a 1964 Dodge as well as my 2005 Dodge magnum and the service has been excellent and very informative. It is really hard to find anybody with practical skills and can work on cars of all eras. Well worth the money spent. and a very good value in these trying times. Anybody can change parts untill they hit the right part. Alex is about diagnosis and repair .
and a genuine person. he is. If it sound too good to be true It, s because it is.
