Hidden-but-not-so-hidden within the small strip mall east of the Othello Light Rail Station, this deli can satisfy hunger and put a smile on your face. The space: So far, in my experience, if you want to go off of cleanliness, it is perhaps similar to Olive Express in Seatac… but it’s always helpful to look past that for seeking out good food and friendly people. There are basic tables, chairs and perhaps small areas used for side projects/business. They have a flatscreen which I’m told they gladly put the game on. Cool! Olive Express does similar, too. Sorry if I compare it to that place — some places just ring so similar to me and I may do some comparing, hopefully in as best/helpful light as possible. The food: You can order from a full fast-food menu, coffee and [somali] tea(Amin and Othello Halal down the street both use Kenya Ketepa tea). I’ve only asked about chicken suqaar with rice and the warm & friendly older gentleman said it comes as part of the Federation(chicken suqaar, spaghetti noodles and rice — with a side salad and lime)… no ‘chicken suqaar and rice’. Oh well, maybe it’s lost in translation. I enjoy Juba’s chicken suqaar entrees much better. Theirs is less flavorful and all that spaghetti gets bland fast… I usually add seasoning at home(take-out). Great value, though, and quite filling! The sambusas are also tasty. One thing neat is that they’re triangular(like Indian samosas). ‘2D triangles’ tend to be «sambusas» and ‘3D triangles’ tend to be «samosas.» Make sense? =) The tea is nice, too! The staff: Friendly and helpful. Some things may get lost in translation/communication but definitely can have the sense of homey and casual here. My last visit was interesting because this one lady(I’ll call her Darc) apparently loves this place. Darc had a big charming smile and shook at least 2 hands there! =) This place is also listed on the MLK Business Association site(which is both accurate and outdated…) @
