James Iler took down two very large trees on our property during early winter 2015. Both were tricky to take down due to proximity to the house and a barn but James and his crew did an excellent job. The price was very reasonable and both trees were taken down shortly after we accepted his quote. All in all, highly recommended.

I hired James for two jobs since moving into our new house over the summer. Our backyard and front-yard both had large areas filled with dead and dying trees. It was tough to take down so many trees, but they were a potential hazard and also made significant portions of the yard un-usable. We started in the backyard over the summer. James and his crew cleared out a large area where I was able to put up a swing-set for the kids. I also asked about leaving the wood chips to use as a base around the swing-set. Instead of leaving the chips from my trees(which would have been much easier for him), he recommended waiting for wood chips from another job since they were drier and contained less vegetation. His crew did a fantastic job clearing the trees and grinding the stumps. Two days later he personally delivered the wood chips into the corner of my driveway. For the second job he removed a bunch of trees from an area of the yard which was a complete wasteland. Several of the trees were dying and roots were exposed out of the ground all over the place. We could not grow any grass and it was a complete mess. Once again, James and his crew did an outstanding job. They completed the job 1 week ahead of schedule and for a price that was much lower than his competition. Upon my request, they also chopped up several of the trees into 18 inch logs which I can use for firewood next year. The logs were all neatly stacked on the side my yard. I highly recommend using Mr. Iler for any tree removal or pruning jobs. The prices and quality of his work are both outstanding.

Iler did the work he said he would and more, got the job done quickly, nobody fell or got hurt or dropped a tree trunk on our house. We were happy with the quality and the work and the competitive price. Stumps were nicely ground down. We needed 3 trees taken down and for that it’s easy to compare quotes. We also needed dead-dying-dangerous limbs cut back from the many small and large trees in our yard and there it’s hard to pin down one quote vs. another for comparability. That said, Iler was one of several competitive quotes and we went with him because we’d used him years ago and because somebody else well recommended, who was slightly cheaper, returned one call about giving a final quote and then never, ever came out despite four follow-ups.(Four months after Hurricane Sandy, I thought most tree services were caught up.) If you’re looking for the best price(that’s us), call in the fall and say you’d like to do work over the winter when they’ve got time. Get a rough quote in the fall, fine tune it, and work out a mutually acceptable date. In early February, Iler said he could work it in before the end of the month and actually came about a week after we agreed to work together. We also got good, fatherly advice about a gorgeous yew that had to come down b/c of storm damage. If in the tree’s 15 years of life, we’d had it trimmed back a couple times, it wouldn’t have overshadowed the house and it would likely not have been hurt by ice storms.
