Stopped on our ride home from skiing in Mont Tremblant, needed a bathroom for the kids stat! Pleasantly surprised. Neat as a pin, pleasant and courteous service and well done simple country cooking. Burgers, BBQ chicken, pulled pork and nice sides. Coleslaw, sweet potato fries etc. Able to get a baked potato in the middle of the day which was nice. Bbq sauce is homemade and good. Not super spicy or tangy but fresh and nicely done. Soups were flavorful and had fresh vegetables. The bbq half chicken was a little dry but still tasty. Herbal tea was available. We tried the peanut butter pie based on the other reviews and it was to die for! It is not really my kind of dessert but it was light and delicious. Almost a mousse texture. All in all a pleasant experience for road trip lunch off the highway. Especially if you don’t eat fast food!

Great spot for a classic american breakfast, with north country charm. Lunch and Dinner menu is nothing special. Prices are always reasonable though.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch while on vacation. Very quaint restaurant and friendly service. The lunch itself was about average; nothing stood out as anything that would make me come back. That is until we shared a piece of the home made coconut custard pie; OMG was that good. Easily the best pie I have ever eaten. Had I known I would have skipped my sandwich and eaten pie for lunch. Thank God I don’t live nearby; I’d weigh 500 lbs. if I did.

Home cooked, down to earth, friendly delightful place. I’m a vegetarian and had plenty of options. I was in the town 6 days and had 6 meals there! This diner style cooking. The breakfasts are the best! I worked there 45 years ago. If you are in Schroon Lake, make sure you eat at this family place.

Ordinary diner. We got the BBQ half chicken, with sides of broccoli cheddar soup, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, and baked potato, as well as tea and a slice of peanut butter pie for desert. The chicken was overcooked, but not horrendous. The BBQ sauce was good as the reviews suggested, but it didn’t sink into the chicken, just on the skin :/Tossed salad and baked potato nothing special. Mashed potatoes were good and gravy was good. Broccoli cheddar soup was fantastic though! The reviews didn’t joke about the peanut butter pie, I could’ve easily eaten an entire pie of that(and kind of wished I did instead of the rest of the ordinary food). Price average for the area, though generally more than the quality is worth. Service was eh, waitress didn’t really give us refills or ask how we were doing… Food came out surprisingly very fast, but given the quality, it makes sense in hindsight. I’d highly recommend this place for desert, maybe even soup, but not really anything else.

I’ve been to Pitkin’s a number of times between 2010 and now. I went there originally for the amazing pie(and that’s really the reason I come back). Also, you can expect greasy American cuisine with a laid back atmosphere and waiters(and waitresses). The only downside is that they don’t have any vegetarian food aside from the grilled cheese and curly fries.

Yum! We tried pulled pork reuben, BBQ pulled pork sandwich, cream potato soup, and peanut butter pie. Cream potato soup was just that… Creamy and potatoe-y and not salty like most soups. It was light and delicious! The pulled pork reuben and BBQ pulled pork sandwich(definitely a big fan of BBQ!) were great. I’d say they were comparable to Texas BBQ. They weren’t too saucy, but still flavorful. Side BBQ was also served. Ended off with peanut butter pie! It was creamy and light. Service was also great! The waitresses were friendly and funny.

This is my new fave pitstop when driving between NYC and Montréal! Everything is made fresh in house. Been twice two years apart and had the same waitress. My friend is a food snob and he looks forward to out Pitkins stop. Really great pie!

Great sandwiches and BBQ, solid coffee and kind service. Would recommend! Wish we had room for a slice of pie. Try the bacon club or pulled chicken plate.

My favorite is the fried fish, either as a sandwich or platter. The tartar sauce is homemade, and they should bottle it. Mashed potatoes are great– good consistency like they are made from real potatoes with lots of flavor. The coleslaw also rates at the top of any scale. I have been a regular here for 12 years now.

Super friendly service. Straight up diner atmosphere. GREATBBQ. Pulled pork BBQ Reuben. The briscut is a little dry but that’s what BBQ sauce is for. And they have good homemade sauce! You don’t have many options if you are in this town and this is a good one in spite of the underwhelming appearance.

This is a wonderful, down home, old fashioned home-cooking restaurant! I had their pulled pork reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries… the sandwich was surprisingly good and the fries were quite possibly the best sweet potato fries i’ve ever had… of course with the raspberry type dipping sauce they came with. Others with me also had a great lunch, clubhouse was huge and they use real turkey… not processed! All in all a really great spot and the servers were extremely friendly.

I find Pitkin’s dinners to be average, but their breakfasts are excellent. Service is prompt, everyone is pleasant, and the walls are adorned with local paintings and photos dating from at least back to the 1940s.

My family owned a second home on Schroon Lake for nearly 20 years. As children, my father used to always taunt us by saying that he was going to take us to Pitkin’s if we didn’t behave ourselves. Why? I have no idea, but that was one of his odd things I suppose. Being that we were pretty well behaved kids, we very rarely ate at Pitkin’s during all of those years and it always had a very negative association in my mind. Recently however, I returned to Schroon Lake for the first time in 7 years and for the first time as a true adult. My fiancé and I decided to give Pitkin’s a try at the strong recommendation of my father(yep, don’t ask). We shared both the BBQ beef and pulled pork sandwiches and topped the meal off with the homemade peanut butter pie. This is definitely the kind of place that would be featured on that show Diners Drive-Ins and Dives and fall under the diner but also dive category. The combination of the old looking furniture, somewhat random décor, and geriatric clientele doesn’t leave one hopeful upon entry. However, the service is very attentive and clearly well organized, everyone extremely friendly, and the food quite delish. Is this the best BBQ that I’ve ever had in my life, no. I think that an upgrade to the bun would definitely kick the sandwiches up a notch. But that being said, both the beef and the pork were very tasty. I enjoyed the BBQ sauce which I found to be basic, but good. What also stood out were the fries and the coleslaw. The fries were very fresh and extremely crispy and flavorful and the coleslaw was chopped very nicely and had a great sweet flavor. The real winner though was the peanut butter pie. It tasted like a Reese’s peanut butter cup but way bigger and fluffier. For a peanut butter lover, absolutely amazing. Overall, we had a very positive experience and after all of these years, I can gladly say that I’d quite willingly go back to Pitkin’s again.

Been coming here since 1995. Always good for a quick meal or sandwich. The deserts are excellent. The service is quick and friendly and the owner Marie is always accommodating. I always enjoy the breakfast menu. In the summer it can be very crowded, so come early.

Pitkin’s has been around for more than 100 years, starting out as a family business. They specialize in Texas-style BBQ and even sell their own sauce for the home enthusiast. This is exactly the kind of place you want to seek out when you travel. Or at least it appears to be. In all actuality, one would do best to AVOID this place all together. The aforementioned hallmarks take on a different sheen upon closer inspection. For example, even though they specialize in Texas BBQ, there was no mention of brisket on the menu. I opted for the spare ribs with their house BBQ sauce along with a side of baked beans, corn, and fries. The ribs were disappointing. The sauce was terrible, tasting really only of vinegar. The meat was not as tender as I would have liked either. The fries were clearly bagged, frozen fries prepared for the occasion. Is it really that hard to slice a potato? The vegetable sides were equally dreadful. That was definitely a miss in the case of the baked beans. Great BBQ spots usually pride themselves in the quality of their beans. The ambience is that of a small diner, and the service was haphazard, though friendly. My girlfriend’s choice of dinner was actually worse than mine, and she was unable to eat any of her entrée. Our final server noticed this and insisted that half the price of her entrée be taken off the bill. This was a very nice, unexpected gesture. Overall though, I was just disappointed with all of the shortcuts that the cook took. With a little bit of work, the food could have been so, so much better.
