Standard Perry’s-and-Softserv ice cream stand with hot junk food grill on the inside, notable for a few things: quirky outdoor décor, there’s a small indoor seating area to get out of the weather(with a TV), and friendlier service than, say, Bumpy’s. Water ice but very few popsicles other than the character-themed ones(Spongebob, Spiderman, etc.) Pleasant enough and clearly a cool neighborhood hang out, but with the frozen treats being utterly identical to most other ice cream joints, there’s no differentiator here to make you go out of the way for it.

A great way to end an epic meal. A 32 oz Sundae for $ 6.50! Awesome ice cream.

After a very hot day, it began pouring rain outside as I was driving through Rotterdam. It was the perfect time to go out for some ice cream since no one goes out in a rainstorm. I made a pitstop at The Big Scoop, which is a seasonal ice cream stand open during the warmer months. There are outside takeout windows with colorful picnic tables nearby and casual inside dining room seating with menus at the tables. The Big Scoop offers soft serve and Edy’s hard ice cream including cones, cups, sundaes, flurrys, shakes, flavor burst, and smoothies. Besides ice cream, half pound burgers, hot dogs, Philly steak, sausage & peppers, wings, and basket meals(comes with fries or onion rings) are served. Some cool stuff they offer are fried dough sundaes, frozen hot chocolate, and blended ice coffees. The ice cream prices here are pretty reasonable including the ice cream cones(soft/hard): Baby($ 1.25/$ 1.50), Small($ 1.75/$ 2.25), Medium($ 2.00/$ 2.50), Large($ 2.50/$ 3.00), and Waffle($ 3.25/$ 3.50), prices in 2009. I enjoyed my Brownie Sundae, a chewy brownie topped with vanilla soft serve, lots of hot fudge, nuts, whipped cream, and cherry outside in the rain. All I can say is that my life is pretty plain, I like watching the puddles gather rain. But it’s not sane… Blind Melon comes to mind on lazy warm rainy days. Anyways, the best part was: no lines, a cold refreshing treat at a reasonable price, and the cool rain. HOURS: Sun-Thurs: 12PM-10PM; Fri-Sat: 11:30AM-12AM
