Great experience! Had the chance to try a new place. The desserts are amazing! They have a wide variety of menu items. The service was very good. Can’t wait to try more things!

Ordered a drink from the bar, something from the libations menu, this cherry drink. Don’t order it. It was horrendous. I had about 6 other people try it, they agreed. It tasted like cough syrup and actually made me nauseous. Very, very bad. Appetizers were decent, the bacon, meat and cheese board, calamari, grilled octopus. We also had mussels, which I can’t eat due to allergies. But the group said they were good. I figured since the steak is the main attraction here, I’d get it. It supposed to be made with pink Himalayan salt and dry aged. I got the most expensive cut, the ribeye. It was flavorless and I couldn’t tell the difference between that piece and one Id grill myself, except that I make a better one. For dessert we got the special, which was a whiskey scented crème brûlée. It was inedible. The caramelized crust was burnt to a crisp. The custard portion was bland and gross. I have one star for the service. Our bartender and server were wonderful. But the food was horrid. Definitely will not go back.

Restaurant week is a great time to find new places. And I’m so glad we found this place. I’m not one to give out five stars very lightly, but this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Jesus, our server, was attentive and great at making suggestions. From the wedge salad(bacon and blue cheese) to the grillhouse burger with pink sea salt crust to the banana mousse desert with candied walnuts, everything was perfect. We’ll be back.

I met up with a friend and was really excited for the restaurant week menu. We shared our meals so I was able to try twice as many foods. I ordered the corn soup, seared scallops and sundae. All of them were really good and flavorful. The seared scallops were on a lobster risotto. I usually don’t like risotto because it makes me feel heavy and gross, but this one was so delicious. It was the right amount of thickness. I also have never bought seared scallops from a restaurant. Those were like butter to me. It was very smooth tasting. I loved our server too. He was very active and animated. I like people who come PDF like they are happy to be there.

Let me start by saying — I didn’t order the steak — so if you’d like to completely bypass my review right now, I don’t think it would be unjust. My co-workers and I went to Grillhouse by David Burke during restaurant week to give them a go. Their $ 20 menu is cheaper than the standard $ 22 restaurant week menus so there off to a good start, You could pick a starter, entrée and dessert from select items on their menu. I wish the starters included things other than salad & soup — like perhaps if I could sub a veggie side which is a lower price than these items. ‘Twas sad for me but alas, I survived and nothing to knock the restaurant on. Our busser was on top of his ish refilling our waters constantly and always clearing things quickly. Our server was just fine though a bit awkward… and she rolled the R in espresso making it sound a bit more fancy than it was. I started with their kale salad which was glistening with some type of oil so it sure looked pretty & colorful. I’m not big on salads but if one were, I’m sure they would have liked this big ol’ thing. It had huge beets and blood oranges in it. I just realized it had no goat cheese as the description mentioned.weird. But it was huge! The salmon was grilled perfectly and probably about 6 ozs. It was over a bed of spaghetti squash and romesco sauce with just the right amount of kick. Beautifully plated it had some asparagus and basil oil surrounding the main dish. I liked the dish and found it to be a great healthy alternative at DB’s if you’re trying to eat a bit more lightly. The desserts at David Burke’s Grillhouse are huge, indulgent and amazing! Don’t skip the desserts even if your belly is full. For a business lunch that can be written off, DB’s is a good option in Schaumburg. It’s a bit pricey but the food is great and the atmosphere is sophisticated yet casual.

Our first dining experience was quite a disappointment. The French onion soup arrived after the burgers, and after two reminders to the server. My medium rare burger was served medium well. Service was painfully slow and lackluster. Charges for my burger were removed from the bill and we were each offered a complimentary glass of wine. Thank you for that. We will not, however, be returning. Quality of meat did not meet expectations. If you want a really outstanding burger, try the Angus beef at Chessie’s in Barrington… and only $ 5 on Tuesdays.

Yum in the neighborhood ! I brought my friend Sara here for her birthday and it was a hit. We had the angry calamari and the cheese plate as appetizers. They were both really good and good portion sizes for sharing. For our entrees, I got the scallops and she got the short ribs and we agreed to share. The scallops were large and moist and expertly seasoned. The short ribs were so tender and flavorful! The server comped her a Tiramisu upon learning it was her bday. It’s not my thing but she really enjoyed it. I ordered the cheesecake lollipops which seemed more like lollipops than cheesecake so not my favorite. Overall it was a great experience. This is a large space with a lively atmosphere. I hope it thrives!

The service was mediocre to bad. Food was just average. Staff not concerned. It was like they didn’t care we were here. I asked for a wedding brochure and the manager said he would bring it right over– never saw him again. That’s money lost right off the bat! Very disappointed. I will never come back again. Don’t waste your money. Sorry but I enjoy dinning out and this was not a great experience. The restaurant is gorgeous but that’s it! Looks aren’t everything apparently :/

I was really, really excited to try this place because of the whole dried age steak with Himalayan salt thing. And of course, I read a number of the Unilocal reviews and I should have known better. We also went on New Year’s Eve and that in itself was a terrible idea. And I forgive them for that because I know how crazy it gets. First, we had seats in the lounge area… for 6 people but we made RSVPs for that so we didn’t really have to wait. But then it took them forever just to give us bread(I understand its busy blah blah blah) but dannng DB those bread were so hard I could have knocked someone out with those! Or break my teeth! But the butter and pickled stuff were nice, I guess. Angry calamari: more like sweet calamari *insert eye rolling emoji* I mean when you see something pertaining to food that says«angry» you probably, most likely ASSUME its spicy? Or is that just me? But yea, definitely not spicy. The sauce was more tangy, sweet. The calamari had a nice crunch to it. Overall, 2⁄5 I guess if I had to rate it. 18 oz bone in ribeye: I was sad. So sad. You guys had no idea how much I was looking forward to this piece of steak. And part of me said«those Unilocal reviews were probably just a fluke and mine will be DABOMB.» No, they were indeed correct. The steak arrived with great colors and cooked to my likings. But dang, it was not tender at all. The flavor mostly came from the sauce. Like WHAT?! I should not need to dip my meat in no sauce if its going to cost me over $ 40. But the sauce made it better, otherwise it would have been torture. Striped sea bass: I believe this was a special for their NYE menu. The first time we got, it was under cooked. Like it was more of a seared… without the sear. And that’s not how it was supposed to be done. Then it was sent back… to have it completely OVERCOOKED. I think they were scared they were going to undercook it so they had to make sure. Then they just failed completely. I’m not sure what else I can recall of that dish because that’s how insignificant in flavors, pizzzaz or anything it had because being cooked incorrectly… Twice. Sides: we got the asparagus, as well as the Mac and cheese. The asparagus were overly salty. I think I had like 4 or so glasses of water. The Mac and cheese though, that was good. It wasn’t too creamy or over powering. Whatever cheese they used, I liked it. I probably should tried primehouse first and not grillhouse :(

GRILLHOUSE by David Burke –Schaumburg, Ill — 1÷17÷2016 If a truly spectacular dining experience is what you are after, look no further…, THIS is your place! As I arrive at the restaurant, I am taken by the sheer enormity and style of the building… On the outside, it’s merely a prep for what will soon ensue… The young lady at the hostess station was extremely friendly and welcoming and immediately escorted me to my table in the dining room. The inside, not unlike the outside, is an architectural masterpiece beautifully decorated. A tasteful mix of stone, dark woods, ornate lighting and beautifully set tables dressed in white linen… My kind of place! My server Jory was an absolute delight. She was personable, knew the menu inside out, sideways and backwards and was right on with her recommendations. The first such recommendation was the BBQ Maple Bacon… Apple smoked, black pepper and mustard oil… That’s the first shift info Foodie Nirvana… The bread, crafted points with a perfectly cut slice of house butter and some blend of pickled cauliflower, peppers, both red and green green And fennel… I knew right at this point there was no turning back… Wanting to enjoy a well rounded meal but not over eat, they made a half order of the Kale Salad… Beet, goat cheese, fennel and blood orange… What a wonderful combination of flavours and textures all ornately plated and presented… When you mix food in this way, it puts your senses in a state of euphoria as the crunchiness together with the different flavours that compliment each other touch every part of your palate preparing you for the next course… For the main event Jory recommended the Beef Short Rib… Starting with an impeccable cut of meat that unlike traditionally fatty Short Rib, this was a prime cut high on flavour, low on fat… Just enough to bring out the essence of the beef… Although you are presented with a steak knife, it’s hardly necessary as it cuts like«buttah» with a fork… It was probably the best Short Ribs I’ve ever had and mind you I’ve had some really good! For dessert… Three delightful cheesecake pops with fresh cream and raspberries… Absolutely delicious! Add to that a perfectly crafted cappuccino both in body and taste and you will enjoy a great meal… After dinner Chef Rhea Brown came out… This man is a Rembrandt in the kitchen! His passion for the foods he prepares and the dining experience they provide was amazing. Had it not been for my driver waiting outside, we could have talked fine dining all night long! Thank you for not only meeting my expectations but far exceeding them. You can bet the next time I come To the Chicago area, this will be my first stop. Add this restaurant to your list of «must dine ins»… You will love it!

I’ve been dying to try this place since it’s opened and finally had the opportunity to go. David Burke, way to let me down. Love this location ever since it was Entourage. The décor still very reminiscent of the original restaurant with some added farm pictures and pigs. Service was a 4 out of 5. Our server was attentive and nice, but we were the only table there. The dock was for the hostess who barely greeted us and lacked any emotion or personality. Appetizers or as they call them«Shares» or «Starters» were the only saving grace of the meal. Mussels: Creamy tomato sauce that was rich and vibrant. Mussels were pretty fresh, though there were pieces that were missing the meat. Bacon: Thick cut, rich and sweet. Grilled Octopus: Tender with an interesting mix of capers and chickpea The Mains is where is all goes downhill. I don’t know if their head chef left or what happened but everything was mediocre. But being the only table there and for the price, the entrees did NOT meet my expectations. Grilled Swordfish: You could tell the fish was old, it was dry and lacked flavor. It left a slight bitterness in your mouth as you ate it. But the worst part of this dish was the weird combination of vegetables. There was no distinct flavor to the mesh of vegetables and it was salty and sour and just didn’t work at all. Still cringing at that terrible tomato that I forced myself to eat. Short Ribs: Nothing spectacular. Sauce lacked flavor. The amount of truffle mousse they give you is laughable and tasted more of butter than anything. Burger: You can get better fries at McDonalds. The Steaks: Supposedly their trademarked item. The cut was great and the quality was suburb. But how they cooked it was a shame– there was no flavor, no juice, and no crust. Special of the evening: Scallop with Lobster Risotto. It should be called Scallops with a side of Salt. Scallops were tender, if not under-cooked. Out of the 2 orders we had only 2 scallops actually had a good sear. But the risotto– why why why! The absolute saltiest thing I have ever had. We were all chugging water throughout the dinner and rest of the evening. Dessert: Coconut cake: Meh, but I’m impartial to coconut Chocolate State of Mind: No whisky or any notes of alcohol tasted. Might as well get cake from Portillos. Overall this place boasts a «farm to table» styled menu, but they didn’t offer a seasonal menu. The quality of ingredients is superior, but unfortunately the kitchen needs to be retaught how to treat those ingredients and go back to the basics. I’d stay away and save your money.

Had the family babysitting the little one, and had a chance for a nice quiet dinner with my wife. Made a reservation for 2 for a Sunday night(probably didn’t need them though, as many seats were available). . Appetizers: *BBQ Maple Bacon(apple smoked, black pepper, mustard oil): really thick strips, very flavorful and filling. If you are looking for thin & crispy, this is not for you. If you are a bacon fan, you will be happy. . *French Onion Soup(gruyère/swiss/parmesan): nothing special, a little too salty for my taste. Average. . Entrees: *I got the surf & turf special with lobster tail & a 10oz filet. The filet was amazing. Tender, flavorful, & spot on. Devoured and gone in record time. My wife got one of the dry-aged strips, she seemed happy with, i’ll have to get her review and can update later. . Dessert: *Chocolate State of Mind: whiskey cake /chocolate custard /orange pistachio brittle /malted whipped cream. AMAZING. A must order. Everything from the brittle, taste/texture of the cake/custard combo to the malted whipped cream was fantastic. Perfect way to end our meal. . *Cotton Candy: for free, which was a nice treat, and made us get nostalgic for a few minutes while snacking on pure sugar. . Service: excellent from start to finish. Waiter and staff refilled water/drinks without needing prompts, checked in on us several times but without hovering too much. . Décor: very nicely done. Definitely provides a romantic ambiance for a date night dinner. Not sure if I was a fan of the table cloths, it was some type of rubber/pleathery looking covers, rather than standard table cloths(which would be simpler and classier looking in my opinion). That’s being picky… but, hey, you are paying for ambiance as much as you are for the food when you come to some place like this. . Price: Ouch, a bit Pricey. Without even getting alcohol, bill was somewhere around $ 145(before tip). That’s a little steeper than I’d like to see for a suburb steakhouse. But, what can you expect when eating at a nice steakhouse. Would definitely come back. Nice to have another steakhouse option besides wildfire, flemings, etc in the suburbs.

My wife and I were excited to ditch the kids and finally try the restaurant that inhabits the place formerly known as Entourage. We’d heard a lot of great reviews about David Burke’s other restaurants and mixed reviews of this Grillhouse so we decided to give it a try. We were there on the evening of Tuesday 12⁄22 at 6:30. It was dead. When I say dead, I mean there was us and one other table in the dining room, although the bar seemed lively. We considered skipping the dining room and going to the bar to eat, but decided to give it a shot. We were seated and given water and a tray of bread and picked vegetables. I had some of the veggies and OMGONION. Not exactly the flavor you want your breath to smell like on a date, so I skipped eating any more. We both ordered a Kettle One martini, slightly dirty, with blue cheese olives. What we were served was a gassy martini, not even slightly chilled, with absolutely no olive juice. It tasted like pure alcohol. We’re big martini fans and know a thing or two about a good one. This was NOT a good martini. STARTER: Cheese board. Not very impressive for $ 14. Three small portions of cheese that were not explained, a fig, quince, honey and balsamic. The cheeses weren’t especially impressive. We ordered our meals: lobster bisque for both of us. She ordered the kale salad, I ordered the mussels. BISQUE: One of the most disappointing soups I’ve ever had. It starts off with a table-side presentation of a bowl with some unexplained things in it. They then pour the soup from a container into the bowl. It was thin, unattractive in color, lacking in flavor, and contained almost no lobster chunks. I’m used to getting a claw or some other nice chunk of lobster and a cream sherry float. Instead, this was full of apples. Like, a LOT of apples. I would call it more of an apple soup than lobster bisque. There was also some unexplained clump which I had to ask about. It’s a shrimp wonton I was told, cut it and eat it. The wonton was terribly gummy and the shrimp was tiny. So, in my lobster bisque, I’m getting sour granny smith apples in every bite, this unappealing shrimp wonton, and the smallest, faintest traces of lobster. I didn’t finish my soup. It was not good, there were no crackers served with it and, despite being the only table eating, my waitress was no where to be seen for me to request fresh pepper or hot sauce. We then asked about ordering a bottle of wine and were presented the wine list. For a place that serves many seafood dishes, the white wine list was really lacking. Half of it was chardonnay, only one wine of red or white below $ 50. The wine list had no descriptions or suggested pairings. I asked about a selection and she had never tried it and couldn’t explain it. She suggested I order a «kinda pink» wine. I’m sorry, but I don’t take blush seriously, especially for $ 56. Maybe this works well in the dorms, but when I’m spending $ 50 – 60 for wine I’d at least like someone who can help me with a selection. MEAL: I enjoyed my mussels. They were plump, fresh, well cooked in a spicy red sauce with some toasted bread. It was an ample serving for $ 14. My wife did not enjoy her kale salad. She said the dressing wasn’t very good and was heavy. She had shrimp added and ate those and some of the veggies on the side that had less of the dressing. Will not return. Our bill was $ 148 before tip. The wine was merely«eh», but I ordered it blindly because we do not like buttery chardonnay, which dominated the menu. The martini’s were just plain horrible.

Ok, so obviously everything is better when someone else pays for it. But, legitimately, everything was really great here. I came here for a holiday party for my job, and everything was up to par. I was told by the party planner that everyone was very accommodating. Service was great the entire time(I saw numerous waiters, plus managers/event planners come in throughout the lunch). The food is SO good! We had a variety of appetizers(cheese/crackers, fruit, veggies/dip), a nice salad, a choice between 4 entrees(I chose the filet), and a choice between two desserts. Everyone loved what they ordered. The filet was perfectly cooked, and came with a great sauce, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus. I also had the chocolate cake. Everything was fantastic. The portions were perfect, but I loved it so much I could have ate more. The atmosphere is nice too. The restrooms are very private, there is running water right by the entrance, wood flooring, private rooms/bar upstairs, etc. I also had a glass of Cabernet that was wonderful as well. Steakhouses are not cheap, and I know this one is not either. However, the food and service, from what I experienced, is every good here.

Amazing décor and hostess staff, they really make you feel at home the minute you walk through the door. We started at the bar for a few drinks. The bar has a strange set up and is very very deep so it was actually difficult for our short bartender to serve us. She did a fantastic job and the drinks were poured well if you know what I mean. We were offered some French baguettes to tide us over while we waited for the rest of our dinner party. We were seated in a large booth which was great for two couples. The waiter was a very interesting fellow. He kept saying he was going to have his assistant grab that for him and his assistant grab this for him. I prefer one a server handles everything themselves. The food service timing was excellent and the portion size was amazing. We actually even made a little room for dessert and were able to order a cupcake pop tree. I highly recommend it. We will definitely return.

Food good but not great. As The Grill goes for the same pricing level it must hold its own in that $ category. It is not the Palm Restaurant or even Capital Grill, though they go for the same level of pricing. Go to The Palm, Mortons or Gibson’s for a great New York strip. Service scale: is good to just ok. Nothing special. I have a pet peeve when the food arrives… I really hate it when the server holds up the food plate and says«who had the??? whatever» and plops it down in front of you after you have to raise your hand to claim your food. Only to repeat it with each successive dish they present. This is NEVER fine dining. Atmosphere: I must say the décor is really nice. Looks like a very nice bar. Cost: $ 200 with tip for three diners only drinking water.

Imagine if you will, an adventurous woman searching the mean streets of Schaumburg in the desperate hope of uncovering a foodie gem. Using the greatest weapon in her artillery, she seeks out the Unilocal app, combing through reviews, restaurant after restaurant earnestly searching for the«one.» On the final night of her trip to this quant suburb, she pauses on a restaurant that appeared in every search she queried. At present she hadn’t turned her eyes toward the establishment as the star rating was lower than desired. As she quickly scanned the business page, key phrases from recent reviewers grabbed her attention, slowing down the flick of her finger as it grazed the touch screen. «Well, well. What do we have here?» she wondered as excitement built in her chest. As she grabbed her keys and walked to the car, she knew one thing. Her evening destination was finally selected. ________________END SCENE_________________ Yes, yes, I know that was dramatic but an experience like this deserves a Hollywood beginning because I certainly received superstar treatment at the Grillhouse. My server was Josh and he provided impeccable service. He started our journey with a compliment that was genuine and heartfelt and left me feeling instantly connected. He never rushed me, and in fact when I began to rush through my selections, he slowed me down so that he could fully explain all my options. We flowed together from appetizer to dessert in what can only be described as a dinner experience of symmetry. I selected the maple bacon for my ‘tizer and honestly, for one person this could easily be paired with a salad or a few sides to become an entrée. Cooked to perfection, each bite made me question every other serving of bacon I’ve had. I’m talking about rich, thick bacon with a beautiful glaze. Baguettes, butter, and — what’s that fancy word for the vegetables in marinade served with bread and butter — yeah that — was served as well. I was pleasantly surprised that the butter was served near room temperature. I simply deplore hard, cold, butter for my bread. No worries here! My entrée for the evening was the scallops. Cooked to a gorgeous golden brown color, each scallop melted in my mouth. The accompanying vegetables are nice, but not really part of the party so if you want a full vegetable serving, I would recommend adding a side dish of something yummy. The grand finale — chocolate cake. To know me is to know I rarely ever order desserts when I eat out. I made an exception tonight and am so glad I did! What caught my eye about this dessert was one critical ingredient — whiskey. Yeah that’s right, whiskey cake. It’s delicious — moist and fluffy. The caramel sauce on the side — dear lawd! Talk about the perfect bite each time with the whipped cream on top and chocolate mousse in the midde! _______FINAL SCENE ____________________ As the sun begin to set, the demands of the outside world decided to intrude into the magic of the night. «I guess all good things come to an end» our fair lady sighs with a slight smile as the buzzing from a nearby phone filled the air. As she began to stand, she looked around the room, feeling content. The walls, filled with pictures of local farmers in their crop, endeared the Grillhouse to her more and more. As she walked to the exit, a very nice gentleman beams at her and says«it’s nice to see you!» She smiles politely and responses in kind, «it’s very nice to see you too.» Reaching to push the door open, she chances a quick glance behind her stunned that this lovely place doesn’t have a 4 or better star restaurant, determining within herself to join the list of supporters for a superb establishment.

Ok not really sure why this place has recently gotten low reviews! We made reservations for Restaurant Week… the menu looked awesome, but also very approachable. When we walked it, the host greeted us and led us to our table right away. We were greeted very promptly with water filled, and the server was awesome at giving suggestions on what to try. The food, overall, was AMAZING! Everything came out in perfect time(not too fast and not too slow), temps were great, and it was an overall awesome experience! BBQ Maple Bacon — this is listed as «table shares», but there’s NOWAY I’d share this one! Thick cut apple smoked bacon, a bbq glaze(think more of a marmalade than a bbq sauce), and it was atop a bed of thinly sliced granny smith apples. If you’re a sweet/savory person, this hits the spot! Farmer’s Onion Soup — hubby had the farmer’s onion soup, which is their version of a french onion soup. I didn’t have a taste(not a fan of french onion soup), but he said it was a good balance of cheese and salt. Roasted Duck Breast — I’ve never had duck before, so I really don’t have much to compare it to, however, it being restaurant week, I wanted to try something different! I knew that duck was a little more gamy than other meats. I was very surprised to find out that it had the same texture and mouth feel as pork! The cook was perfect(chef suggested medium rare) and the skin was so crispy! The duck laid on a dark pomegranate molasses sauce that complimented it well. It came with a side of roasted carrots and a corn/spaetzel/pomegranate seeds mixture that was to die for! It was a HUGE fan! Grillhouse Burger — hubby had the Grillhouse burger and it was cooked to perfection! He asked for it medium rare, and it came out nice and warm pink/red throughout. I only had a bite, but that bite was awesome! There was a lot of flavor in the patty, it was THICK(probably an inch to 1.5 in thick!), cheddar, steak sauce and fries, with a side of spicy mayo for dipping. Mac and Cheese Side — of COURSE we had to order a mac and cheese side :) It was perfect for sharing, a good amount of cheese without being too cheesy, and a nice, crunchy panko bread toping. Dark and Stormy — nothing different about this drink staple. It was mixed well and had a good balance of flavor. I’ve had dark and stormys that were way too sweet, but this one was a good balance. Cotton Candy — not sure if this was because of restaurant week, but each table got a complimentary cloud of cotton candy! Again, nothing special, except for the fact that everyone smiles when you get a big pink cloud brought to your table for free! Butterscotch panna cotta — I’ve been on a panna cotta kick lately! It’s so light and refreshing, and right now my perfect dessert! When I saw they had a butterscotch panna cotta on the menu, I jumped on it! Unlike most other panna cottas that are topped with fruit and stay on the natural sweet side, this was dessert sweet, with a thick layer of chocolate curry gelee. I really didn’t taste a curry flavor in this, but more of a caramel sweetness. The panna cotta was served a martini glass that was swirled with caramel sauce. The dessert was accompanied with meringue sticks THATHADBLACKPEPPERONTHEM! This was the linchpin of the dessert because the subtle spice of the black pepper really cut into the sweetness of the rest of the dessert and gave it a balance. Chocolate State of Mind — if you’re a chocolate fan, you’ll like the chocolate state of mind. I’m more of a cream-based dessert fan, so I can only appreciate this dessert for what it was. The chocolate custard was thick and rich… very decadent and chocolatey. The whiskey cake was moist, and not too boozy at all, and the malted whipped cream gave a nice cut into the dark chocolate. I didn’t have the pistachio brittle because I’m allergic to peanuts and we couldn’t remember if it was a peanut brittle or another nut, but hubby said it was really good. Would we go back on a regular night for the regular menu? Absolutely! Defnitely try this place… I hope they stay around for a while!

This place is right next to the office and is not clearly known since it is off the Main Street but the quality of food is superb. The portions are small but quantity does not allows mean quality. I love the lobster bisque as an appetizer and their ribeye and steaks are top notch. I will come again and again for special occasions!

I’ve wanted to try a David Burke restaurant for the longest time and I finally had the chance to last weekend. I’m sad to say it was over hyped and pretty disappointing. When we first arrived, we went to the hostess to tell her we had a reservation. We noticed the party in front of us, an elderly couple, was asked if they wanted their coats checked but they never bothered to ask us. I can only assume it’s because we look young and weren’t dressed to the nines. I’m sorry, was that a prerequisite I didn’t know about? When we were seated, our waitress came promptly and I had no complaints about the service. My sister and I shared the grilled octopus and then I had the roasted duck breast while she had the beef short ribs. All of the dishes were decent but not memorable. Some pieces of the octopus were chewier than they should have been and when cooked correctly, they should be tender. My duck breast wasn’t anything special; it was tender but didn’t have much flavor to it which was a letdown. My sister’s beef short ribs were better than my entrée but still nothing to write home about. They weren’t as tender and juicy as I would have thought and lacked flavor as well. The best part of her dish was the house made cavatelli and black truffle mousse. I know this is a steakhouse and maybe we would have enjoyed our dinner more had we ordered steaks, but we weren’t in the mood for that. I’d like to give Grillhouse by David Burke a second chance, maybe if they have lunch specials I’ll check it out. Although I don’t feel the food is worth the price they charge for the quality or quantity.
