When shopping for plants and such, I like to spread the biz around like fertilizer. And Aunt Beez is probably the fourth place I’ve found in the Galena area for greenhouse goodies. The first interesting thing is the trip there. Don’t think you’re lost or you’ve gone too far when the road it’s on turns left after heading north for a couple of miles. Aunt Beez is out there in the cornfields and at the end of a one-mile dirt road. A charming rural spot just W/NW of downtown Scales Mound. When you see the caboose on your left and the two horses and a donkey on your right, you’re almost there. It’s about ¼ mile further on the left. The greenhouse is located on a farm, and is of moderate size. There is the usual collection of small vegetable plants, annual and perennial flowers, shrubs, and hanging plants. Brigitte is the owner and she looks NOTHING like Aint Bee. I have to admit I love the name as it does convey what the place is: homey, rural, and flowery. No sign of Sheriff Taylor, Opie or Barney Fife, or their look-a-likes. Just a pleasant little place in the country to pick up plants you know have been well-raised and well-cared for. It is located near Galena Vineyards winery, the village of Scales Mound, and The Hawk Valley Retreat, in case you are in the area and want to stop by.
