I love this place! They have my favorite whiskey and the lady who cashiers is just so charming and cute.

The middle aged woman gave me some nasty stares when I came in like I was prepared to rob the place and I don’t even drink! Ha ha. Luckily for me Mr. Ganems came to my aid to recommend a local Georgia whiskey. He suggested a Georgia made whiskey and also a local Savannah whiskey which I promptly bought for my daughter. Doesn’t get any more local than that. This place really has quite the variety of spirits. Prices and quality appear to vary from low end to very high quality. You’ll find unusual stuff here. We even heard a gentleman speaking in his native Gullah dialect on our way out of the store, so apparently this place is popular with the locals. That was pretty cool.

Pretty cool, very local, looks family owned. Very good wine selection, prices right where they should be. Good liquor selection, decent beer selection.

A five-star liquor store if there ever was one, right in the heart of old Savannah. JGs is nothing fancy but remains an institution, a haven for booze. Not a wine guy(wino?) but there are reds as far as the eye can see. Whiskey waterfalls six feet high. You can buy single 12 oz. beers so you can try just one or mix and match a few. We went there on New Years Eve, a short walk from the house on Gaston. Chose an agave beer for myself pouring it into one of the red Solo cups we brought. Savannah has a cup culture; as long as it’s in one you can drink freely. Forget yours at home? JGs has you covered. Clear ones but better than jail. The second time was Saturday couple days later. Wild Card Game on. Was that a pass interference earlier? Against Arizona? The clerk coolly assured me it wasn’t. Looked around for gum but no luck. Guess a real liquor store like Johnnie Ganems doesn’t bother. With a clear cup of Summer Wheat in hand we struck out into the nascent night, the year still new.

I’ve been going to Johnny Ganem’s for many years now, and I genuinely wish I could say that it was a great local liquor store. And when it comes to wine, they do have what seems like a large selection. But I’m more of a beer drinker, and not only is Ganem’s beer selection kind of mediocre, but they started doing the«build your own six-pack» thing a few years ago, and now the vast majority of six-packs in their coolers have been picked over and only have three or four bottles in them. While this might be a great option for people who want to experiment with a few different selections, I generally just want to able to walk in and get six bottles of something I like, and I simply can’t do that here anymore.

Have been shopping at Johnnie Ganem’s for 8 years, and today, called at 10:30 to ask if they had a specialty case coming in called Beer Camp. Was told to call back at 2:30 when they’re beer guy came in and did. He said that they just arrived and they would be put in system and ready in an hour. Left immediately and arrived in 20 minutes. Saw a case and asked if they were ready yet and was prepared to wait since we were early. Was told that«we only got four cases in and we have to take care of our regular customers» even though we were the first ones there and ready and willing to pay and told him we had been shopping there for eight years. So why didn’t you tell us any of this information over the phone instead of sending us on a wild goose chase? Or why didn’t you say that cases had been reserved, but if you got more in, that we could reserve one too? You just wanted us to come in your store because you thought if we didn’t buy that case we were searching for, we would buy something else. Instead, because of your poor customer service and handling of this situation, we will never be back.

when I first sat down with Paul Ganem to discuss his services, I told him my number one priority is to have beer wine and champagne very cold before it is delivered to location. he said it was not a problem that it will be put in the cooler early that day and be very cold upon arrival. it was not. It had been sitting out, luke warm beer lukewarm champagne lukewarm Chardonnay. We were able to put some bottles in the freezer to chill fast, had a lot of ice we had to put on beer but it took an hour for it to cool down. That was my only real request for him and he totally failed me. I called him on it he made an excuse but he did apologize. I will not use their service again.

Go to this liquor store! It’s so nice and they have so many things and the people are so helpful and nice! And they have good deals! Definitely the best place to buy beer or liquor or wine in Savannah.

This is definitely the best place to buy liquor and wine in downtown Savannah. It’s nothing fancy, and the displays are a little cluttered, but they have an excellent selection and it’s well-organized.

stuck in the lovely garden district of Savannah for a few days. wanted home-served wine. Found Johnnies. Can’t believe the selection. From the outside, it doesn’t look special. Walk through the doors and the selection of wine, beer and spirits will satisfy even the most finicky customer. very gracious service.

Large variety of liqueurs and some reasonable prices make this unattractive store/deli a great spot to get any fixed. Convenient hours is also a plus!!!

Best spot to buy wine downtown. They have a great selection and pricing is suitable. I’ve seen certain wines marked lower at places like Habersham Beverage but for the downtown community this is as good as it gets. If this was anything like Peachtree Wine Merchants in Atlanta with their suggestions and outgoing assistance, I would give then five starts. They just didn’t measure up to the guys back there. They have good beers, including good craft beers and imports. I was disappointed to see they didn’t have Sam Adams seasonal, but it was a nice weekend so I will just assume they sold out.

Johnnie Ganem’s is my favorite liquor store in Savannah(mostly because it’s located two blocks away from my house.) This former deli now stocks an incredible variety of beer, wine and liquor. It’s easy for everyone in your group to find their poison of choice for the night. In fact, you might have trouble making up your mind simply because there is so much to choose from! It’s a very busy place and in a pretty safe location, close to downtown but not a touristy area. They have some mixers, like Redbull and juice, but these are overpriced. Better to make 2 stops and hit up Kroger three blocks directly south. Watch out if you show up with a buzz. Some of the alcohol displays sit on the floor, and it’s easy to bump stuff if you’re not careful(especially if you have a big purse.) They tend not to card but I wouldn’t push your luck. Loses a star because they close at 11pm, which is retardely early even though I’m sure it’s not their fault.
