The owner, Vito Soave, rented me an apt in his converted Victorian house/apt building for the summer. When I got there, the place reeked of cigarette smoke, even though it was advertised as non-smoking. Mr. Soave claimed he didn’t know former tenants were smoking there. According to my rental agreement, I was supposed to have gotten the balance of the $$ I paid up front, less a large fee if his agent was able to rerent it. He did, and they never told me(they were supposed to). I took him to small claims court. I paid him $ 6400.; he rerented for another $ 4500., so he made $ 11,000. when he thought he was only going to get my $ 6400!!! Through court mediation, I only came away with $ 3,000., even though I only spend one night in that dump. And had extreme aggravation from it as well(and to this day). DONOT give this crook your business. He is a lying, uncaring slumlord.

Yep, this is a great shop. Careful when you wander in, because one could get lost for days amonst all the really great and greatly diverse stuff to be had here. Need a stunning hat? Absolutely How about an action figure of somebody like Einstein? Yep. However, it’s the framing department that has me enthralled. The work is always a knock out, Nice array of materials(including terrific mats). And then there’s something else they bring to the party, Hmmm, could it be great taste? Yeah, that’s it: wonderful, impeccable taste. Also a great eye(well, eyes since more than one person staffs the service). Their work ranges from handsome and classic to striking and unexpected. They are the best in town, the county, the Northeast(?). Really.

I had sticker shock when I walked in… from a sticker on the door celebrating Soave Faire being in business forty years! When it first opened, I secretly hoped it wouldn’t do well, because I was angry its predecessor, Globe, had closed. That was where, as a teenager, I got all my model train stuff, my chemistry set stuff, my model rocket engines, etc. But Soave Faire has grown, as has my appreciation of the store. First, there’s their art supplies in the back, really great. I’m not an artist, but if I were, I’d come here first before going to any of those hobby chains in big-box-land. The rest of the store is filled with neat stuff: puzzles, interesting books, novelties I haven’t seen in decades, office supplies, tarot cards, etc. And every time I come in, there’s always something new and different. Now they have a really impressive collection of hats, everything from fancy to casual to theatrical. Soave Faire is a Broadway institution, and a well-deserved one.

If you need nice art supplies go no further than Soave Faire. Their selection of paint, brushes, clay, paper, pencils, markers, ink, stamps, and whatever else you can think is amazing. The prices are a tad on the high side for certain things but I don’t know if you could get them any cheaper to tell the truth. It is a gift shop as well but it is all about the art for me. You can spend a long time just looking around and enjoying the shop. The staff are very nice and helpful. So, if you are in Down town, stop in a take a peek.

Lots of art supplies, office supplies, and just fun supplies. A great place to browse! And the framing section upstairs does an awesome job! Plus, hats — very Toga…

This could be one of my favorite places on earth. The thought of being near made me want to live in Saratoga. I warn you. Not everybody can handle it’s glory, Folks who like shopping in places like malls and wal-mart may nor have realized how there shopping skills have been honed to that sterile environment. If you like clean and ordered environments, you might feel so uncomfortable on entering, that your senses burn. An overstimulated orgy of toys, hats, cards, Egyptian artifacts, books, lamps, magic tricks, and most wonderfully of all a full fledged art supply shop in back. Things are heaped in the corners, mountains of items luxuriate on the shelves and narrow walkways. Glue to magnets, tape and paper. I feel that little in this world is more comforting than art supplies and stationary. If you cant find it in the lower levels of the store, your have to make it yourself with the art supply area in the back. We are all artists. We need to create. They have everything you need, and if it’s not there, you dint really need it.
