Recently I had tonsils removed. Very efficient and lovely building. Kind staff. However I was expecting 23 hour observation as told beforehand by 2 doctors. I was sent home as it was claimed there was no place for me or staff to watch me. I went home only to return same day to ER and surgery to stop the bleeding. I was then kept for 23 hr observation. ASNEEDED. I was about to become a mortality. I don’t know who is at fault but it has been a dreadful experience and for the doctor and OR people who saved my life. I was told they pumped what blood they could from my stomach. I hope not to need to return for anything requiring 23 observation.

This is where you want to have surgery! Gorgeous state-of-the-art facilities. A+. No dreadful hospital feel here. The nurses and everyone I came across were helpful, knowledgeable, and professional.

If you need to ever be hospitalized at this hospital, please be aware that their billing practices are very shady… my mom was visiting us, had to be hospitalized for…6 hours, was charged a total of over $ 20,000.for observation… which they sent to her as a single figure bill with NO breakdown of services… They then refused to bill the insurance company because she lives in Europe, but referred her to a switzerland collecting agency that added $ 5000 to her bill. No help from them either that keep referring me to UCLA to get a detailed bill. On a side note, As a UCLA alumni I was chocked to find that when I contacted UCLA billing Dept to request a detailed bill, their employees were semi-illiterate, incapable of answering a basic email without gross spelling mistakes and unable to fulfill such basic function as providing a detailed bill of services rendered. I am in process of seeking legal action to force them, as pathetic as it is to provide a detailed bill. Seriously doubt it that we are an isolated case and would love to share my story with other Unilocalers… Hope that It is just a case of poorly trained staff and that it is not a deliberate billing enhancement tactic that deserves a class action suit…

This is a part of the new(er) medical buildings on 16th Street in Santa Monica. A stand alone building across the street from the main hospital. This is a stunning looking building — very zen like with a surgery center and doctors offices. I have been in both including the admissions area and everything is brand shiny & new! Polished cement floors, bamboo and contemporary. All the staff I met was very nice and the operating rooms glissens with shiny stuff. It felt kinda Grey’s Anatomy-ish. After you get undressed into your gown & booties they give you warm blankets to keep you comfy while you wait for your turn. I was like REALLY??? Okay, sure I’ll take another. In n’ out in under 3 hours. Granted I was useless the rest of the day but I’d much rather be useless at home than in the hospital… :) Oh and parking is $ 18.00 in the lot next door.
