The high rating is for the guys running this place. It’s so tiny yet they try to accommodate your food request. The food is very simply but they bend over backwards to make you happy. I’d like to see what these folks would do with a larger joint. Open early. Prices are dirt cheap. Small space but you can take your food and eat it by the pier. Oceanic view, good food and crazy seabirds. Who could ask for anything more?

What the… is this a chain coming out of Bayville? Does this location have the jetty on display? Can we hear the excellent band Big Orange Marble and All Folked Up here? I hear some major artists from Oglio Records eat here. I love hot dogs and donuts. OHOH!

Do you ever find yourself craving the gloriously greasy yet immediately regret-and-bloat inducing monstrosity that is McDonald’s breakfast? Yes, yes — I too, the bleary-eyed hours of the morning, have allowed the promise of a «sausage egg» McMuffin to lure me into the welcoming pull of those hypnotizing golden arches, and I too have felt the self-hatred that hits you like a sack of rocks immediately after scarfing down of said«sausage egg» McMuffin… why the quotation marks, you ask? Umm, because who knows what the Jesus H. Christ is in the mystery meat/protein that McDonalds likes to pass off as some legitimate form of nutrition? Well, regret no more — Santa Monica Hot Dogs is THE alternative for on-the-go breakfast sandwiches if you’re down in Santa Monica and need to grab a quick bite to eat before you engage in the shiny, beach-y outdoorsy type activities that denizens of Santa Monica are inclined to doing!(Or, in my case, when I’m preparing to sit sedentarily in front of a computer for the next ten hours) I’m not saying that its healthier than McDonalds. Oh, no, no — I’ve microwaved one of these bad boys and the grease stain they leave on your paper towel is no joke. However, instead of the rock-hard, yet perplexingly oily, sausage patty, the vaguely-but-not-quite egg-like substance and the mysterious yellow square, for just one or two more George Washington, you’ll get a piping hot sandwich, with REAL meat(including options of ham, bacon, sausage), gooey melted cheese and an egg that I could actually believe popped from the buttocks of a chicken at one point in its lifecycle. They also provide ketchup and Tapatio packets if you’re on the go, so, you know… Hot sauce immediately gives +349842309 point advantage. They even have a CROISSANT and BAGEL breakfast sandwiches. That’s some fancy shiznat, ‘na what I mean? I usually stick with the muffin, because… um well I love English muffins and they’re marginally cheaper. Definitely worth giving a try! A satisfying, hot breakfast for relatively cheap and still hits the oh-so-good fatty button without also inducing pain. Plus, you’re supporting a small business over an evil corporation that is leading to the homogenization of global culture, is increasing obesity, diabetes and a host of other health problems across the population, and which is essentially the epitome of all that is wrong with Western civilization. Never tried the donuts here but I guess the other Unilocal reviews are saying no bueno!

WOW! Okay, the donuts aren’t that great hence the non-perfect score, but you can’t seriously come to a donut shop for donuts, right? Exactly. The crowd winning orders are the sandwiches all pictured out on the front glass wall and their hot dogs. After all the good review and the cheap $ sign on Unilocal,my coworker and I paid this place a visit for lunch. I got the ham, egg, cheese, and avocado sandwich on a bagel toasted. DELICIOUS! And for only $ 4? In Santa Monica? SOCHEAP! I thought the sandwich might be too small and debated on ordering two, but after I gobbled it up, I was full. My coworker had his eye on the Chicken spread on croissants. He loved it! Said the place was«cool.» I used my check-in to get a free donut. It’s not the best donut ever. Actually, it’s not that good… so don’t order donut at this donut shop! It’s not what you want, trust me. They’re cash only, easy to miss because it’s so tiny and only has 2 tables inside. They take cash only but don’t worry, if you’re desperate enough, you’ll pay the $ 3 service fee to get cash out of the ATM inside the shop. But of course, getting a sandwich or hot dog may make you thirsty, well, that’s when you’ll look at the menu and see they have Thai Tea! Finding Thai Tea in this city is improbable. But at the cost of $ 4, your thirst will be quenched. Watch out for more check-ins here from me!

I stopped by here on a lunch break to get some donuts for a co-workers birthday. Not only were they pretty much out of the basics, the donuts tasted stale and like they had been out a few days. The location was convenient and the donuts were cheap, but it looks like I got what I paid for. Friendly service, so can’t quite justify one star, but wouldn’t recommend going here.

i was hungry, but didn’t have much time, so i was happy to pass by this small café on the way back to the parking structure. as per its namesake, this place carries donuts and hot dogs, but also offers many sandwich options for breakfast and lunch. i grabbed an avocado, egg, and cheese wrap to go($ 2.99). for the price i paid, i got a good size wrap that was hot, delicious, and very filling. note that the interior is tiny, but has a few tables and chairs should you choose to dine in. the location is great, right by the beach and near multiple parking structures.

I love this little shop. If you are ever in santa monica and wanna get a quick bite to eat this is an awesome place to go. They have fresh donuts in the morning, the sandwiches are delicious and the customer service is amazing. They treat you like family. I always stop here when I can.

The only thing worse than having a very bad donut addiction is having a very bad donut shop a block away from your house. Downtown Santa Monica is severely lacking in the donut department and I continue to come here and continue to be disappointed. I throw away more food than I actually consume. The donuts never taste freshly made! I’m positive they leave their donuts in the case for days at a time. It is a tiny place, so there is very little variety and they are always out of donut holes when I want them! The bagels are the cheap, store-bought Sara Lee type and everything is over-priced compared to other places in the area. After experiencing DK’s donut revelation, I now know what a donut is supposed to taste like! Heaven! I can’t believe I’ve been disappointed by this place for so long and continue to go there. I’ve made up my mind — I don’t care if I can walk to this place, it is officially the worst donut shop I’ve ever been to. One star for very nice service! Minus the other 4 for poor quiality donuts. I would love to be able to crawl out of bed and walk across the street for a quick breakfast, but I guess I’ll be driving across town to DK’s to feed my donut addiction.

I can’t get enough of their veggie croissant sandwich! Its absolutely delicious, filled with fresh veggies(including avocado) and dressed with a delightful vinaigrette. At just over $ 4, this is the most affordable option in the area that isn’t McDonald’s(Amen for that!).

I ate at this place twice: the first time I had the delicious Tuna toast on white bread — yes, I know, white bread isn’t good for you. The second time I had plenty of time to spend there so I had the fresh cut pineapple, a foot long chicken salad and the Orange Pineapple smoothie. The sandwich was good and I couldn’t finish it all. The smoothie took forever to be ready and by time they were done with it, I had finished my sandwich and the fruit. I thought it was ok. Maybe I had too much pineapple that day. This establishment is small and they got only four tables and a few seats, so even if there are 6 people there it seems crowded.
