I started going to Dr. Somers when I first moved to Santa Monica in 2013. He always makes my yearly exam enjoyable and comfortable. Dr. Somers is extremely nice, caring, and passionate about what he does. He really takes the time to ask questions about my work and lifestyle, and gives advice on the best way for me to take care of my eyes. It is by far the best experience I’ve had with an optometrist, my previous doctors have been hasty and made the appointments feel rushed. This one takes his time. The office also takes care of contact lens orders swiftly and are really great at following up. This is a genuine business which I always look forward to coming to, and would recommend Dr. Somers to anyone in search of a top notch optometrist on the Westside.

I find myself only writing reviews for places and things that are either outstanding or horrible. Luckily this is for the former. Dr. Somers is incredibly nice, informative, and extremely professional. I had a very good optometrist prior but always felt like he did not have my best interest at heart. Dr. Somers on the other hand is the patient advocate and what more could you ask for?

Dr Somers and Donna take great care of me. Dr Somers is thorough and patient and makes sure you get the right prescription. Donna has a great eye for helping out with picking glasses that fit your face and your style. The selection is good with frames ranging from cost effective to the newest hottest frames. Also they take VSP and insurance and that is a great bonus.

Great experience! Dr. Somers always kept my prescription up to date and always notified me of any shifts in my severe astigmatism. Dr. Somers also helped me pick the perfect contacts to make sure I wasn’t straining my eyes at the computer all day. Donna, the office manager, makes you feel right at home. She always greets me with a welcoming smile and has a great sense of humor. A true fashionista, she helped me pick out the PERFECT frames that made me feel attractive AND smart AND in my budget! Only downside: limited parking off busy Wilshire

Ok… I wear glasses, my eyes suck now that I’m entering middle age. Age related far sighted stuff. Distance and close up sight has deteriorated. Essentially w/o glasses I’m screwed. Anyway, I had to have emergency surgery on my nose due to a deviated septum. And guess what? No wearing glasses for 6 weeks! What to do??? Contacts? But I was told they wouldn’t work for my situation… So, being a member of a mutual organization, I knew one of the staff(Donna) worked at Dr Somers’ shop. In a panic, I went in not expecting to be a candidate for contacts and walked out an hour late SEEINGFORTHEFIRSTTIMEWITHOUTGLASSES. Sorry for the shouting caps but this has changed my life. They were patient throughout the process and the staff(Donn and co) are extremely trained and capable. I have been to several optometrists over the years since I tuned 40 and all have failed to get my repeat business… My search has stopped with Dr Somers and his staff. Not expensive for being in Santa Monica and the doc is real good at troubleshooting your eyes. He might be a little low key but you will leave seeing razor sharp and life filled with colors… Thanks guys! Tony

Last year, I cheated on my Optometrist and went to Dr. Somers in Woodland Hills. The problem with my last eye doctor was that he had gained popularity(probably because of raving Unilocal reviews), and I could never get an appointment with him. Needless to say, when I realized that I had a few days left to use my flexible medical spending for the year before it disappeared(if only there was rollover!), I knew I wouldn’t be seeing the old doc. I took a chance and went to Dr. Somers. At first I was apprehensive because he didn’t seem as friendly or inviting as I had known my old optometrist to be. Don’t let that fool you! He knows his stuff and he cares about your eyes! His staff made every effort to get me in during a busy weekend for the last-minute appointment. I experienced the most comprehensive eye examination… complete with a few eye tests that I had never even *seen* before. Dr. Somers even told me how to blink more efficiently(to avoid dry eyes), and supplied me with enough contact solution to get me to my next annual appointment. Since then, he has closed CompuEye Care in Woodland Hills, but I am willing to make the trip to SaMo for his kind, slightly less personable but starkly more attentive, service. The office is small and his eyeglass selection is limited, but the doctor and staff will take the time to make sure you feel like your trip is a premium, one-on-one extensive eye examination.

The place is rather small… smaller than the normal optometry. but the service is excellent. Dr. Ross Somers has been working for almost 25 years and he knows almost everything and everything about eyecare. He is very caring towards his patients, and I had a great experience getting my eyes checked there. He also has a great deal where you can buy two pairs of glasses and get one of them half off, which I thought was a great deal. Though his optometry is rather cozy, it is very clean, and he also has the latest styles of Ray Bans, Vera Wang, CK, and Jhane Barnes glasses. Donna, the optician working there, is very experienced in helping you find the perfect frames for your face. Come to his place if you’re looking for a quality optometrist who truly cares about your eyes. Also I suggest making an appointment because this optometry can get pretty busy.

How many times have you found a doctor you liked, but whose staff were so terrible that you couldn’t bear to go back? All the time, right? That was the situation with my last eye doctor. I liked him, but his stuff could not do anything right; so I left. You won’t find incompetence at this office. His assistant was gregarious, intelligent, and competent. She helped me pick out a pimp pair of eye glasses, too. The doctor was competent and holistic. He discussed the nutritional aspects of vision(even though I knew all of that), which is something more doctors should do. Most patients do not realize that fish oil helps fish oil; that simple sugars hurt it; and a healthy diet is great for vision. He even told me I was too stressed out, and that being so stressed out could harm my vision. He suggested Yoga.(I already do Yoga.) A competent stuff and an eye doctor who realizes that there’s more to correcting vision than just wearing lenses. Five stars all the way.
