This place is a must! I can’t get over how good the food was. I got the mussels tikki masala and the BBQ shrimp. It really was the best dinner I’ve had in awhile! The crowd was fun and outgoing. The décor of the place was really cool. I highly recommend this place. They had an area in the front that was more loungey with couches and low standing tables. So if you are looking for a place that would accommodate a group of people there for drinks and appetizers, this would work well for that. They have outdoor seating, too. So please go!

Great spot for dinner. We sat at the bar and service was on point. Seats were actually comfortable to the point that you actually want to hang out and chill for a while. Food was very good and well prepared. I loved the décor! Very earthy, open and airy. I’m definitely going back for brunch.

Solid new location in Santa Monica. Well trained friendly staff. Happy Hour has amazing oysters and drinks. Very hip and trendy spot that gets very busy. Convenient valet parking and restaurant is just a block from the beach. TV’s at the bar to watch your favorite game. Great vibe! For Cocktails try«Grow a Pear» and the fennel sausage pizza is nice! Enjoy!

Dined here last night with a party of 8, or maybe 9 :) It was a work dinner and we all had a lot of fun. So, yes, the place is noisy, but we probably contributed quite a bit to that. I had a drink at the bar with a co-worker before the rest of the gang showed up. The bartenders were very attentive. The whole place is quite expansive, and so is the bar! We started the feast with four appetizers, 2 orders each: the mushroom soup, mussels, octopus and pork belly. All were very tasty although the soup could have been a bit warmer. The pork belly with the braised lentils was easily my favorite — what a great combination! The have quite the selection of Pinot Noir and so we had some good choices, the favorite by far being the Fog Crest Pinot Noir. The Stolpmann Grenache was also quite lush and a crowd pleaser. As a main I had the house-made pasta with shaved black truffles, quite tasty. The staff was very attentive and mostly knew just the right moment to approach our bustling table. A couple of the wine selections did take a bit to make it to the table. I am keen to check their Happy Hour … one dollar oysters are just too sweet! Wouldn’t go here on a romantic date of any kind, but there’s some nice energy here that will draw in lots of people in this part of town.

A great little jewel of a restaurant right by the beach. We had an amazing brunch that started off with a Bloody Mary and the most decadent cinnamon roll. The Madame Croque was a great choice. If you are ever in the area, and are looking to try something great. Try this place out. The ambiance is amazing

Why: Dine LA, 2016. Decided on Herringbone, because, well, their menu sounded good and its a new and pretty restaurant. Reservations were super easy, plenty of availability, and we had no problem changing it when we had to. First Impression and Ambiance: Arrived and valet is right in front, $ 8. Hostess was very nice. Space is dramatic, high ceilings and very interesting lighting fixtures, décor etc. – Very sea creature chic. We were seated and handed a regular menu and a cocktail menu. No dine la menu. Our server came over and offered us a selection of bottled waters. When I asked for regular tap, he reminded me that we were in a drought. At this point I felt like Kristin Wiig in Bridesmaids«Help me I’m poor» and awkwardly ask for the dine la menu in addition to our poor people water. Food & Service: I was immediately disappointed when I saw that 2 items on the menu had a $ 15 supplement, the ceviche and the filet. This was not something that I noticed on the advertised menu. 2 in our party paid the additional $ 15 for the ceviche. They liked it. I had the kale salad. It was ok. I had the pasta with house made sausage, my pals had the jidori chicken and the third had the fish. Also, just ok. For dessert, I had the hazelnut chocolate bar, one bite was enough for me, they had the herringbone sundae and both loved it. It was the highlight of their meal. I never quite had one. Cocktails fell flat as well. $ 12 for creative sounding cocktails that tasted pretty generic. I had the Jalé Berry and I liked the name but have no need to have it again. Our server and the staff that helped him were nice and polished but lurky. They lurked over our table a lot… It was weird… I couldn’t tell what the root of their anxiety was. Were they trying to rush us out, or what? It was awkward and intrusive. I almost felt like I had to go elsewhere just to talk to my friends. Verdict: The group consensus was that this was not the best Dine LA experience we’ve had, and quite honestly it was NOT a good value($ 80 pp for dine LA menu + 1 cocktail each). Add to that a bizarre service experience and the sneaky upsell, we probably won’t be back. I can see why it was so easy to grab a table during restaurant week.

I came here tonight for happy hour after work with some of my coworkers. We decided to check this place out since it was conveniently located near our workplace. First of all, the place is very cutely decorated. It has a nautical/ocean feel going on from the moment you step inside, and it’s clear that the owners/designers expertly thought through the theme and how best to represent it. The décor fits well with the ocean vibe, but at the same time, is stylish and modern, with decorations you’d likely see on Pinterest(e.g., ropes hanging over lighting, plank-like menus, pufferfish trees). They have more casual bar seating and couches, along with regular tables for dining. Since the happy hour menu didn’t have too many seafood items that I was in the mood for(I think just oysters and mussels), I ended up going with a pesto and sausage pizza. I also ordered a Skinny Jenny cocktail, their version of a Moscow Mule. The pizza was delicious and had great flavors, and I enjoyed the drink since it was light and fresh-tasting. Our waiter was helpful in recommending drinks to our group and other waitstaff were also very attentive. I’m looking forward to coming back here soon to try some seafood. Since it’s so close, I’m sure I’ll be back soon!

This was a great working dinner and I must say the ambiance is one of the better designs I’ve seen in quite awhile. The food I’ll get to later. What made this evening so enjoyable was our waitress Alicia. She really went out of her way to explain all the offerings elegantly. It is rare today to find a person that is genuine and fun. Real people that obviously enjoy and take pride in being if service. I really hope the management reads this and shares this review with her! Alicia you rock! Now for the food I was wanted to bring this to 5 stars though I found that most of the items were a bit flat in taste. Tonight we had the kale salad, Asian pear salad, albacore poke, steak tartare, diver scallops, crab cake, fried brussels, focaccia bread and sorbet for dessert(that was excellent!) The only item that was absolutely not so much was the bread, dry and tasteless also t be pears that were used were hard and flavorless. Bummer. So here’s the deal I look forward to coming back and changing the rating. This is a gorgeous restaurant and I’m sure will rise to the occasion.

I don’t know what everyone is complaining about but HERRINGBONEISBOMB! We had the albacore poke and the branzino ceviche and they were all seasoned perfectly. The kale salad was delicious. The pears held the salad together perfectly. Our entrees were amazing! The chicken was SOTENDER and perfectly seasoned! Our albacore was also perfectly seasoned. The side vegetables were amazing as well. As far as desserts go, the blondies Sunday was SO good. The hazelnut tart was very good as well.

Solid 4 stars. Came here to celebrate a birthday during DineLa. The service was 5 stars from the valet, hostess, and all the servers. The attentiveness, courtesy, and pleasantness of all the staff was above my expectations. Food: I thoroughly enjoyed my albacore poke on top of avocado(guacamole) served with seaweed crackers. I also sampled the grilled buffalo octopus, which I loved! It deserves 4 stars. The flavor was spot on with a little spicy kick to it. My only complaint was the octopus was a tad over cooked. My main course was grilled albacore. Seasoned perfectly. I would have like my albacore a little more charred and rarer than what was served, but still worth 4 stars. The dessert I selected was the hazelnut brownie. It was light and creamy on top with a crisp nutty chocolate brownie bottom(4 stars for the brownie). Ambiance: trendy, great for groups, clean, spacious, but too noisy to carry a conversation. I recommend giving this restaurant a try.

Don’t order the buffalo ranch octopus or the scallop appetizers. Way to much sauce with flavors which just don’t blend way together. The fish tasted ok but was over powered with all the sauces. Food overall very mediocre. Waiters and managers were very nice, but for sure I will never come back here for the food! Maybe for a drink!

Decided to try this restaurant out for DineLA restaurant week for lunch today. We had a reservation and were seated promptly in our choice of location. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman who got our drinks and water promptly. We ordered off the DineLA pre fixe menu. I had the tuna tartare and salmon. My friend had the mushroom soup which looked amazing as well. The dessert that was included was sea salt chocolate chip cookies. The area was nice, the interior was beautiful and nicely decorated. Nice clean restrooms which say a lot about a dining establishment. I would highly recommend this and want to come back as well. They have $ 1 oyster happy hours on weekdays I believe and we sat right next to the oyster bar. Everything nicely presented and the oysters displayed behind the glass over ice looked fabulous. Can’t wait to go back and try them!

I’m slightly saddened that I waited so long to write this review that I forgot what my main dishes were for the night. Anyways…I’m a big fan of all of these restaurants coming to the Westside since it pains me to leave my bubble when I don’t have to. Herringbone is beautiful and whether you’re there for a date or a big group dinner, I just love the décor. I definitely want to come back and try oyster hour and just sit at the bar. As others have mentioned, my memorable food moments was definitely the whole fish ceviche. It was my favorite! The oysters are good too, our waitress gave a fabulous reco. So, yes, my review is for the whole fish ceviche. It’s delicious!

I really wanted to love this place, I really did! I even made excuses to my self as to why this wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be, but when it comes right down to it, the restaurant has nothing to offer. Every dish we ordered had fundamental flaws. Over cooked, under seasoned, competing flavors, etc. We ate. We drank. We left. I truly hope that I was here on an off night, since other reviews have nothing in common with mine.

Happy Hour Review — 4:30 — 6:30pm M-F AMBIANCE — Very nice dining area for HH. We sat at the communal table for HH. It was packed tonight. I was there last week with a girlfriend and we had the table to ourselves. Not the case tonight. Maybe the word is out about their great HH? The seats are super comfortable. SERVICE — Our female server was great. Very attentive and always there when we needed something. I forgot her name. Sorry. FOOD — $ 1 oysters — Raspberry Point — good size, flavor not the best $ 10 Tikka Masala Mussels with toasted pita bread — great combination $ 8 Pizza — good $ 7 Specialty cocktails — hubby had Skinny Jenny — Good! Great for groups and just hanging out. We can’t wait to go back soon!

AMBIANCE– Like a page out of an upscale lifestyle and décor magazine, the details are understated but cohesive. I loved the mostly overhead décor, such as the rustic branches and subtle sea details. The space felt large but not cold; there was more than ample room, both at the U-shaped bar and vertical chef’s table. Tables were full on Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend with the clanking of plates and the buzz of cocktail talk. SERVICE– I see mixed reviews on service, but my experience was stellar. Our waiter and other wait staff were attentive with our food and drink orders. We never had to wait long for our current or new alcohol orders(thank you Linus), our water was always replenished, and our food came right away. DRINKS– I tried both rum and coke and their house Cab. I preferred the smooth-tasting house Cab and how generous the pouring was. FOOD– Amazing, fresh, unique. From the herb fries to the oyster sample, the poached prawns to the whole fish ceviche, the ahi tuna to the cavatelli pasta, and even the grilled buffalo octopus courtesy of the chef, everything was on point. My favorites were the whole fish ceviche for its unique presentation and light taste, and the cavatelli pasta for its texture and ingredients(truffles!). Everything was stellar, but the food took the cake.

Had dinner a couple weeks ago and damn! Solid experience. What an awesome, cool place, and that’s hard to accomplish in a mixed use project, but this place has a lot of character. It was popping and we were there on a Wednesday night, so you know that they have a good thing going. The only thing that pissed me off was that the Valets took forever to get my damn car, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant. Onto the 3PS scale: Place: excellent design. Great location, tastefully decorated, cool vibe that is very very modern. Hard to believe that it’s just a seafood restaurant. Product: fabulously done from hors d’ouvres to entrees. It’s a seasonal menu so it’s hard to compare notes, but it changes a lot. People: wealthy, successful, goodlooking. Middle age and up. Classy. Sassy. Service: our server was very sweet and playful with us. On point and attentive. Will definitely make it back here again.

CLIFF’S NOTES: The space is stunning. Unfortunately, the food and service is not. FOOD: Overall the food was good, but not great. Other than the fantastic Smoke Trout Dip, nothing else was memorably good or bad. The problem is that the food doesn’t even come close to matching the prices. AMBIENCE: The space is fantastic! I cannot say enough great things about this sexy, but not stuffy, space. It’s an amazing mix of indoor/outdoor space, open kitchen and beachy feel. Why why why don’t more LA restaurants have significant outdoor seating??? Top 5 restaurant spaces in LA! Warning though: Interior is loud… ask to be seated outside if you want a more reasonable ambient volume. STAFF: Slow, disorganized and inattentive. We had to flag a server multiple times for things like water refills, additional drinks, a problem with a plate, etc. Staff needs much better training. PRICES: I was shocked at some of the prices. One of the signature dishes is a whole fish ceviche for $ 26. Too bad the«whole fish» served seemed to be too small to be legally caught as it was about 6 – 7 bites of ceviche. Insulting. The Water Grill just down the street does a much better and more reasonably priced whole fish ceviche. We spent about $ 70 per person including 1 drink each and felt robbed. TIP: Come for happy hour for drinks, ambiance & $ 1 oysters. Go elsewhere for dinner.

Amazing food and drinks! We pretty much tried everything on the happy hour menu — which is from 4 — 6:30! Arancini Risotto Balls — Good to try, wouldn’t have more than one Mussels Tikka Masala w/Flatbread — Very curry like, delicious, but only comes with 4 mussels :( $ 1 Oysters — Delicious, decent sized, but a number of the ones I had sand in it Pizza — Fennel Sausage, Tomato, Pesto, Castlevetrano Olives, Mozzarella — good, but could be crispier I definitely need to come back for dinner though!

This is a must try restaurant. Herringbone has an inviting and unique atmoshpere-the kind that just makes you want to enjoy drinks while having great conversation. Here’s what we had: Oyster Amuse Bouche: fresh very strong oceanic taste. I’m sure this is a good thing, however I prefer mine with little to no after-taste. I will be back to try their others. Stone Fruit Salad: sweet and savory, I loved the mixture of Prosciutto with the fruit, it was quite refreshing on that humid day. *Baja Stone Crab: A personal favorite. This plate was a twist on traditional crab fried rice. What makes it addicting is the hints of crunch you get. This plate is definitely great to compliment the ceviche. *Whole Fish Ceviche: Showcased beautifully and artistically presented as a whole fish. This ceviche was quite good. Very acidic, just like how I like it. Worked well paired with scoops of my baja stone crab rice. Arancini: fried tomato/mozzarella balls in aioli. Bite-sized and tasty. *Seared Albacore Tuna: another personal favorite. Seared to perfection and ever so mouthwatering. The albacore was buttery and packed with the right amount of seasoning. No fishy after taste. Slow Cooked Angus Short Ribs: my least favorite. I tried 3 pieces and while it had a nice taste, I couldn’t get over how fatty the pieces were. Fried Brussels & Candied Pecans: perfectly cooked brussels, and cut into smaller more appealing portions. Paired with the candied pecans, this is great to have as a side dish(if you’re craving veggies to add to your meal)… Stone Fired Baby Broccoli & Sweet Peppers: good but nothing to rave about. Cinnamon Beignets: nicely battered and tasty. *Chocolate hazelnut bars: Beautifully presented and delicious-this completed my meal! The bars were rich in chocolate flavor accompanied by raspberries and drizzled with sauce. This was sinfully delicious but not too heavy or overpowering tasting. It was the perfect choice for dessert. I would definitely love to come back for their Oyster Hour($ 1 oysters). I cannot wait until there is a lunch & brunch menu. Herringbone-you’ve got me hooked!
