I have seen MANY hair stylists over my short 23 years of life, and while I’ve liked some of them many did not make me want to go back a second time. Maybe because they were so quick to determine what I want without asking me for my opinion, or the stylist is just not in a chatty mood. Either way, I’ve become very choosy about who does my hair (because let’s get real, I want to develop a life-​time relationship with people who touch my hair).
And I have found that in the form of Jeni at Sheenix salon. I came here upon a recommendation of a friend (who apparently have been coming for ages as well) and I was desperate for a hair cut and new highlights (last ones I got was in June 2014). I made an appointment (easy peasy, just give them a call) and was taken care of by Jeni who greeted me warmly when I walked in.
We got to work right away and she asked me about how I usually part my hair, what kind of cut and highlight I’m looking for, etc. She then gave me a couple of color swatches to let me decide on my highlight color, and being the ridiculously indecisive person I am I took forever to figure out which one I want. But Jeni was SUPER patient and gave great suggestions and recommendations.
We had a wonderful time chatting about everything under the sun as she got to work on my hair. She also was very willing to answer any hair-​related questions I have, which considering I didn’t know my partial to full highlights I super appreciate it!
The color and end cut looked AWESOME. Truth be told I was kinda afraid of what it will look like but I absolutely love it. My husband loves it and so far my friends on Facebook are digging it as well.
The price was SUPER reasonable (mind you I am on a part-​time job pay) and I thought I was gonna have to pay a lot more than I did (but I didn’t!). For the quality of work and attention I got, what I paid was nothing!
And her head massages during the washing part of your hair is to DIE for.
That’s it, I’m never letting anyone touch my hair ever again. Thanks a billion, Jeni girl, you’re the best!

I’d like to write an amazing review for Vida and Veronica, although Veronica is moving away! So sad! But Vida is awesome. She knows how to listen well to her customers and use her best judgement for their hair. She is experienced and fun to talk with while she makes your hair beautiful. She also helped with my bridesmaids hairdos for our wedding a few months ago and the girls looked amazing! She’s very organized, prompt, and very communicative about her appts. Can’t ask for a better stylist! The space at Sheenix is quaint and modern. They have great products and always offer a cup of tea or coffee. Sometimes I wish I could just hang out there and eat my lunch. Haha

Veronica McRae was recommended to me by a friend, and when I visited her at Sheenix Salon, I was not disappointed! Veronica takes a lot of time with her customers, in order to determine how best to fulfill their needs. She is great at providing colors and styles that give clients what they want, while at the same time adding her own artistic flair. When she colors my hair, she is able to find a mix that works well with my skin tone and coloring. When the roots grow out, they blend so well with Veronica’s color that they are hardly noticeable! Bonus: Santa Cruz’s Main Beach and Wharf are just a short walk from the salon, so if you feel like heading to the ocean after you get your hair done, it’s an easy trip.

When it comes to getting my hair cut, I tend not to change stylists very often, so when I find someone with skills, I stick with them. I have been going to Veronica for years, and the reasons I do are very simple — cut, customer service, and consistency.
Cut — This is where Veronica truly shines! My Asian hair is coarse, and not the easiest to work with. As a result, I need a skilled scissors cut to tame it. Veronica has years of experience and training that helps her evaluate the most flattering style for me, and then works her magic with her advanced scissors skills. She’s also a perfectionist, checking from every angle, and taking her time to make sure nothing is missed.
Customer service — Veronica excels in this respect by offering a lot of courtesies, most I don’t even expect. She offers a refreshing beverage upon my arrival, and remembers to refresh it without prompting. She offers a great scalp massage during every shampoo, and takes her time with it. It’s so relaxing, I almost fall asleep sometimes. She even offers to put quarters into the parking meter (but I’ve never taken her up on it).
Consistency — With Veronica, there is no second guessing. She respects the style I want, makes observations, and courteously offers suggestions to improve it (sometimes I take them). She pays attention to detail, listening to my concerns and making sure to incorporate them into the cut. And she approaches her work with humor, infectious enthusiasm and supreme professionalism, which her staff (Jeni, Vida) clearly emulates.
With her focus on these three C’s, it’s no wonder I return to her. I never mind driving over the hill to go to Sheenix. Veronica makes me feel so relaxed about getting my hair cut, that I feel like I’m spending time with a friend.

I have tried so many hair stylists before and believe me Veronica is the winner on many different levels. Today I just had for the second time a hair cut, color and highlights with her. Veronica is just the best. She got the skills to cut, color and blow dry your hair. I was so tired of having my hair to always look yellowish and brassy. Veronica just applied her magic on me to make it go away. I now have a very natural and gorgeous hair color just the way I wanted.
She also has a very good cutting hair technique. It looks very polish, healthy, modern and current and I mean it. I was even complimented today when I was having a pedi. The women seating next to me told me: «I noticed your hair when I walked in and I thought they look real nice». Doesn’t it say it all?
The hair salon is very cozy and you feel like home.
I know how difficult it is to find a gem when your hair is concerned. I found it and it’s Veronica. She makes me feel pretty, good (inside and out), happy and confident. I can’t recommend her enough. At least you should give it a try. She is a very good listener and she delivers. I wish all women and girls in Santa Cruz and over the hill would discover Veronica. The word is out there now :-). Too bad she might now get too busy that I will have to book months ahead of time but you know what it’s already happening ;-).

Vida is a brilliant stylist and colorist. Can’t get over my luck of finding her at my first attempt at finding a stylist in Santa Cruz. Great eye, precise cut, shiny color while in a super relaxed setting. Feel confident that your expectations will be exceeded even if you are not quite sure what you want at the chair. Each time that she has blown out my hair, it lasts at least 2 days! Awesome.

Though it’s been said here time and time again, this place is really fantastic! I had a haircut with Jeni, and she did an amazing job (with very ambiguous/​unhelpful directions from me, I might add). She really seemed to put a lot of thought into it, and was super meticulous in her execution. Her attention to detail was amazing; she spent SO much time going back and perfecting every little section! You can tell that she really takes pride in her work. On top of all that, she was super friendly and easy to talk to. I think I’ve found my go-​to salon.

After reading past reviews, I decided to meet with Veronica for a consult.
From the moment we talked on the phone, she was engaged and made me feel comfortable.
During our consultation, Veronica took her time getting to know me, my history with past stylists, and my expectations. I really appreciated her listening to me, and asking for clarification about what I wanted.
I have recently relocated to Santa Cruz, and though I love my past stylist, it wasn’t realistic to drive 3 – 4 hours one way to see her.
I am so pleased to say that Veronica colored my hair yesterday and it looks beautiful. She went over all we had discussed at the consultation appointment, she educated me along the way regarding her plan, and she made me feel relaxed and important. I left the salon with lovely looking color, and she did an excellent job blending the new highlights with a grown-​out Ombré (6 months-​plus of new root growth).
I am thrilled with my hair, and I am so thankful to past reviewers for recommending Veronica!

Veronica is amazing. I wish i could just copy and paste that sentence 1000 times for this review. She does everything from wash, to cut, to color, to blow dry.
The wash+scalp massage alone is worth the entire bill. it’s such a relaxing experience.
I had highlights in my hair about a year ago, and they grew out so naturally, i didnt have to dye anything over them. accidental ombré effect :)
Also the cut grew out amazingly too! i am not one to take care of myself (salon wise) so it takes me about a year to get my hair cut. my cut grew out salon perfect for a year!
Highly recommended. Also natalie at the reception desk is so nice and organized! I feel like family going to sheenix.

Chris likes to work with curly hair but only works on Tuesdays. He cut my «boticelli» curls and gave me the cutest bangs ever! He is very sweet and present, listening to your ideas and concerns. My husband is excited to get his curly hair cut from him now too… Highly recommended from a curly girl who has received one-​too-​many bad haircuts! :)

Such a great salon! I had been referred to Veronica by a friend after unsuccessfully trying a number of other salons and stylists in Santa Cruz. Veronica was great and made sure to understand what I had, wanted, and where I wanted my cut and style to go. Although I couldn’t articulate it perfectly, she was able to interpret what I wanted and it turned out better than the picture I had in my head. She spent extra time making sure it was right even though I was her last client on a Saturday afternoon :)
On top of all of that, she’s energetic and fun. I would recommend Veronica and Sheenix Salon to anyone!

I can’t say enough nice things about Veronica! She’s been doing my hair for over 2 years now. I make the effort to drive over the hill from San Jose to see her because the quality is out of this world.
After a cut, the shape lasts for 8+ weeks (which has never happened in my life). Plus I get compliments on my highlights all the time. I love that she listens to me about what color/​highlights I want (natural looking) and never tries to push me into something that is too hard or expensive to maintain.
She’s so easy going and personable too. I am a client for life!

This review is mostly for Veronica McRae of Sheenix Salon as we used her for our wedding last October 2011. From the minute we reached out to her, she was incredibly warm, inviting, and professional.
I knew the minute I got off the phone with Veronica after our first consultation that we had secured the perfect stylist for our wedding. We were wanting a very old Hollywood glamor look to the entire event, and Veronica was excited from the get go about this theme. She provided suggestions and feedback that were spot on, and spent time getting extra training so that our looks were perfected. One of my bridesmaids and I went down to her salon in Santa Cruz a few months prior to the event for a trial run, and we couldn’t have been happier with the services we received. It was like hanging out with an old friend who makes you feel welcome and comfortable. She was knowledgeable and creative, giving some suggestions that were just what we needed to perfect the looks we were going for.
On the day of the event she showed up on time, and worked tirelessly for hours all morning getting everyone in the wedding party to look amazing. She was able to work with each individual’s unique hair style (everyone had their own retro glam look) and was encouraging and fun the entire time. I cannot help but feel her expertise and talent were a HUGE part of making our wedding such a success (cause everyone looked so damn good).
I wish Veronica and Sheenix Salon were in San Francisco cause I would be heading there every few weeks to get my hair done. She’s that good. Definitely recommended!

I went here as the website said they had specific training in cutting men’s hair. I had a medium cut on the longish side and wanted to keep a medium cut on the shortish side. I was fairly specific on what I wanted but open to ideas. When I left, I had not just short, short hair but an uneven cut with some spots nearly bald from being hacked at by a texturizing razor. My wife cried when I walked in the door. I have had better haircuts at supercuts. All haircutters will do their own thing to an extent but sheesh, don’t completely ignore the client instructions and leave an uneven cut.

I have never, in my life, had a consistent hairdresser. I bounce, from place to place, probably because I move so much. At any rate, I would drive many many miles to come get my haircut here by Jeni. She was pleasant, friendly, warm and did a kickass job on my haircut without me even saying much. It was like, she already knew what I wanted!
I also came with a friend who has a four year old, and they were super good with her, even when she started getting antsy. she got a haircut and tinsel in her hair, so adorable!
And the prices are super reasonable — wash/​haircut/​style for $ 55. I also got colored extensions for $ 10/​extension. I am so glad I found this place

Yay! I love Veronica and Sheenix!
Veronica has been cutting my hair forever. Before her I would wander from one hairdresser to the next, never fully and consistently satisfied with the service. I’d get one or two good haircuts, then a crappy one, and I’d leave. Or, I’d discover that the stylist was good at only one thing, and not able to change as my style did.
No more flitting about for me! Veronica is awesome. She is great at cutting hair, fun to talk to, and has a great sense of style. Plus, if anything should (rarely) be not quite right, she will fix it no problem. She really cares that her clients leave happy.

This is the only hair salon I have ever felt comfortable at and I love everyone who works here! Veronica, Jeni and Shavonne are awesome and I love the vibe in this place.
I’ve been going here since I moved to the area in March 2010 and I absolutely love it!
I have really difficult hair. It is fine and super curly and will not grow because I am addicted to the flat-​iron and hair extensions. Shavonne recently gave me a keratin smoothing treatment that makes my AIR DRY bone straight. I am not even kidding, it’s unreal. She also does my color every now and then when I feel like it and I will be going to her for the keratin every 3 months on the dot– I love it! I’m also getting extensions from her later today and some crazy cool tinsel strands. I have a feeling that my hair will be growing a lot now– I sold my flat-​iron :)

I am a guy. And I am *not* into spending money for looking good. Well, the Barbers in this town seem to have only learned to use a clipper, and charge $ 20. I may have to add that I am from Germany, Barbers and Hairdresser are the same and have to pass a 3 year college education, shop owners an additional 2 years. So I realised that I am a bit spoiled.
As I mentioned before, I am don’t like to spend much money on beauty, but after trying nearly every barber in town and ending up with a little-​boys haircut, I made an appointment with Jenny.
Man, she gave me the best haircut I ever had. On top of being a great stylist I also enjoy talking to her very much, she is an excellent conversationalist.
All the girls in the saloon are super cute and friendly, I definitely recommend it to all my friends.
