Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Medium priced, but quality merchandise. The lumber yard self load is great

Customer service isn’t what it was. It’s hard to find someone who’ll tell you where to look. When you finally do find someone, they’re courteous. But it’s not convenient. Some of the help, sorry to say, know much less about hardware in general than others. Look for the old guys.

Always awesome interesting, unusual hardware found here. Very nice people, well organized, easy parking. Does not have that big box store thing going for it. Only wish they were closer to me.

My wife, who is a glass artist, when to the River Street location looking for some sand-free grout to use on a glass tile backsplash. I listened in on the conversation she had with the employee she asked for help. Bottom line is that he was rude(«you belong at an arts and crafts store»), sexist(«you should get a gentleman to help you»), and condescending. We have gone to San Lorenzo for many years for a variety of needs and the quality of their customer service has steadily gone down, but this is the very last straw. Generally horrible service. Standing in line, with one woman in front of me. Employees behind the counter are having conversations, ignoring the customers in line. Finally, one male clerk looks at the woman in front of me, but says nothing. She says hi to him, and he replies by tapping the counter(in other words, come over here and put your stuff on the counter in front of me). Another female clerk finally stops her conversation, looks at me,(as now I’m the first in line, holding a box of screws) and asks«Are you ready?» Hmmm, let me think about that for a second… I’ve been standing in line for a couple of minutes, waiting to pay… I guess the correct answer was yes, I’m ready.

Customer service is great and they are very knowledgable and explain everything to me. I don’t feel intimated as a female in a building supply store like I do lost in Home Depot. Shout out to John the sprinkler guy who helped me with fixing my sprinkler system. So nice and patient with his explanations. Extremely knowledgable!

I like coming here, the people are friendly, and everyone seems to know each other. Prices are ok, but I got some easy tips on how to fix a few things myself that helped out. The checkout is the only thing that is less efficient than it could be.

the customer service at this place rules. everyone has always been so helpful and patient and knew exactly where to find what i needed. i come here about twice a week for misc. bits and fasteners and peach gummies(which are a «house favorite» as told to me by an employee). one time i was an idiot and had some workers pull $ 200+ worth of lumber for me through a calculation error, PAIDFORIT even though i knew it was way more than i needed and absolutely way more than i could afford(i was immobilized by shock at the sight of the totals at the register and in a daze handed my card over anyway. idiot.). i stood next to my pile of wood about to have a heart attack when an older gentleman sensed my distress and came to my rescue. he helped me calculate what i needed($ 30 of lumber) and got me back to the reg to return the stock. the lady at the register was so nice, she apologized to ME for the trouble. i was in shock because i was the one causing all the trouble, and the return seemed complicated because it involved multiple departments .i think i had a *moment* when she said that to me, like i was near tears and in disbelief that people in this world are actually kind. oh and they have a lil samovar of coffee for their customers weeeee

Went after work to buy a hinge, but the manager had special requirements: No backpacks in the store. They don’t have secured storage or something else to leave my laptop and I had to leave it on the floor close to the cash register or to not go in the store. Treating somebody like a thief because of a backpack … who do you think you are ? The store is convenient, but some things are way overpriced on top of that the staff is not very helpful. I like much more OSH on 41st where you can always count that somebody will help you or Home Depot where the prices are way better.

This place has gone through several different names(San Lorenzo Lumber, Lumbermans) but it hasn’t changed much. ProBuild is pretty huge, and they have almost everything. There is a garden nursery right next store which is worth checking out as well.
