The guys at the shop were super nice and I didn’t feel intimidated like I do going into some other bike shops.

This bike shop is a great deal and is a good place to go for used parts and new alike. It’s a family run bike shop and the son does a great job, however the father gets very easily frustrated.

The night before we took our son to UC Santa Cruz to begin his second year of school, his bike was stolen from our back yard in Sacramento. We decided to head down to Santa Cruz to see what we could buy. My son looked up local bike shops on his phone and the prices were high. We saw recycled bikes of Santa Cruz and thought we would give it a shot. It is a small place and a father and son team. They are very skilled craftsmen. I told them what I needed — simple bike to ride up and back to campus — and shared with them my price range — up to $ 200. In the end, they completely reconditioned a bike they had on site, new gears, tires and adjusted the brakes. They fitted the bike to my son. As it turns out, we had been buying the wrong size. They also gave him directions so that if the bike has any problems he can come back and they will help. We picked out a bike, went out to lunch and came back to pick it up. All finished in about 2 hours. My final total was $ 120.

I sued this business in Small Claims Court and won. Let’s hope this dead beat business owner pays me the $ 255 he owes.

I heard about this shop from my sister and brother, who swear by Jim and Mike for every bike problem they have. I’m generally skeptical of bike shops; they seem to charge much more, and find more problems, than is justified. But this place is just incredible. First, I bought an Italian road bike here for around $ 300. Jim told me that he was just trying to move it, and that he was giving me a good price. Usually that’s just puffery. But after I bought it, I checked craig’s list and found the same bike for $ 500! Second, I brought the bike in a few times afterwards for minor maintenance. EVERY time, Jim refused to take my money. Third, I was hit by a car a few weeks ago and had to have the fork, tire, and a few other things completely replaced with new parts. I figured this would be a few hundred dollars. Mike(Jim’s son… it’s a father and son shop) only charged me $ 100, for a couple hours of work, and $ 80 in parts. What?!? Honestly, the only criticism I have of Jim and Mike is that they are so concerned about their customers that I sometimes wonder if they are actually getting paid as much as they deserve… Go to this bike shop! You will not regret it.

This place is amazing. I read through some reviews looking for a good bike shop at a reasonable price and other than the bike church(who’s hours were inconvenient for my work schedule) this seemed like a good place to try. And my trust in Unilocal definitely paid off. They are great! Just bought a bike that had been sitting out and got a bit rusted up. It needed a tune up and some things replaced. They were really good about not bullsh**ing me with extra things I didn’t need to do with the bike. The prices were more than fair and they were friendly and helpful. Even spent time answering my various odd questions about biking in SC and helped me adjust the seat and handle bars. Now my new(used) bike runs great and its a pleasure to have something to ride around town. I will definitely take a little extra time to haul my bike out to Soquel and 7th to drop it off with people you can trust, who don’t charge you an arm and a leg, do the work efficiently, and who will help you put the bike back into your car without scratching it. Thank you so much! You were amazing!!!

I walked in the other day looking for a bike to get me to and fro my classes at school, and the worker said he had a bike that was almost finished, and that I should come back the next day for it. I was pleased, because for all I cared I could have waited a week, I was in no rush. So I called the next day, and he had no idea what bike I was talking about. When he finally figured it out, he told me that it’d be ready the next day, saying they were having a really busy day. Not at all upset and very lenient, I said alright. So I called back the next day, and once again, it wasn’t ready and said he was busy with prior obligations and that he would call me in a couple hours when it was ready. He never called. And since I’m tired of disappointment and excuses for deadlines that I wasn’t even setting, I won’t be calling back either.

They provide WOW service. My bike had been sitting outside all winter and had two flats so I walked it over to this place and asked for an overall tuneup. Work done: –Two new tubes, installed –New kickstand, installed –Cleaned the chain –Replaced the ball berrings I was ready to pay $ 80+ for all of that so I was shocked when the tab was only $ 30! My bike rides better than it ever has thanks to RB of SC. I will never go to another bike shop. Note: They don’t take credit cards but do take checks. Another note: They don’t sell bike helmets but have/sell everything that is actually on the bike.

This local owned-and-operated gem should be placed as a Historical Preservation site not just because it’s a pink garage on the corner of 7th and Bostwick just south of Soquel Ave., but because it secures our joy for cycling — and does it affordably. After finding a gem of a classic Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike for my kid through Craigslist, I knew it needed some refurb to not just give it a proper beating with my kid on the trails, but to avoid one from my wife(to whom«rust» means«dump»). Recycled Bikes fixed it up, replaced some components, and got us on our way for a VERY fair price. Give them a call.
