I was just driving to make a run to Sams Club and while heading down Golden Valley I noticed a huge yellow banner and a hot air balloon with the words ‘Going Out Of Business’ and I was in shock! This is where I bought most of my furniture when I relocated here to SoCal two years ago when this new location first opened. Then I realized I never Unilocaled the place either. Homemakers is like one big Disneyland for furniture. The place is huge! When you first come in you see these animated characters talking at you kind of like the old Country Bear Jamboree or Hall of Presidents. Only this is the Hall of Furniture. There are various themed demo rooms. Even one with an arcade in it. I guess since this is such a family area, it gives the kids something to do while the folks shop. What really surprised me were the prices since I expected everything to be super-expensive but that was not the case. Most furniture here is pretty affordable and still of high quality. Maybe that was their eventual downfall. With so many furniture stores in the area(one on Soleadad Canyon recently closed and an unfinished furniture store closed earlier in ’07 off Sierra Highway) and a Wickes just opened a few yards away, it probably meant that Homemakers couldn’t keep up with it’s huge amount of rent and trying to unload all the inventory they had to sell. So unless this is one big PR stunt, Homemakers is toast but if you’re planning to buy furniture now, I suggest you go there since the deals should be really good.
