Sad that its last day is Friday October 30. I enjoy hanging with my friends over Mexican food on Friday nights.

First time here and I got a wet(enchilada sauce) steak burrito with sour cream, guacamole, black beans, lettuce, mild salsa(some ingredients cost extra such as sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and others). Yes I was starving. The burrito was really good! I definitely recommend it. The meat was good, I think I’m gonna try the chicken next time though. Anyway, I also got a small soda and the cost of my whole meal was about $ 14 which is pretty good for the size of the burrito and the free chips I got. I was only able to eat half of my meal. Customer service was friendly and efficient. I will definitely come back here, especially on Mondays because they have a 20% off deal when you bring your SCUID!

This is the place you go to grab food after you go somewhere else and it fails– too much money and not enough food or didn’t taste good. Or just go here before you waste your time. Good, cheap, yummy, comfort food. Don’t go to this place looking for the most authentic Mexican food. This is delicious California-Mexican food. And free wi-fi! Wish they were open late.

.39 for black olives! Gotta love that! . The layout is nice comfortable and the service is good… burritos good but not a rave quality. I do like the way they laid out the menu with simple optional condiments and sides to mix and match. You can actually get your food the way you want it here! It’s a good place to go if your on The Alameda and wanting Mexican food! There are however lot’s of better choices I think if your willing to travel for food!

I’m an American of Mexican decent. I was invited to this place by a Caucasian friend(that should’ve been my 1st clue). Unfortunately the food was extremely bland. I think it’s a white person’s idea of what Mexican food – which is fine if it’s tasty, but sadly it was not. Everything from the rice to the beans/meat & salsa were all very flavorless and bland. The chips were good and my kids like their churro. The customer service was a’ight. The place is in SERIOUS need of a deep clean. The dining area is carpeted and it smells like soda that spilled over a decade ago. Just take a look at the spigot on the water cooler dispenser — it’s caked in black grime. I’d be interested in culturing it to see what grow in the lab. I don’t want to diss this place too badly because it’s a local business – but if it plans on surviving against Chipotle it really needs to step up its game. Otherwise, it’s only going to be kept afloat by hungry, un-picky local college students looking to get the most of their access cards.

If you’re looking for a genuine taqueria experience, this place is not it. I knew I was in trouble when I walked in and saw a large steam table counter with no overhead boards showing taco’s and burritos. Moving forward… I ordered two carnitas tacos. They asked if I wanted corn or flour, I thought to myself, who the heck orders taqueria tacos with flour tortillas ??? Order with corn of course… The carnitas meat in the steam table tray looked appetizing. I got my taco’s in short order, with a pile of freshly made chips. I put a little of their hottest salsa from their salsa bar on my taco’s. Sat down, lifted up my my first taco, took my first bite. I immediately notices that the corn tortilla was practically uncooked. Right after my second bite, the interior payload of my taco fell through the tortilla like a wet paper bag. Extremely disappointing. I had to eat my second taco like a freaking oyster. The overall taste profile of the taco’s were just okay. Nothing stood out. No defined flavor profile. The tortillas barely touched the grill. While the chips were served freshly made, they tasted like the oil was a little old. I made some visual observations of the place. I get it. It’s a taco/burrito place a couple blocks away from SCU. So they feed students on the cheap and have ½ priced drinks on Fridays… but why on earth would you have carpet in the dining room of a college feeding and drinking joint. Please, put in some laminate floors — that worn carpet is nasty as has got to go. I did not see them weigh my portion as others have mentioned here. If I would have seen this, I would have found it discouraging. I know a restaurant needs to have portion control, but measuring portions in a taco/burrito place is kind of a turn off(after all, it’s not Togo’s). I will say that the staff was nice and made me feel welcomed. Based on my poor taco experience, and the fact that Mondo burrito is basically a white-washed taco/burrito place, I would not come back here again.

Me and a Mexican friend thought to pop in for a bite after we found this to be the closet place to where we were. I kid you not it was the most unhygienic and the food was disgusting. We will not recommend nor visit this place again.

This is my favorite burrito place. The food is great and reasonably priced, they serve alcohol, the wifi is fast AND some of their booth seats have power. Great place to get some food and some work done.

HOLYCALIFORNIABURRITOGOODNESS!!! Probably my favorite place to have a California burrito! I can’t even describe the tastes, it’s just THAT amazing you have to come try it yourself. The fries are just so perfect with the burrito. Everyone there is always in a good mood and I wish I could have this everyday without feeling guilty. Sad they’re not open on Sundays though!

Small whole wheat tortilla with brown rice, black beans, steak, guac, lettuce, and olives… was so delicious!!! Churros were spot on! Love the healthier options! :)

Cheap and simple, with welcoming staff. No vegetarian option in terms of a meat-substitute like tofu, however.

They were out of the shredded beef, had carnitas instead… found a hair in it, a long coarse dark hair. never had an issue there before, but that was SUPER disgusting, we used to eat here all the time, probably won’t go back now… cause BLARG. Chucked the remainder and left, way too grossed out.

This place is alright, nothing better or nothing worst. Mediocre you can say. All the stuff is already made with heat underneath it to keep warm. Almost like a buffet. I prefer my food made when I order it. The prices are decent. I don’t come here too often unless a buddy wants to. The staff are pretty nice and the place is clean.

I use Mondo Burrito for catering on the average of once every other month, they are on my regular rotation. My team is always happy when we have Mondo, the food is excellent, portions size is typically more than we need, and they deliver, set up and pick up. I have also referred them to other EA: s at my company, with high remarks from them as well. Steve has also put together happy hour menus for me in the past, and catered a 300 person Cinco de Mayo party.

We love this place. It’s close enough to home so we can walk to it. The patio makes it dog friendly. Have noticed the protein portions are getting smaller.

This is my cousin’s proclaimed favorite Mexican joint. Steps away from SCU lies an amazing little Mexican restaurant. It’s cafeteria style, you order, they make it, you pay and find a seat. There’s no food delivery to your table. I got a small wheat burrito with carnitas(special of the day), black beans, Spanish rice, lettuce, garden salsa and cilantro. Who would have thought my order would result in a MONSTER burrito? Not me. They provide tortilla chips with your order and there’s a spot where you can grab different kinds of salsa for your chips after you pay. My mondo burrito was delicious. Extremely large and I felt ridiculously full after. An amazing value for $ 5.25. There’s a ton of cafeteria style seating with large screen tvs all over. It’s a perfect spot for the college kids. SCU students can bring their access card for 20% on Mondays. Mondo Burrito is aptly named for those with mondo appetites!

When I came here I was expecting to get this«Mondo» burrito that was big enough to feed 23 hungry hippos. My belly determined… That was a lie. I come here and order the big sized meat burrito and it seemed to be a good deal for the price, til I saw how small it was. Now the one my hot date got was just a bean and cheese and hers was easily twice the size of mine. The guy that threw hers together just added layers and layers, the dude that put mine together was weighing everything out to the gram. He must have not known that it was my cheat meal. The place itself is run down and old. If you look at the machinery and the assembly line, you almost second guess your choice to come here. There is a salsa bar and a soda fountain which is nice since some places don’t allow refills. There is outside seating for the nice summer days The people were nice, although the cashier seemed like he was over it. The people that come here are mostly college students. They do cater to them by offering cheap beers and margaritas on Friday nights. forgot to say that they also charge for cheese.

With a name like MONDO Burrito, I’d expect this place to have monster-sized burritos that give all others a run for their frijoles. Sadly, Mondo Burrito failed to live up to the hype. FOOD:(2 stars) — — — — — — — — — — Typically with a super burrito you get all the fixin’s included in the price. Not here. A large Mondo Burrito is $ 7.39, but guac($ 0.99), cheese($ 0.69) and sour cream($ 0.59) cost extra. That means to make the equivalent of a $ 7 or $ 8 super burrito that you’d get elsewhere, you’d pay almost $ 10 here. No bueno! The meat was also not cooked to order. In that sense, this place is very much a Chipotle-like fast food joint, where all the ingredients are already prepped and they just throw everything together in front of you. I wouldn’t mind that so much, if it weren’t for the fact that my chicken was a bit dry. Fortunately, the wife’s California Burrito(carne asada with fries in a burrito) was much better. That was the daily special for $ 7 and also included extras like gauc! One thing I liked was that they give you a side of chips with each item ordered, not one side for each group of people like some places do. Unfortunately, the salsa didn’t do me justice. The Mongo Fire salsa wasn’t that hot, but just didn’t taste good. The medium salsa tasted a bit sour. This was probably the only time I’ve ever not finished all my chips and salsa. AMBIANCE:(4 stars) — — — — — — — — — — Loved the book exchange shelf at the front of the restaurant. This place being so close to the SCU campus, it sort of makes sense to have something like this. Tables were clean and the restaurant was spacious, and there’s even a quaint outdoor eating area surrounded by plants that would be great to use during the day. SERVICE:(3 stars) — — — — — — — — — — The older guy taking my wife’s order didn’t understand English, not even when she said«California Burrito»(which is the same in Spanish). So he sent another guy over to help us. Well despite that guy being fluent in English, I had a lot of trouble communicating with him too. Since I didn’t want to add guac for more money, I asked for more peppers and onions instead, and the guy said I’d be charged extra before saying that I wouldn’t be charged extra. Uh, what? At least the lady at checkout was nice. We had a Groupon($ 20 for $ 10) and our final total was $ 20.80 including tax. The Groupon wasn’t supposed to cover tax, but she took it and said forget about the 80 cents. Pretty cool of her. OVERALL:(2.5 stars) — — — — — — — — — — Good: California Burrito, especially when it’s the daily special Not so good: Chicken burrito was average, and the salsa tasted weird Rounded up to 3 stars for the Groupon value: $ 10 for the burritos and a couple other items wasn’t too shabby
