Where do I start with this restaurant. From interior to service and to the food everything was spot on. As a native Korean I have eaten at many famous places in Korea and in LA and I can definitely say that jang su jang is up there with the top. I went on a Saturday dinner with a couple of friends to check about the hype and boy were we amazed. We came around dinner time and waited a good 40 minutes for a barbecue seat but it was worth the wait. We ordered the yangnyum galbi and the kkotsal and those were the two best meats I have had at a Korean restaurant in awhile. The meat was really juicy and the kkotsal was melt in your mouth good! They gave us a set of 8 banchan in the beginning and each and everyone of them were delicious! If you guys are ever in the area looking for a good Korean barbecue place you guys HAVE to check this place out.

YUMMM! KOREANNNNFOOOD! I haven’t had korean food in a while, so I was really happy to come here at a friend’s suggestion while in South Bay. We came with a group of 6 and were able to secure a 8pm reservation the day before. Not bad! We ordered: 1. Galbi — I would choose galbi over any other kbbq meat. It used to be bulgogi. but now its galbi all day, every day. This was well marinated, ordered a la carte, and great size for the cost. We ordered 3 orders for 6 people and it was wayyyyyyyyyy too much! 2. Galbi Jjim — Braised Short Ribs — Hands down, the BEST dish of the night. The meat was soft/tender and not dry at all. It was also fatty and therefore delicious! 3. Mandoo Soondubu — Dumplings in Tofu stew — The dumplings were very interesting and were like little tiny wontons instead of the ling ling’s I’ve seen people throw into tofu stew. Definitely didn’t feel like you were getting lots of dumpling, BUT the tofu stew was delicious. B ordered it extra spicy and he was very happy with it.(He doesn’t even like tofu stew!) 4. Japchae — This was pretty standard and didn’t really stand out to me for the night. maybe it was cuz everything else was too yummy! 5. Haemuelpajeon — Seafood Pancake! This was one of the better ones I’ve ever had. It was super crispy and the batter was fluffy. Definitely recommended! Overall great experience here! they were super efficient and all the ladies who helped us were super nice. We’ll definitely be back when we’re back in the area and craving Korean food!

1. Went there for a DIY grill, server did not speak a word to us, not even a smile. 2.I like the meat well done, but they insisted on turning grill off! 3 I saw this guy with apron on(from kitchen i guess) roaming around in the toilet talking on the phone for 20 minutes. 4. They sit us near the register/kitchen, although i asked for some other table closer to the entrance, manger said it is easier to serve you here(we do not wantto walk to your table — but, hell yes you have to leave a tip) 5. used plates were piling up in a bin in front of the restroom, no one took care of them as long as i was there(an hour)

Since I was in the Santa Clara area with my girlfriend, we were craving Korean food and found the restaurant Jang Su Jang. There we ordered L.A. Gailbi, Seafood and Beef Tofu Soup which also comes with banchan(sides) whenever you order. We also ordered extra rice and the total should be around $ 37. Coming into this, we had a certain expectation of what we wanted when it came to Korean food because of our past experience in another restaurant. When you get the sides, there should be 8 of them and 6 out of 8 were enjoyable to eat. However, I wished their Kimchi(one of their sides) would have been more spicy because it definitely lacked in that department. When I had my first bite of the L.A. Galbi, it was really good and when it came out, it was still sizzling which is a plus for me. The meat with the rice and sides really complimented each other and was really tasty! For the soup, to me, it was mediocre but it could be better with more of a kick to it. Now you’re thinking if I will come back? I will come back and give this restaurant another chance because the little things can be fixed and it will taste better. Just note that this restaurant is on the expensive side and also far from where I live but if you’re in the area, give it a try!

There was no line last Saturday when we went around 4pm. Lucky us! We had a spicy beef dumpling soup and veggie dolsot bibimbop. The appetizers were great and plenty, I especially loved the Korean sweet potato one, even got it refilled. The waitress was attentive, and food was good. I was stuffed off of the bibimbop, even without the meat(trying to be vegetarian). It was so much, I skipped dinner altogether. Overall, we are glad to come back again and again.

Where in the world does one get a pink taco; its wrap made of thinly-sliced radish soaked in beet juice? Inside, a slice of steamed pork topped off with yet more boldly-red, pickled radish and fermented shrimp await to enter your mouth. In terms of shape they may resemble Mexican tacos. Korean pink tacos are smaller in comparison. You combine the ingredients yourself at the dining table. Their proper name? Bossam(). And they aren’t always pink. Thinly-sliced white radish, napa cabbage and sesame leaves are also used as wraps. Jang Su Jang offers an extensive list of classic Korean dishes and has some of the best Japchae I have munched on in the neighborhood. My mother and I agree the Korean Parsley side dish is our favorite banchan as it isn’t salty nor spicy. It possesses a perfect amount of seasoning. We find the side dishes in Koreatown San Jose tend to be prepared too sweetly, so we appreciate when there’s minimal sugar.
We order one serving of the Bossam Jungsik(). As petite females, you can make two servings out of it! Wow. It’s like a buy one get one free deal. To balance out the protein, my mother and I order the not-so-interesting Dotolee Yachaeguksoo(). These acorn noodles tossed with vegetables and soy sauce dressing are not too tasty, but are functional. The greens serve as an intermission from them pork slices. Jang Su Jang is said to be one of the more popular Korean restaurants in Koreatown San Jose. No worries if you have to wait. Kpop music videos play on two television screens in the lobby to help pass the time.

This place used to be so solid. They’re a sell-out now, and cater to non-Korean palates = over-sauced and max sodium levels. If you want Americanized Korean food, or need to introduce someone to Korean food — this would be it. The demographics have drastically changed to everything else but its origins.

A solid 3.5: while the food isn’t as good as the Milpitas location IMO, the service is impeccable! Make a reservation because it gets busy! It’s slightly more cramped here, because nearly an entire wall is made up of private rooms. The employees have headsets and are quick to call each other up when customers need something. The seafood pancake did not come out as piping hot as I wished, but still very yummy! I will come here if in the area, but I won’t go out of my way for it.

Delicious food and really quick service. Definitely make a reservation in advance before you go, because its guaranteed there will be a wait. We came here as a group of 4 on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. But rightfully so, because the food was AWESOME. We ordered two servings of the marinated galbi to share and I got the mixed soon tofu stew. Our meal came out with a good number of side dishes and relatively quickly(food was out in less than 10 minutes after ordering). All of the food was tasty. I really enjoyed my stew. There was tons of flavor and a decent amount of seafood. The meat was also very tender and had a good marinade on it. Service, honestly, wasn’t really memorable. It was kind of a whirlwind with all of the side dishes, rice, entrees, changing of the wire trays for cooking meat and additional ad hoc requests coming at different times during our dining experience. But we always seemed to have everything we needed, and I never felt we were lacking anything. Definitely be sure to check it out.

This place is legit. Their Kalbi is boneless and comes in a slab. Fair warning though, it’s definitely quality over quantity here. The prices for meat is high and the portions are small, but the quality of the meat is there. I think it was about $ 40 for the kalbi and there were only two or three pieces. For 3 people our bill came out to $ 200, so it was not a cheap meal. If you’re looking for Korean BBQ that’s all you can eat, better to go to Palace. But if you’re ok with higher prices and a la carte, this place is worth a try. It’s probably more worth it to come in a big group so at least you can try more things. For smaller groups, it can get pretty expensive.

Been here twice now and I want to say my second experience did not really differ much from my first… First of all, this place is SO expensive. A bowl of noodles/soup is around $ 14 – 15, tofu soup $ 12, and meats…$$$. Do not come here for their kbbq if you are either(1) hungry(2) unwilling to splurge. I believe the cheapest meat plate(cook-it-yourself) is around $ 52? My family and I came here(party of 4) and ordered an entrée each, and the seafood pancake appetizer(~$ 17) and the total came out to be about $ 100(after tax and tip ~$ 120). I am lost for words… Now the food. I got the seafood kalguksoo(hand-made/chef-cut noodles) previous time, so this time decided to try the Wang Manduguksoo(King dumpling egg soup w/rice cakes). There were only 3 large dumplings and barely any rice cakes. The dumpling fillings and soup were very bland, and overall a very one-dimensional taste. The seafood pancakes were bland as well – not much octopus/tako, green onions(which is a necessity in any good korean pancake), and mostly batter. Only plus was that it was a good fluffy texture(not too doughy), and the bottom had a nice crisp to it. My mom ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap, dad the Bulgogi soup pot, and brother the Beef/Seafood Soontofu. All of us were very disappointed – flavor was bland, again. Only compliments go to the banchan(side dishes), which were unlimited and flavorful – our favorites were the sweet potato, japchae(clear glass noodle), and spicy radish. Maybe because I’ve been to more authentic and inexpensive spots in LA’s Koreatown, but this place was very average.

I love Korean BBQ, whether it’s the individual entrée to the all you can eat. I used to not want to go to Korean BBQ places because I thought SD and LA had the best, but I was wrong. My boyfriend and I came here last month and ordered 2 entrees. We ordered the bulgogi and seafood soon tofu soup. The waitress brought multiple sides, I think around 6. I enjoyed half of them, but they did not have my favorite fish paste that I am usually given in SD. However, they have this apple cream side that I really like. And I like the tea they serve. The places in SD and LA do not offer free tea, unlike this place. The tea is brewed perfectly. As for entrees, the bulgogi is okay, slightly on the sweeter side(and I have a sweet tooth, so that means it is too sweet). However, the seafood soon tofu soap was amazing! The soup is hands down better than my favorite SD joint. It is full of flavors — the tofu is soft, there is a variety of seafood but mainly shrimp and clams, and the soup itself is seasoned well. The soup isn’t salty; rather, it is a little sweet from the seafood. The second time I came here with friends, I ordered the seafood soon tofu soup again and it tasted like the first time. Delicious and satisfying. I will be back again :)

Um, wow. This was pretty pricey. The food was tasty, but the portion sizes and flavor were not a good reflection of the pricing involved. I got the dolsot bibimbap, which was $ 14. Flavorful, but skimpy on the beef and much smaller portions than other places I’ve been to. The bulgogi was $ 18 or $ 19 and was not the heartiest portion. Once we paid, we wanted to stay a bit longer and keep our conversation going. But we were getting some Korean side eye from the staff. Overall, not too bad. But… there are probably other places that are more affordable in the area!

We wanted Korean food and decided via Unilocal this might be a great spot. It’s on the pricier side but totally worth it. The service is great and at the end they give the yogurt drinks, my favorite! If you are in for some more treats, make a pit stop to the shaved ice place in the korean indoor plaza.

Jang Su Jang’s Korean BBQ is delectable! Their meat is flavorful, juicy, and most importantly… FRESH. We ordered Bulgogi, Seng Galbi, and Pork Belly. The quality of the meat was great, and you can tell by the color and texture of the meat. This BBQ place isn’t a place where you cook the meat yourself, so unfortunately the lady that was helping us overcooked the Pork Belly. Another drawback is that this place is pretty expensive for Korean BBQ. I would say it’s more of a $$$ restaurant! Otherwise, everyone here is very friendly and the service is superb. The restaurant is clean and nice, and the atmosphere is fun, which makes it great for groups!

When a restaurant’s menu uses velvet paper, you know it’s fancy. I came here for dinner with a friend for a casual dinner, and was a bit taken aback at how upscale this place was– the décor, the traditional Korean attire the waitress wore, even the complimentary barley tea! It was quite a pleasant experience, even though we were dressed like plebs. Their banchans were not bad. I ordered the yookjejang kalguksoo(spicy beef soup with noodles aka my favorite Korean dish) and they nailed it pretty well. Even though it says spicy it really isn’t, but it still provided the perfect warmth on a cold night. My friend also ordered a yookjejang but with dumplings instead, and those dumplings were literally the size of a hand. We made the mistake of not sharing a dish because the portion of our dishes were ridiculous! I ended up with leftovers, which was still delicious the day after. The best part is that you get a complimentary yakult at the end of the meal! The price is fairly average, ranging around $ 15 per meal. Honestly I would really only come here for a date night or a special occasion, like family dinner or friends from out of town came to visit. Overall, still a lovely experience. I’d say this is one of the better Korean restaurants in the area.

Came for lunch and maybe I ordered the wrong thing — — Banchan was satisfactory, but nothing out of the ordinary — bean sprouts, kimchee, radish, etc. — Chicken soondubu: broth wasn’t super flavorful or thick, and it didn’t come with mushrooms like So Gong Dong(SGD) in PA Came with white rice instead of purple rice, so that was also sad. I’m assuming this is better fit for BBQ meat at dinner

Amazing L.A. Galbi $ 22. This restaurant is a bit on the expensive side but pretty yummy. Their banchan(sides) were really mediocre. I only liked 2 out of the 8 items. Kimchi was good but didn’t have the nice spicy kick that I like. I got the seafood and beef tofu soup. All their tofu soups are $ 12. Pretty good! Rice is extra $ 1.50 but I think they forgot to charge it when I asked for a bowl of extra rice. Total: $ 36.98

3.5 stars Was too lazy to do barbecue that night so ordered cooked food Delicious galbi, but bulgogi was a little on the dry side. Ordered the king size dumpling, with pork and kimchi in it, pretty tasty. And they didn’t lie about the king size, I could only eat one out of an order of six, too filling. Ban chan was decent. Service was good.

Jang Su Jang where have you been all my life?! Hands down my new favorite Korean restaurant. I loved JSJ on my many levels. It checks all the marks in the quality of the food, variety/endless options on the menu, authenticity, attentiveness/friendliness of the staff, ambiance and cleanliness. I really can’t ask for more. I would categorize this as the RG Lounge of Korean restaurants minus the tourists but better. One this I might call out is their kalbi is amazing! Everyone and their mothers orders this at JSJ. You can grill at your table or have them prepare it in the kitchen. The place is non-smokey and get this, it’s even air conditioned! Korean BBQ at its best! They also have a great selection of banchan with usually wins me over :) What we ordered: Kalbi x 3 — this is what they’re known for so we had to indulge and arrived with a large party. Freakin delicious and full of flavor, tender even when it’s well done and juicy as hell. I swear I can eat this all day with some rice. We asked for one medium rare and they accommodated that but I think letting it be cooked through it the way to go so you get that smokey charred flavor on your meat. Spicy pork — Good! Full of flavor, just enough heat, tender and juicy just like the kalbi. Seafood pancake — loved it! This is a must get dish for me everywhere I go and they make this perfectly crispy and served on a sizzling platter. It was like a seafood pancake pizza because it was pre-cut in triangle slices and was a little thicker than other pancakes I’ve had. Even though it was a bit thicker it was not doughy and I loved the crunchy exterior. Stuffed with loads of ingredients so they do not chince. Tofu soup — Good! It comes with a raw egg on the side. If you have a kid around let him/her crack it into the soup because poor Ethan wanted to do it. I love eating this dish with a bit of rice in it. Dumpling and rice cake soup — this was for the kid. The dumplings were huge and delicious. I thought it was ok because I typically prefer more pungent flavors but nonetheless good. The service was great! We didn’t notice they had one of those Korean bells until we left because we never needed to push the button once. The staff were attentive and friendly and they were quick in getting our food out along with all our other requests. Bonus: the waitress didn’t roll her eyes at me when I asked if she can take a family picture. Instead, she insisted we should wait for the banchan to be set on the table before she takes the pic. You know we foodies appreciate that. Why wouldn’t we want food in all our pictures?! Other notes: restaurant in shopping center so there’s plenty of parking in the lot, Paris Baguette is literally next door so save room for dessert, make reservations because there seems to be a busy waiting area. Enjoy!
