This boutique is a rare treat; the kind that is hard to find these days. Ursula is knowledgeable and a friendly hostess who stocks excellent yarn and supplies. About three or four years ago, bored with rectangles,(scarves, dish cloths, etc.), I asked Ursula to teach me how to knit gauntlets(fingerless gloves). She gave me a pattern she had written up and after purchasing the skein/needles, we sat down to start the first lesson. I’d never used double-pointed needles before but she was VERY patient. Thanks to her I accomplished my goal to knit a few pairs of these gloves as gifts and moved on to complete a pair of socks. At first, I had little confidence trying to manage 5 needles… it was kind of like wrestling with a porcupine, but Ursula made it look easy and was very understanding and tolerant with my inexperience. She is a very patient woman and knows her craft well. What you won’t get from a book or YouTube video that you do get here is the one-on-one attention and advice offered while observing your work-in-progress. Her arrangement is to teach you what you’d like to learn in return for the purchase the yarn at her shop. This is more than fair when considering the cost of classes or private lessons. I plan to bring my 12 yr old daughter to this shop for lessons. Others who have commented on the disorder of her stock seem to me to have been in a big hurry and have missed a good thing. There is a time and place for most everything and my only suggestion for those in a rush is to try a large chain craft store or search online. Ursula has time for her customers-a rare commodity today. She knows where everything is and if you don’t know what you’re trying to find, if you describe what you are trying to create she has good suggestions. She is a wonderful person and worth the time spent getting to know her. Knitting is an art and spending time at Ursula’s shop is a treat. Savor it. The ONLY reason I have not been back every month is because she keeps limited store hours– understandable when considering that she runs a small, one-person shop and has limited hours of availability.

I love spending time in Ursula’s shop. She has taught me so much and become a dear friend. She knows where everything is. It is a fun place because it reminds me of shopping in Europe with lots of personal assistance. I especially love the quality of her yarn and the fact that it is protected from dust. Thank you Ursula!

Be aware that your children are not welcome at this establishment. I went in to specifically let my son pick out some yarn. He is a very sweet, gentle, calm 3-year-old boy. I was excited to support a local business with quality products. However, we simply had a horrible experience. The proprietor visibly tensed as we entered the shop. She approached us after a few minutes and literally told me she didn’t want my son to «tear up» her store and that«this isn’t Michael’s. [Her] products are expensive.» And this was AFTER my son very carefully, gently picked up ONE hank of wool-blend yarn and said, «This is soo pretty. I love this color. I want this one.» We were headed up to buy it, when she said she didn’t want my son to touch anything. Needless to say, we left the yarn where we found it and left the store.

I’m here at the yarn store and I was hoping to pick up some supplies really quick. But no one is here and it says it opens at 10. -.- now I have to wait until after work to get the supplies I need. I don’t think I will be going here though.

PROS: — The lady that works here is very nice. If you know what you’re looking for, she’ll know where to find it. — BEAUTIFUL and high quality yarn. Also lots of hand-knitted items for sale — wasn’t expecting that! — An awesome 40% clearance bin with some really beautiful stuff in it. CONS: — VERY disorganized. If you’re just coming in to browse or looking for inspiration, you’re out of luck. Wouldn’t recommend this place unless you know exactly what you want. — A bit expensive for my tastes… — Checking out takes F O R E V E R if you’re using a card, because she hand writes up a receipt, totals it up with a calculator, and then inputs about five thousand settings into her credit card machine. I think I spent more time paying than I did shopping.

I walked in there hoping to find some yarn for my next project. I was surprised at how messy the shop was, however, the shop was rather cozy. It was like a knitters private office — as said by another reviewer. There were piles of yarn everywhere. I’m pretty sure the lady knows where everything is at. The messiness of the shop is not the reason for my one star rate, it was the lady’s unhelpfulness. I walked in there with an idea of what kind of yarn I wanted and the color, hoping that someone with more yarn experience would help me find something I could work with. She was not even trying to help or even being courteous. I drove several miles to visit this shop, so after she killed my inspiration, I thought to myself — why don’t I look around and see if there is anything else I might pick up since I am already here. She seemed like she was not comfortable with me looking at the knitted items on the display rack. I thought the shop was interesting, but she made me feel like she wanted me to get the hell out of there.

First off, it doesn’t matter that Ursula’s store is messy(messy is such a subjective description). That’s simply a sign that the woman loves what she does. There is yarn everywhere. and I do mean everywhere. Ursula knows every skein of yarn she has in her shop — but this place is more than just a yarn shop. Ursula taught me to knit. I was able to knit an amazing hat(with cables and a brim) three weeks after I began learning to knit. I believe I was just a little advanced in my learning, but I definitely got what I paid for. Ursula offers free lessons; however, you must put a $ 100 deposit down for purchases in her store. $ 100 might seem steep, but I assure you, that is an absolute steal. I spent at least 12 hours in her store learning from her for a week or two. I know other stores(like the Yarn Lady in Mission Viejo) charge $ 25 an hour for private lessons. My lessons were one on one. Ursula would have to stop to help a customer from time to time — but it was totally understandable and I just kept working on what I was learning. She has to help her customers! I’d say I definitely got a good deal. Furthermore, Ursula is a joy to talk to and be around. I HIGHLY recommend you stop here if you’re looking for serious kniting expertise or a great variety of yarn. There might be larger shops out there, but I’m endeared to Ursula because she’s a sweet woman and was incredibly helpful during the learning process(and still is incredibly helpful). This will always be my first stop for yarn. Store Hours: Sunday & Monday: Closed Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday: 10AM-4PM Friday: 1PM-5PM

True, the small shop seems very disorganized, but as someone noted earlier, the owner knows where everything is. She’s also a fun person to talk to. Truth be told, this is not a place one can browse. Instead, have some specifics in mind and ask for assistance: What sock yarns do you have? If it’s all in one spot, she will show you where it is. If it is scattered in different spots, she will pull a skein of each brand to show you. The customer service here is very thoughtful. I loved it!

1 star because of the disorganization. I went in there to see what they have. I still come out of that shop not knowing what they really have… I think of this place like a lady who’s hoarding yarn. I’m afraid of touching anything because bags of yarn will fall on top of me! The yarn was stored more organized in the back, so I was just checking out the yarn there. Then I was told that was the storage room and I’m not allowed back there. Wow. The storage room was way more organized than the actual store front. I added one more star only because the lady who owns the shop is really super nice. She does know her way around her own shop and had lots of suggestions… if you knew what you were making. I was just wanted to see what she was carrying… which was a whole lot of nothing and a little bit of everything. I knew of one LYS that carried EVERYTHING, but the majority tends to favor a particular company. This shop is a bit scattered. I just had this urge to organize for her. That really means I had to leave ASAP. It’s the obsessive compulsive in me.

This place looked like a warehouse, I love it. As an intermediate knitter, there were projects on display that inspired me. Ursula was helpful in showing me how to read a new pattern. The prices seem average for this area.

Walking in this yarn store, I was unsure if it was a «Yarn for sale» store or some knitters private office. The place was.messy. Really really messy. As in sealed bags of yarn stuffed into piles on the floor, cubbyholes packed with yarn with no signs/labels. There was a big rack of knitted items in the middle that I guess were for sale. There were knitted items hung in front of the packed cubbies, blocking all view of the yarn. I could not figure out if any of the yarn was sorted by fiber or what. There were at least two tables in this small space, covered with office supplies. As I looked around, this place seemed to specialize in fun fur and acrylic. I asked the lady for Malabrigo… nope, she didn’t have any. I asked the lady for Alchemy Bamboo(since I need more to finish a tank top I’m making) and not only did she tell me that she didn’t have any, she went on to tell me how awful bamboo is and how it never makes anything good. Totally weird — I mean, I’m a customer asking specifically for it. so obviously I know what it does and that I like it. Why badmouth my yarn choice? Does she not want to sell any of this precious eyelash yarn? Is that why its all sealed in bags and stuffed pell-mell into dark little cubbies behind piles of hanging scarves? That was enough for me. I can’t even comment on the prices as I could not see any posted.

Yarn. Why is it so hard to find good quality yarn in north OC? A true knitter doesn’t buy yarn at Michaels. No siree. You shouldn’t be able to own knitting needles if you committed such a crime. This place kind of looks like yarn warfare just occurred. There is yarn on the floor and up to the ceilings. From the front of the store to the very back. Everything seems to be disorganized with skeins hanging everywhere. But the owner of the store knows where every skein of her yarn is located and you just tell her what you’re looking for and she’ll find it for you. Very helpful, very informative and she’s a yarn fanatic. Just the way they should be. She has everything and in every color. Oh cashmere wool how much I want thee. Prices seem to be inflated by a dollar or so, but that’s what you get for living in an area that isn’t infatuated with yarn. And my logic is, even if I bought the same yarn online I’d still have to pay for shipping and it would take days when I could have my yarn now. Will be back for more yarn. Like I don’t have enough already…
