Every time I’ve been there, I’ve had a different experience. The other volunteers and the office staff are really nice but sometimes the administration can be condescending. The president opened a door to one of the rooms and it swung open and hit me and he didn’t even apologize. When one of the other staff introduced me to him, saying I was a great guy to meet… he responded by saying, she says that about everyone… I didn’t ask the lady to compliment me nor did I think the president would be so sassy and rude. Recently, he sent out a very unprofessional email to everyone about unlocked doors left over night. To be honest, I’ve never seen behaviour from a non profit professional like this before. I go there to find a sense of community with like minded people, when I go now, I avoid him. I don’t think people should not go there, that place should be for us but just a little feedback for the president, be a little nicer. I’m sure this will be read aloud in the office for everyone to laugh about. If I get hateful responses I’m not going to feed into it, this is my opinion and my experience.

This place provides services to the LGBT community, ranging from free HIV testing to targeted group discussion activities(i.e. a 20-something group, a transgender group, youth group etc.) The location is located next to the 7−11(?) and can be difficult to spot if you don’t search for it. There are parking spots if you turn into the actual location, but during meeting hours they can sometimes be full, so you might need to park on the streets. I found it a decent place to meet gay people and make gay friends.

Everything this place does is with a focus on the community. They have free HIV testing 6 days a week; mental health services/counseling; groups for youth, seniors, men, women, transgender, and more; a cyber center open for use; volunteer/internship opportunities; and a community group for volunteers to undertake projects. And, they host a few social events every year and still manage to get out at other related events in the community. I say, check them out. Their services and staff will impress you.
