Is it possible to give minus-five stars? This company is owned by a crook. He completely mislead me into purchasing a non-energy compliant sliding door and likewise non permittable front door. He directly told me the work did not require a permit, which was a blatant lie. Now I can’t get the completed work permitted, the city is aware of the work performed, which basically means I have to throw away over $ 10,000 worth of work. Marshall, the owner, has completely disavowed himself of any responsibilty and has effectively disappeared. He won’t even supply me with the specs for the doors he installed after numerous requests for said documentation. Contractors with which I have engaged with subsequently have laughed at the work performed. Flashing was done haphazardly and the front door was shimmed with left over tile I had from a flooring project. Unbelievable. Buyer beware.

Beware! While their prices may seem good, the owner(Marshall Montgomery) is very sue-happy and gloats about how he is «16−0 in Small claims, and can run up a defendants bill like no other»(a direct quote from one of his emails. See more at the bottom). It would take forever to describe all that I’ve gone through with them, but the shortest version is this: I initially called for Elsie and finally reached her after a few attempts. She was pleasant and all seemed good. We just needed to finalize a few details, and she was to place the order(this was back on August 11th, over 5 months ago). However, I was having difficulty getting responses from her. Weeks would go by without a response, even though she knew my project end date was coming up, and I needed the doors before then. And I made it clear that I needed the doors before returning to work, as I would not have time to deal with this then. She finally got back to me and apologized, saying she was dealing with a family issue. I was forgiving and figured things would change and she’d place my order. However, I didn’t hear back from her yet again. I was told that Elsie is the busiest person there and that someone else might have more time to place my order. So I had to go through the entire order with a different employee. He said he’d place the order, but never did, and I never heard from him again. So finally I reached Elsie again. She apologized profusely and said that this time she will be sure to place my order. I made it very clear that my construction job would end soon and that I’d still place the order but needed the doors before the job ended or I’d be left without an installer. She assured me the doors would be in, so finally, MONTHS after my initial call, she finally placed my order. But that really was just the start of the problems. Several weeks passed and I hadn’t heard from Elsie. I was able to be flexible at first with the fact that the doors were taking longer than promised because my construction job was also past the expected finish date. However, as the date by which she said the doors would be in was long gone, and my remodel job was nearing its end, I emailed Elsie yet again letting her know that I needed the doors. I never got a response. Finally, after my contractor was long gone weeks later, I get an email from another employee saying, «Your order has been ready for will call for almost 30 days.» What?! So either they lied to make it seem like the doors were in closer to the date they promised, or they simply did not care that the doors were sitting in their shop for a month even though I needed them. Now that my contractor had moved on and I had no way to install them for the low remodel package price he had given me, I would be stuck with 7 doors and no installer. In the last several weeks or so when I was not getting responses from Elsie, I had to warn her that I would have to contact her boss(the owner, Marshall Montgomery), and she didn’t seem to care that I wanted to speak to him. Well, I quickly understood why when I learned that his conduct was even much worse than Elsie’s. At least Elsie acted like a professional when she did finally communicate with me. Even though Marshall had never communicated with me before, when I was dealing with all the problems, his first emails to me were rude and demanding. He told me that I needed to pick up the doors and pay for them immediately or he’d file a lien! I was shocked. I had to wait months longer for the doors and had lost my contractor after all that time, and Marshall couldn’t wait a little time to figure out how to accommodate me now that I had no installer because of their own negligence. He told me he had an installer for $ 350 and to come get the doors immediately. But it turns out that was one of his many lies. Just days later, I actually found someone else to install the doors for a reasonable price(still nearly twice as much as my the original installer), and I told Marshall I would buy the doors(even though I was treated so horribly) on two conditions: 1. He resolves the bogus lien that he never should have filed, and 2. Agree to get an installer for $ 350(like he said he had) in the unlikely event that my second guy didn’t come through, but Marshall wants to sue me instead. He said that«plaintiff’s win 80% of the time,» so he’s looking forward to getting more money from me. I’m happy to share his emails upon request so you can see how horribly he treats his customers. He threatened that he will find out where I work, and here’s another of his many smug comments in his emails, in which he boasts about taking people to court: «16AND0IN6YEARS. ONEFORASLITTLEAS360.00.BUTAFTERALLCOURTCOSTSHISBILLWAS $ 1,235.00. YOUKNOW I WASSMILINGATTHATPOINTWHENHEPAIDITALL. HEACTUALLYGOT A CHRISTMASCARDTHEFOLLOWINGYEAR.» As you can see, Marshall is quite smug and malicious.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced! Asked for a price on a Dutch door. Thought the salesman was putting a quote together for me, but instead he called someone into his office and started barking about needing an order placed ASAP for his own house. After listening to this for quite awhile, I asked if he was seriously more concerned with his own order while I was standing there. I turned to leave, and he flippantly said he had contractors to deal with and I didn’t understand. Oh I understood just fine. I may have initially asked for a price on one specific door, but I was looking to order about $ 60,000 in windows & doors for 3 houses I’m building. Someone exhibiting good customer service would have excused himself or stepped away for a moment if the timing was that critical, but no. Guess I was supposed to wait until he had nothing better to do. I would NEVER do business with this place. Sure hope you got your door dude!

We used them for closet buildout. Their prices beat the heck out of the two big closet companies we called and the design was MUCH more flexible than what either of the others could offer us. They transformed my teeny walk-in into the most usable space it could be. Highly recommend.

I had a great experience with The Affordable Companies. The owner is direct and a no nonsense kind of guy, but he knows his stuff! Not only did he do my crown, doors, and windows, but in the beginning stages of planning, he suggested some changes that helped improve our view and helped defer the cost of some things by suggesting where to and where not to spend the money. I am extremely happy with my results and recommend that you give them a try!
