I swear anything within a stone’s throw away from Mater Dei is Mater-freaking-fantastic! Like all low budget lunch scavengers, I have been hooking onto ethnic foods. Why? High in flavor, low in cost, and flipping fast! In the past, I’ve done Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean off Bristol, Brookhurst, and Westminster. Now, I will begin my Mexican conquest! If you travel in Baja or even LA, there are always three types of Mexican carts: the jugos, the tacos, and the mariscos(ok ok the bacon wrap hot dogs count too!). Here, it’s like these guys finally got tired of cops busting them for permits, so they relocated inside. There’s a jugo stand, a taco stand, and ceviche! The ceviche place ONLY serves ceviche. It’s like talking to Bubba in Forest Gump: Shrimp ceviche, fish ceviche, ceviche tostada. .. . Come on Mondays — it’s 2 for 4 dollars! And get the shrimp! It’s so much better! And ask Señor Don Juan for the special hot sauce! This is definitely going into the lunch rotation!
