Cavalier Oceanfront Resort & Restaurant

Basic food, served in a nice setting. I’ve eaten here 3 times in a year while staying at the hotel it is connected to, and it’s good, but not great. I’ve had meatloaf, which was raw in the center because I believe they slice it raw and brown it on the flat top to cook it. The spaghetti was ok. A little watery, and with alot of green onion and parsley? Breakfast was average. Eggs benedict, home potatoes and good coffee. Expect to pay big. Dinner for 2 will run $ 75 easy. Breakfast was close to $ 50.

San Simeon is one of my favorite places in the world, and I’ve been visiting for years. I discovered Cavalier by chance, and am I ever glad I did! They have offered consistently excellent food, service, and overall experience. Everything I have tried, from coffee, to sandwiches, to Eggs Benedict, to dinner, to dessert has been absolutely spot on. The quality of the food comes through clearly in the taste, and the skill of the cook is unquestionable. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly if you’re looking for a solid, delicious meal.

Open-​faced PRIME RIB SANDWICH smothered with lightly grilled red onions and a mound of skinny (pencil-​sized) french fries sprinkled with lightly-​seasoned salt, served with 2 oz. creamy horseradish sauce (not strong at all — if you’re looking to clear your sinuses, this is not the horseradish for you) and a cup of beef broth/​drippings (not too salty — YAY). I had a cup of chicken noodle soup to start (with mushy macaroni noodles, not flat), which tasted like it could be homemade, although I’m pretty sure it was not. (Don’t quote me on that — I should have asked.) Finished with an exceptionally-​good orange sherbet that was not too sweet and even had a little «tang» like real oranges. Service was attentive and thoughtful, like a tea room. Ladies will know what I mean by that.

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to Hearst castle. It didn’t show up on my search for restaurants /​breakfast on Unilocal,but when we drove thru the area this was the busiest looking restaurant at 7:30am so we chose it.
Nothing fancy, but we had two delicious hot breakfasts. I had the egg sandwich. Hot and good. Came with a fruit cup on the side. You know how those can be tasteless? Well this was simply cantaloupe and honeydew melon chunks that were ripe and sweet.
Husband had eggs, sausage patties and hash browns.
Our service was great. Woman who was filling my coffee remembered that I switched from reg to decaf.
Our waiter Miguel was the nicest, sharpest waiter we’ve had in a long time. Five stars for Miguel.

Been coming to this place for years and it has gone down hill. Very disappointed with the service and quality of the food. We were told it would be a 30 min wait and we were the only people waiting. After 4 parties left and we weren’t called, I inquired. The hostess said it would be 30 to 4 min. I asked why they weren’t seating the empty 4 tables and she looked at me and said, this way, and showed us to a table. Then no one said anything to us for 10 min. I inquired again and we finally had a waitress stop by. Horrible service!
When our food arrived they were luke warm at best and the rolls were hard. There were no healthy choices. Tried to have some shrimp, scallops and fish grilled instead of in a pan of butter and they wouldn’t do it.
We will be trying some fresher new places in the future.

Wir haben heute abend hier sehr gut gegessen! Hatten zwar einen doofen tisch beim ein und ausgang! War aber nicht so schlimm! Es war mehr oder weniger immer voll! Haben ziemlich lange gewartet bis wir bestellen konnten! Aber dann war eigendlich alles okey!

We were on a road trip trekking down the Coast and had gone to the Magnificent Hearst Castle…
Looking for some decent food we went to Unilocal and rolled the dice on this place…
I had the Prime Rib Open faced sandwich which was good and the Clan Chowder was tasty… (Lots of Clams)
My wife had the Clam Chowder and Chicken Fetacini Alfreda…
Again this was tasty…
This was definitely one place well be visiting again next time we come through…

MAKE SURE you make a reservation! We were staying in Best Western Cavalier and they told us about their «restaurant». We walked over to make a reservation for 7pm. At 7pm, it was packed and there was a long line, but since we had a reservation, we already had a table waiting for us! YAY.
So there really isn’t too much to eat in San Simeon. Not lying. There’s a city 5 minutes south that you can get more food at, so you can totally eat there and see if you can get anything else.
Came here for dinner and breakfast of the 1 day we were there.
Dinner:Tri Tip Wrap: Turkey, bacon, greens, tomatos, avocados Feta cheese and ranch dressing in a spinach tortilla. Tri tip was a little bit harder to chew but everything else was flavored nicely. Your mouth had a great explosion of food that would be better than you expected at a random hotel restaurant in San Simeon. It was good in the fact that there was a lot of ingredients in the middle, but (ofc) was dry cuz tortilla.
Breakfast: Fisherman’s Omellete– shrimp, crab, mushrooms, green onion, jack cheese with Hollandise sauce. I suggest the Denver one though cuz ham, but this one wasn’t that bad. You could get a slice of toast (normal slice of toast) with potatoes on the side (hash browns). The shrimp– they didn’t hold back. There were a lot of ingredients here too, and a lot of cheese (yay for me!). They did have coffee and they charged us, when the person asked coffee? We were fools and got coffee and got charged $ 1.50 (i believe), when coffee is free just next door in the hotel lobby…
Why only 3 stars? The service is SLOW.

Good food for the area.

Great service! The clam chowder was really good! We had comfort food– think of it as an upscale Denny’s or Applebee’s. I had the creole pasta sub the chicken for shrimp, my hubby had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes, which was good! The broccoli was a bit overcooked, but I like a bit of crunch-​personal choice. We had 4 cocktails totals and our tab was under $ 80, pretty great for having good food in an area that doesn’t have many choices.

The restaurant is very Denny’s – ish. A little over-​priced, but considering there is nothing else nearby in San Simeon it’s better then nothing. The servers were reasonable and service came fast.
Breakfast was good and actually the Danish they serve with the continental was hot and really tasty. The pancakes, eggs and ham breakfast was really generous and tasty. Coffee is refillable, but $ 2.50 for a small cup… and not that incredible.

Nice Hotel. Comfort room, Fireplace was irreplaceable, we enjoying our small vacations there. The Restaurant was nice and so slow waitresses around… Very limited drinks collection. But… it was my Birthday and I tried don’t notice any flaws around me… The City was so small with a relaxed atmosphere. It seems that time is moving so slowly…

Do not get the pacific snapper who ever said this is good has no idea what he is talking about. Do not waist your money. Trust me

With very few places to eat after a trip to the Castle this was okay. The staff was okay the menu needs to be updated. We had the calamari, clam chowder, finish and chips. The food was good. I only gave it three stars because I felt their ambiance could have been nicer. The prices could also be a little lower.

Why can’t we put no stars? Who ever said this place is delicious has obvious got no taste buds. Jesus Christ people get it together… To start off why just why would a fountain coke ever taste like fish? There is no logical explanation but here we are… Second, ordered the butternut ravioli in a brown butter sauce… I still have no idea what the hell they brought me! Looks like a melted cheese soup! Wow this place blows

Like others have mentioned, this is probably your best bet if you are visiting Hearst Castle. The property has stunning views– they simply can’t be beat!
Unfortunately, I can’t give this place four or five stars. Yes, the views are stunning. But the rest of the property is pretty mediocre given the pricing.
Our room was tired and somewhat dated, which isn’t a big deal with the gorgeous views. However, there was an overwhelming mildew smell in our first floor room, and our bathroom window looked out directly to the walkway?!? However, when we closed the window, the steam from the shower was overwhelming.
Fixtures were dated, check in was somewhat slow, and the gym was dirty and not useful, and the restaurant appeared very mediocre.
Quick tip– drive 5 – 10 mins down to Cambria for better food! Drive to the right off of Highway 1 for a few miles and check out some of the restaurants!
I hate to complain because of the unique location and great views– but this property is certainly not worthy of four or five stars.

I hate writing negative reviews but this place was just awful. We waited 20 minutes at our table before the server even asked our drink orders. Didn’t get the drinks till another 20 min after that. Overall we were there for a total of three hours. The food took SO LONG and it was not worth it at all. This was so disappointing because we came for a very special anniversary dinner. Our server was just slow. She came to our table a total of three times. She was not helpful at all. She was walking around at a very slow
Pace which is not a great idea with a restaurant full of people. Right when our food came we asked for boxes to take it with us because we weren’t even hungry. I would give this place zero stars if possible. Please hire servers who actually attend to their tables.

The clam chowder tastes canned. The clams are very chewy. The waiter served it without a soup spoon. I had to eat it with a teaspoon. He said they were «out» of soup spoons. He also served the bottle of San Pellegrino warm, instead of chilled. Next is Caesar salad which is taking far too long to make-​25 mins so far. Tomatoes on a Caesar salad?! And too much dressing made it soggy & wilted. This was a disappointing simple dinner. If they cannot do simple, it can only get worse. The orange «sorbet» is grocery store sherbet. I asked for a glass of water to go & it is served in a coffee cup. Nothing is fresh and everything is served inappropriately. Oh well. I won’t be back.

The food was just a fried mess. We went to a restaurant across the street in which we didnt like so we saw cavalier. The sign eluded to a classy restaurant, not the case.
Fried oysters were nasty, staff was creepy, and there were a bunch of creepy grey haired people reading books.
It was like a nursing home cafeteria in which we were not welcome.

Review is for ROOM SERVICE ONLY:
Spaghetti = real tomatoes. Pasta was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was to die for. Served with garlic bread, and choice of soup or salad, too.
Cavalier club sandwich = delicious.
Service = friendly. We had room service for dinner, so I can only speak for ROOM SERVICE.
Prices = reasonable.

This place was great your paying pretty much for the view but it’s nice. Get a upstairs room the view is nicer. They got fire pits. On the beach. There nice. Rooms are very spacious and bed are great. Showers were hot. Overall a great experience .
But there was a issue at front desk I wanted to pay cash for the room the guy at front desk said you can pay when you check out. Ok that’s fine then I get an alert on my account say I was charged for my room plus inessential fees. The stupid guy just told me pay when I check out but he charged me for everything that night. Then I called front to find out wtf the lady said he should of done that and your money will get refunded in 72hr business days. So be cautious they bill your card and refund after so you that amount will be tied up till released. So for front desk people it’s a 2 star. Everything els was cool amazing view

******THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE RESTAURANT ONLY!!! NOT THE HOTEL!!!********* No!!! Don’t come here. I wrote a huge, elaborate review on Trip Advisor about this place. I gave it one star because the food was good.
The service is terrible. Im not going to go into the whole story, but I will say this: It was a Thursday night. I hate to see what its like on weekends, We waited for 25 mins for someone to come to our table and ask for our drink order. It took 60 mins for our food to come. The wait staff does not know about the food they offer… and it took 30 mins to get our check. THAT should be enough said. Just try another place… because this restaurant is not worth it.

The resort itself is wonderful!!!
