There’s a review somewhere here stating the place has closed. It is not closed. I went there today.

This place is under new ownership, and it is terrible! I just had the worst experience here and will never go back. We used to frequently get the falafel sandwiches from Mojay’s, and was really looking forward to a good falafel sandwich. I was in a hurry, so I called in an order for 2 falafel sandwiches. The person taking my order barked«cash only!» at me over the phone, and said it will be ready in 5 minutes. I show up 8 minutes later(not even 1 customer in the place), walk to the counter, explain I had placed the phone order, he takes my payment and THEN starts making my sandwiches. Isn’t the point of a phone order so they will be ready when I get there? He starts making the sandwiches and as he is putting them on the sandwich press I notice they are in french rolls. I stopped him and said«Wait, every other time I have ordered a falafel sandwich from here it has come in a lavash wrap.» He tells me «You ordered a sandwich! That is a wrap!» I said, «Ok, well in the past I have ordered many falafel sandwiches from here and they have always come in a lavash, I would really like them to be in a lavash, is there any way possible to fix this?» He says, «The wraps cost $ 1 more.» I say«fine, no problem, I’ll pay the $ 1 more, as that is really what I was looking for, I didn’t know you changed it.» He said«Too late, I’ve already made them, and that is what you ordered.» I tried again explaining that is really not what I wanted, he basically told me too bad. I told him that if he couldn’t fix the order for me, then I would never be back. He didn’t seem to care. I also questioned why the sandwiches weren’t ready when I arrived, as I was in a hurry and that is why I had called in the order. He told me people call in orders and never show up. Umm, then why did you even take my order over the phone? As for the falafel sandwich on french bread? It was terrible. I’ve never had a falafel sandwich on french bread before. The only ingredients were the fried falafels, a couple of slices of tomato, and some weird ricotta cheese or cottage cheese sauce(it was not melted feta, and it was not very good). There was no pickles or veggies or anything like that(other than the tomato slices), and definitely no tahini sauce. It was not good. Bad food, and even worse customer service. We will not being going back.

Great lunch I had here this afternoon. So good we plan on returning soon for breakfast. Started out with great hummus and warm pita wedges. You can’t get such a good grade of it from the grocer. This place is awesome for both vegetarians and meat lovers. We shared a shawerma plate and a ‘Mediterranean’ plate(all vegetarian) amongst our party of three. It was good to the last bit and they have a good beverage selection that we partook of. Before we left, we each had an iced coffee. A reasonable amount of ice compared to the full glass they give you at most coffee shops. Only caveat is that you’ll need to have cash with you because they don’t accept cards.

The large writing«Organic» drew me into this local shop. The colorful menu looked promising, and I was pleased when the only man working confirmed that they had almond milk as one of their non-dairy substitutes. A friend and I each ordered Chai Lattes as an afternoon treat– her’s hot and mine iced with almond milk. I was a little put-off by the steep price and only one size option(20 oz).And especially flustered that they were cash only. I pulled out my last five and a quarter as my Ice chai cost $ 5.22(yikes!) The man working was extremely curt and unwelcoming. He handed us the drinks promptly, and immediately upon tasting them we were appalled by the bitterness of them both. Don’t get me wrong– I enjoy real chai, but this was just sour. Trying to salvage our drinks, we asked to add more milk. Without thinking to pour any of the drinks out, he begrudgingly obliged and poured milk in to the already full drinks, causing them to overflow and make a mess on his own counter. We tasted the drinks again as they spilled on my friends white dress and burned her hand. They were still awful. With a smile, I apologized and asked for my money back. Not seeming to understand, he took the drink back, asking if I wanted sweetener. I repeated that I just wanted my money back. He took my drink, put it on the counter, and stopped making eye contact. I stood waiting at the register, a bit confused as to what the man was waiting for. He looked at me, and with a smile, I asked for my money back again. Looking completely befuddled, he refused, stating that it was a «waste of resources». He didn’t seem to understand the normal procedures in eateries. Completely fed up, we both threw away our drinks and vowed never to return. Afternoon turned into a disaster, and a total waste of money. DONOTGOHERE!

This place was filthy. The food was alright, but I lost my appetite when I saw the hundreds of dead bugs collecting on the windowsill. It was disgusting!

I had been in this place couple times since I own a car dealership in next block. Today when I got there, I asked the girl who was at the counter how much was the minimum amount to pay with credit card since I didn’t have cash on me. I grabbed a piece of cake and ready to order a latte. Then, the owner looking Asian guy showed up and he said«No, no credit card!!» and grabbed the piece of cake that I had in front of me and put it back in the basket! I and the cashier girl was astonished and I said«Relax man, I just did not have cash on me.» He said«No, no credit card, having this hand gesture saying like go away. I said „you just lost a customer and more importantly a neighbor“, reminding I am at the next block. He said» I do not care, I have lots of customers” !! I will tell everyone I know not to go this place.

Great coffee! I recently went in and ordered a coffee only to realize I had forgotten my wallet at home. As soon as I told them I would be back, one of the owners, I think, immediately said«No, no, no you can take the coffee and pay another time…» without any bit of hesitation in his voice. I was taken back by this kind gesture, however small it may have been, it was a rare experience in a coffee shop. These days business owners aren’t so trustworthy, kind and understanding. Glad to see good people have good business skills and know how to keep a loyal customer satisfied.

I rarely post reviews on here, but this was probably the worst customer service ive ever had in my life(and ive lived abroad in countries with very poor customer service traditions), so I felt compelled to let everyone know what a horrible place this is. I usually try to be very polite and kind to people working in the service industry as I know how tough it is, but this guy really pushed my buttons. After I asked if he could add a little less of the tea mix to the chai, as I dont like a lot of sugar, he said he would have to charge me extra. I asked why I have to pay extra for less, and his response was«do you want it or not?» When I said no, he said«then get the fuck out of here!» Hope these guys go out of business really soon.

Mo and Jay no longer own the business and it’s under new ownership. It’s a shame because I really did like the coffee, food, and service. Gonna miss that shawarma :(

Flies on Food! Dirty!!! Horrible service. Bad food! Came here for the first time to grab a sandwich with a client. We ordered our sandwiches & I grabbed a soda from the cooler after paying for the meal I asked if I could get a cup with ice. I was told by the lady working the register that a cup of ice would cost 25 cents. I said no thanks I will drink it out of the can. There were lots of flies all over the food & coffee area the place was very dirty. I told the lady after spending 24.00 for lunch that you would think they would not charge for cup of ice. She was very rude & said its a tough economy right now they have to charge for everything. I don’t think they will be in business too long.

What a great place! Nice 2 hour free parking available in the area, very bright and sunny inside with chairs and tables available outside. I got the Steak wrap and it was amazing! It’s served warm, with Avacado and other goodies inside. I highly recommend it. I also got the smoothie(Peach and strawberry), which frankly I thought was not very sweet and a little pricey. But overall, I love this place. And best of all, the free WIFI works great and staff is really sweet and friendly.

Terrible. My friend warned me. I tried anyway. Took 25 min to get a lamb Schwarma Togo because they didn’t see my order. Then when I got it, it smelled like dog food and was cold. Ate half and chucked the rest. An Asian couple running the grill at a middle eastern place. Um-no. How bout a bahn-mi sando instead? Won’t be back. Sorry!

I stopped in this place a couple weeks ago to grab a quick coffee. I was in a hurry and was hoping I could be in and out of the place in five minutes. When I arrived, there was only one person in front of me so I figured I would be outta there in no time. I was wrong. The girl behind the counter seemed to know the gentleman in front of me and she took her time chatting it up with him. I waited and waited and waited. All I wanted to order was a latte but after seeing how slow the service was, decided I would order a house coffee(which I could pour myself). All-in-all, it took over ten minutes for me to get a simple house coffee. I could understand if there had been a long line, but there wasn’t. It was just me and the guy in front of me. I doubt I will ever go here again.

Stopped in for a schwarma and was unfortunately very disappointed. The restaurant was super cute and very clean. Nice atmosphere but the schwarma was dry and very tiny. … One of the cooks asked after our meal how everything was, and we were honest with him. He said the lamb was dry b/c it was ‘young’(Then why did you serve it) Then he said the falafels are much better and we should try that next time.. If he felt so strongly about the falafel, then he should have given us a small sample of one b/c I won’t be back to try it out.

Mojay’s is a corner eatery on the edge of san rafael’s downtown. Moyay’s features mediterranean food: falafel, shwarmas along with pannins, pastries, pies, cookies, and coffee drink:(L 2) «organic north beach»,(masterpiece coffee, marin) –brew smooth, bold, and not harsh. –3 thermos coffee available, defaf, french roast the other choices. –felt tad sleeper, but think coffee kept me awake.(discovered chp folowing another car to the left of me later). coffee drips: –efficient service –understaffed, but courteous service.

UPDATE: Mojay’s has become Shaky Grounds – again. It used to be called Shaky Grounds. Then Mo and Jay took over and renamed it. Then Mo and Jay sold it, and it’s back to Shaky Grounds. And it’s awful! The first thing the new owner did was raise the prices of everything. Then proceeded to cook things up badly. Really! But the worst is the lack of integrity. He’ll have stale croissants from the day before and sell them for fresh. When I noticed, I asked, and he lowered the price. Yek! It’s dirty with bad energy. Oh, too bad Mo and Jay are gone. They were great, made great food, created a great atmosphere. — — — — — — — — — — - I love this place. It has great energy. Great coffee. Great food. Great music. A place to go for coffee in the morning and lunch, and any other time of the day. What gives the place that comfortable, welcoming energy is the owners – two really great, easy-going, friendly guys, Mo and Jay. Very casual, café-style setting. Lots of parking. Internet. Few tables for outside.

Love this place! Can’t believe I haven’t been here before, considering I live right up the hill. Coffee was great, the salad was perfect. The location is fantastic. LOVE that it’s on a corner: I can work and people watch at the same time. Did I mention how AWESOME the music is? It is awesome. Mix of house, lounge, jazz. Every now and then I’d here a hip-hop sample. Love it.

Super fine sandwiches and coffee. We were driving by and I noticed the change in name… it could only get better. So we stopped in for a quick bite and drink… and were impressed. We’ll be back.
