Me thinks not. I’m rarely in North Marin, but found myself passing through on my way home south from a road trip. I had been to King of the Roll once before(years ago) and it was excellent, but this time: not so much. I hate to leave such a bad review, as the lovely and kindhearted woman serving us was bending over backwards for us, but the food seriously bombed. I guess they are going through staff changes and are without a sushi chef, so who knows who was producing the food during the«transition.» No sushi chef, mmm-kay, so I ordered some miso soup… simple enough right? Nope, didn’t have that. Ok, how about some seaweed salad?! Nope, didn’t have that either. The 2 rolls that I did shove down(I was starving and just off a driving trip) were slopped together with no innovation, flavor or love. I hope management works it out, but I’m scratching my head as to why a sushi restaurant is staying open without a sushi chef. If I hear the word that this place is properly staffed, I’d give it another try, as King of the Roll in Larkspur is decent.

Fantastic local find. Amazing Phở and now serving fresh sushi. Incredible value for money. Lovely family run business.

They now serve sushi again. They stopped for a while because they were in between sushi chefs. I had the chirashi plate and it was really quite good– very good price for the area. Service is always friendly too :)

This place is «phở-tastic»!(Sorry, couldn’t resist) We came here tonight on a cold winter evening in search of warm soup. We were very impressed by the fresh vegetable tray which preceded the wonderfully subtle flavors of the phō. The delicately sliced beef was nicely balanced by the noodles and onions. Add in some basil, lime, and sprouts and we were in phō paradise.

Was looking for a place to grab a quick dinner and inevitably ended back up here at King of the Roll. Their Vietnamese noodle soups are the perfect comfort food on a chilly night, and light, refreshing appetizers like the fresh spring rolls(served with a sweet peanut sauce) are a must. I’ll be coming back to try the other items on the menu!

We came here a few times and loved the sushi and the super friendly service. Then my wife Ann son and I went for lunch the other day only to find out that their sushi chef had up and quit and the only replacement they could find was a chef who only knew how to make Vietnamese food . So they changed their menu and and I have to say, as good as it was, there are many sushi places but no good bun places. The food was good and the waitress/hostess/owner was very sweet and joked that the numbers next to each item on the menu were just as much for her as the customers. We are super exited to to go back and help make sure they survive.

I don’t give 1 star reviews lightheartedly. Just had the most disappointing meal here. Have been coming here for years and was very optimistic when the business was bought/changed management within the last year. The first meal I had after the change of ownership was fantastic. The fish was fresh, the presentation was perfect and the service was good. Every single meal I have had since has been consecutively worse. But mostly made worse by the awful customer service and inept waitress. I will spare you Unilocalers the long story. — one server here which shouldn’t be a problem for a small restaurant however this server is unable to multitask. Menus aren’t given, bills are added incorrectly and she always leads with the negative(eg: «we are out of a lot of food today» instead of we have plenty of food available today but are out of a few items) She blames the kitchen staff for any complaints or problems. You have to ask for your food or things she has forgotten multiple times. Ugh. She really has no business waiting tables. Totally bummed that my neighborhood sushi spot is not a place I will be returning to after the events of this evening.

So today my boyfriend and I walked in to have dinner, needless to say obvious to my one star we didn’t eat, we sat down got tea and water and then was completely ignored by the server. I understand that they were busy but seriously? Probably 15 minuets of no service. Not to mention there was a family behind us being yelled at by the server that they were trying to get free food because their son went out side, caught a fly, and put it in his soup, lady you’re psychotic if you think a Marin family would seriously tell their son to con a business out of their money. After I asked her if she would take our order she say yes of course, walked back to the kitchen came out with someone else’s order and then walked back to the kitchen, so we got up and left. Long story short, the taqueria around the corner got our business and a nice tip.

so we sit down at a table around 7, decently busy.(not crazy) only one waiter. I think they always just have one waiter. you’d think 1 waiter could handle this tiny place with only 9 tables by them selves. well apparently not. we walk in takes 10 minutes just to get water cups. another 10 minutes go by, the lady comes back to ask if we’re ready to order. why do we not know what we want… oh because we didn’t even get menus the past 20 minutes we’ve been staring into blank space. so we wait another 10 minutes, let’s just say we’ve been sitting down for 30 — 40 minutes now(starving at this point) we had to go up to ask if she take our order. WEHADTOASK the waiter! anyways… we just got up and left. ***also if your reading my post and no one else’s, our table next to us said they had a fly in there soup. also if you can read the reviews. almost every other person had a problem with flys in and outside the food lol***

just had the beef udon dish, terrible! Absolutely no flavor, fatty beef, over cooked noodles. Way too much mayo in cal roll, sashimi was okay, nothing great. Came here many years ago when first opened, was decent, now? blah! Better quality at the mall, sorry to say. Oh yeah, $ 45 too, ouch!

Place has great fresh salmon nigiri and is one of the few sushi places with specials that I’ve found in Marin. My only complaint is that when I go here for lunch, which they are open, is that they leave the front door open and flies come in which is not cool.

Had plans to have lunch with a friend on 10÷9÷14 and the Marin County Health Department had closed it down. After reading the other reviews on Unilocal, no wonder!

I parked in front of KOTR as I was going to Scotty’s. KOTR had their front door open so I could see inside. As I got out of the car, I saw what appeared to be an enormous roach crawl across the white tile under the counter. Shocked, I took three steps forward to get a closer look(I was parked very close to the door). By then, the first roach was gone, but right by my toe, as if to say, «It was real, you didn’t imagine it,» there was *another* roach. This one was dead. I called the sushi chef over. He ignored me and yelled something to someone in the back room. Eventually, the other person came out. I pointed at the roach to him. He thanked me and I walked away. HFS, I would never, ever, ever eat here. I am so upset that they are serving food to unsuspecting patrons. Please, be careful.

I want back recently to check out the place after they re-opened and I was not disappointed. The décor is still mostly the same and the place is sill a little funky, but they got a new sushi chef who is fantastic and adorable, and they have made some updates to their sushi menu offerings. I am sad they are no longer open for lunch, but I still enjoy their dinner bento boxes and in my experience, the inexpensive food has always been fresh. I feel that King of The Roll #2 is making an effort to provide better service and quality and I want to support them in that endeavor. If you’re going to eat here, understand what this place is(and is not), set your expectations properly, and enjoy your meal. I always do, though I’m sure the sake helps ;)

Yesterday I stopped here for an early dinner with my grandma. We decided to try someplace new and ultimately regretted the decision. There was only one sushi chef and one server and although he only had three tables to wait on at a time, he would often walk in to run food or a bill and then leave without even looking our way. When I did eventually get his attention, I asked for new water glasses as he had given us dirty ones(lots of soap residue and possibly fingerprints, it was hard to tell, but there was also a piece of something in one of the glasses). The replacements he brought us looked the same so we just set them aside. The menu looked great and everything is reasonably priced but this place is still not worth it. We ordered the dinner boxes. Our food took a very long time to arrive. The restaurant was nearly empty but there were several take-out customers. When it finally came, the food was generally unimpressive(miso soup, salad, rice, maki all poor to ok quality), although I liked the vegetable tempura and flower roll. The A/C is noisy and at one point it got so cold that everyone started looking around and complaining to each other until someone found the server and he turned it off. Not a big deal, just added to a poor experience. When the server put our bill on the table, a little roach came with it. It was running around on the table so I killed it with the tray… and then I didn’t know what else to do. I didn’t want to make a scene and the server had disappeared again so I went to the front to find a pen to write a note with… and saw two more roaches on the floor. I will not be returning.

Gotta say, if you’re a fan of fresh, raw oysters, definitely stop by!!! They put this sauce that puts cocktail sauce to shame. Topped off with some fish roe… my mouth is just drooling over some right now. I think they have happy hour for those oysters Friday, Saturday and Sundays. In terms of Bento Boxes, Sushi Rolls, and Chinese food, there are definitely better elsewhere. But for the price and the freshness of the fish, definitely a good quick lunch! This satisfies my cravings for sashimi at lunch in Terra Linda!

As far as vegetarian sushi goes, the prices are pretty reasonable for getting fresh sushi. In terms of going places near where I work, this is the closest sushi place that I can walk to. However, both times that I’ve ordered takeaway here(bento lunches that I had ordered via phone), my order isn’t what I had asked for. I asked for Avacado Maki and I got Spinach Maki. The next time, I asked for #25 Vegetable Tempura Roll and got Vegetable Tempura. Also, soy sauce is always spilling out onto everything in the bag. So a bit disappointing and really messy when your eating your lunch somewhere w/out napkins. The next time, if there is one, that I go here, I will open the bag to check my order. And I will ask for an extra napkin. During my first visit, I was told that there is a $ 15 minimum for credit card purchases. But the server was kind enough to waive that since it was my first visit. I did appreciate that. They do sell fried green tea ice cream; I haven’t ordered it, but it’s a rare find on a dessert menu. I think that’s a nice option to have.
