Trag’s Woodwork & Designs

Based on Unilocal reviews, I contacted Trag’s Woodwork to repurpose a unique candlestick holder into a lamp. John accepted this smail project, and completed, including assembling my lamp. A tour the shop and review of John’s portfolio reveals craftsmanship and an eye for detail. We look forward to John design several pieces for our new home.

We’ve used John for a few projects now and I just can’t praise his work enough! He is a perfectionist and really wants to make the piece that YOU want.
He made me matching corner curio cabinets and they turned out better than I ever could have expected! (See my pictures). He suggested lighting, and found secret ways to not only lock the glass doors, but the wooden doors also. Then it was stained to exactly match my dining room table (by Honnerts).
John is a very talented woodworker, imaginative, and very easy to work with. I highly recommend him.

We highly recommend John for the quality of his work. He took out a shelf in our entertainment center and we now have a 40″ HDTV in its place. He also adjusted two other shelves which we can now put to use. John worked with our schedule and communicated very well with us on this job. We consider John’s work an investment in our home and we are very happy because of it.

I was looking for someone to do a really little random job. I needed to get a flush mount brass ring put into a flooring piece that goes to the crawl space under our house. When it was built, it was never put in and it made getting under the house a hassle. Anyhow, i typed in woodwork, san mateo, to Unilocal and found John at Trags Woodwork. He was very, very nice (I know when it’s a really really tiny job… most people won’t even return your call!) He listened and agreed to help me out. I took it to his shop (which is really neat and well kept) and he was able to put it in for me the same day. (my son loves building and he even gave him a couple of pieces of wood to take home and build with.) If I ever needed any work done, I would recommend John. He was great. It’s hard to find that kind of service today. I agree with Todd’s review, that John is someone who enjoys what he’s doing.

I’ll update this review once our job is complete, but we found John sort of by accident while looking for someone to build an entertainment center for us. We were choosing between a full custom build and going through a designer who orders modular units from the various cabinet makers. So far, we couldn’t be happier. If you’re the kind of person who prefers a local craftsman who is going to come to your house, get to know your style, and really take pride in the finished product then John is a great contact. He told me when we first met that woodworking started out as a serious hobby for him that became a career many years ago and it shows. He clearly loves what he does. After our first conversation, he came to our house to take measurements and quickly turned around some CAD drawings for us to see what our unit might look like. After a few more conversations and e-​mails, he was building. We had the chance to see our unit for the first time yesterday and we both were very pleased. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. John also does home theater systems and we’re building that element into the unit as well. to be continued…
