«Tacos Al Vapor» translates to «Steamed Tacos.» These are really hard to find in the states. I remember having these type of tacos in Guadalajara where they were selling them right out of a bamboo steamer with a cheesecloth type towel covering over the tacos to keep them moist. At this restaurant, there are only selected meats that are made Tacos Al Vapor style and they are distinct and yummy.

Wow I loved it. The Vapor tacos were as close to being oil-free as I can imagine. The food is clean and fresh, obviously no canned sauces everything tasted fabulous. Service was fantastic the food was better. I’m going back again tomorrow with my kids. PS try the Vapor tacos and also the shrimp.

Ahh here we go, I arrived starving like a lion in search of a delicious meal, I ordered the number 12. Mole and Chicken, it was by far the Saltiest Mole I’ve ever tasted in my Life. I kid you not, bad customer service no chips and salsa, waste of $ 20 wouldn’t come again. 3 stars for moderate effort.

I’ve been missing good Mexican food. I had the chicken Tacos Mineros. The flavor was awesome. Friendly workers too

The tacos here are very good, get the home made tortillas, it’s a must. FYI, I’m not a fan of the burrito here.

This place should get a half a star. My dog will eat anything but I would not feed my dog the food from this restaurant.

Food was decent. Girl at the counter ruins the whole experience. Super rude, and you can tell she doesn’t want to be there. You ask her for something and she rolls her eyes as if you’re a nuisance to her. Definitely won’t come and pay for food somewhere where decent customer service isn’t an option.

I dropped in on a Sunday afternoon. The place had 2 other people there. I counted at least five staff members and this place was a mess. If there were no lines or people to serve why was nobody cleaning tables and the floor. It drives me crazy seeing a filthy floor and terribly wiped down tables. We decide to order anyway. I had one al pastor taco and one carne asada. Carne asada was very bland buy al pastor had a decent flavor. Both very so dry I could barely eat them. They don’t come with any type of sauce. The onions were julienne cut and grilled, not the typical raw diced onion. The kids said their lengua tacos were okay. Wouldn’t come back again.

Great deep fried talapia. Loved their salsa. The super burrito was a bit lacking in meat. They have pretty good

Are you kidding me? This place is awesome. I love their homemade tortillas and the tacos are top notch. I decided to be difficult because I couldn’t decide which meat I wanted so I tried 5 different types: cabeza, carne asada, pollo asado, al pastor, and carnitas. Every different meat was really well done in their own right and I think this will be my new favorite dish and place for tacos. Carnitas was crispy, cabeza was soft, and carne and al pastor was chewy without being tough. I really like the pollo as well. It was busy for lunch but not too crowded, and the only thing they are missing is the horchata, but it’s really good. There is a small salsa bar and I am very happy that Unilocalers were right about this place.

You’ve got be a real gringo to come to a Taqueria and order a sandwich, right? Well gringo bingo then. Except, uh, I came up short of the«He scores!» feeling that I expected from a nearly 5 star-rated place. Sure, I deserve lots of blame for balking at the signature dish when I realized that: Tacos al vapor = Beef Tongue tacos Okay, there is one other«meat» prepared steamed(vapor) style, but it’s another«delicacy» type organ or somesuch that didn’t make me squirm any less. So trying to be a diplomat for the cashier who really was making an impressive effort with her suggestions and sure that I knew what I was going to get, I quickly scanned the rest of the menu and –whew– found familiar animal parts scattered throughout. Hmm. Mostly lots of big platters though, easily going to put me next to the over-$ 10-before-beverage range and possibly sub-conscious as the afternoon sleepies hit. I rest my case while accepting a «guilty» charge on ATLEAST one count of being a chicken and happily add that, speaking of chicken, my sandwich(Torta) was tasty and big. The carnitas side order was also good as it was blackened in spots(al carbon, sí, por favor), shredded well, and leaner than most restaurants serve. Adding to the oddity though were the blondest and wettest pinto beans I can ever remember getting. So later, getting going was a little more satisfying than what the food wanted to provide.

The reviews. from multiple sources, demanded that I try this place. I love me a good street taco… but I was mostly disappointed, maybe due to high expectations. I got a couple tacos, but I wasn’t blown away by any of the meats. The homemade tortillas were good though. The salsas at the bar… also wasn’t that great or flavourful. I guess I’m just not a fan. Maybe I would try again… but I live so close to Taqueria Row in RWC, it’s a hard sell.

Very authentic, truly friendly, cheap prices, convenient location. This is out go-to spot for tacos and various Mexican foods in San Mateo. There is something that everyone on our team can eat… they have lots of veggies options. I usually get 3 tacos of different meats. My co-worker usually gets a veggie quasadilla with a side of beans and rice, and today my other co-worker got a huge delicious torta. Not only are they friendly, but I am certain it is authentic as we are typically the only gringos in there. Usually it’s all latino day laborers. Oh a shout out to their salsas which are delicious and some are quite spicy. They provide free tortilla chips and salsa bar like most places. Would return, will return.

Not to scare away any of you single ladies out there(«heeeeyyyy…how YOU doin’?»), but I have issues. Anal Unilocaler issues, that is. After my less than satisfying meal here, I normally would have written my review and been done with Tacos Al Vapor. However, in this case, every time I tried to write my review, all I could think about were my friend’s words of mockery: «I TOLD you to get the tacos!» Oh how the truth hurts, especially since the tacos were the reason why he suggested coming here in the first place. Plus, he would know too, having grown up in San Diego. Hence my second trip here, despite how poorly the first one went. Partially so that I could finally finish my review, but mostly so that my feelings of regret would stop festering inside me. – GUACAMOLE&CHIPS…$ 1.99 ( ) The chips were fine(not oily, crunchy), but the guacamole was pretty«meh». The taste wasn’t that great(had a tinge of something to it), but the consistency was worse — thin and wet instead of thick and gloppy, as one might expect. – MORISQUETACONCOSTILLADEPUERCO — White Rice served with Pork Ribs in a Red(or Green) Sauce, Fried Beans, and Jalapenos…$ 9.99 ( ) Not quite what I had in mind; I inexplicably imagined«beans & rice» instead of just beans on white rice. Thankfully, the sauce and queso fresco added some flavor since I could barely taste the ribs. Probably because there wasn’t much to it, both in terms of quantity(just four small pieces) and quality(there was barely any meat on them). – TACOS — Carnitas, Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Pollo…$ 1.59 each ( ) The saving grace. The tortillas were fine, and I liked the acidity and tartness from the mix of onions and chiles, but what impressed me most was just how generous they were with the meat. Surprising, given what happened with my last dish. — Carnitaa: My favorite of the bunch. Juicy, nicely charred, and very flavorful. I could have had four of just these and been just fine. — Carne Asada: The taste of it was pretty spot on, but the meat was chopped so small, a lot of the smaller bits were dried out and burnt. — Al Pastor: The meat itself was nice and moist, but I could barely taste any of the pork under all that sauce/marinade. — Pollo: The meat was cooked perfectly, but the seasoning/flavor was a little subtle. Then again, my taste buds might have been thrown off by how overpowering the Al Pastor was. Beyond tacos, Tacos Al Vapor also offers a range of starters, breakfast plates, entrées, and burritos. However, based on what my friends and I had, I’d stick with the tacos(or their burritos, perhaps). They’re singlehandedly the reason for the three stars(one and a half stars for my entrée, two for the chips and guac, four for the tacos). Plus, because my friend said so. And you don’t want his words of advice lingering in your head either.

My first time at this restaurant, and it was perfect! I am a California native, however i have lived in Texas for the past 4 years and every time I come home the first thing i do is find a «bay area authentic taqueria» and i can honestly say this time i hit the jackpot! The food was Amazing, the staff was very nice, and the owner Rigo was awesome. I will be going back today before my flight leaves back to Texas. Easy 5 stars!!!

We went because of the high ratings on Unilocal.Unfortunately, most of us were dissatisfied with the meal. Guac + chips: the guac is a little bland, more watery than it should be, and we had to add salt to it. i wouldn’t have gotten this because I think if you eat there, you can just get free chips. Chx quesadilla: I enjoyed this and may get it again Chicken mole: the sauce was too salty and the chicken was so-so. Beef tongue tacos: they were just OK and not really worth the price(which is higher than the menu says) Overall, 2 out of 3 of us would not go again nor recommend it.

I had a hankering for some chilaquiles today, and this place popped up on Unilocal,so we happily headed over. It’s a simple place, no pretensions, with the menu & illustrations up on the wall. We ended up getting the chilaquiles, and a plate of steamed beef cheek and tongue tacos, on their hand-made tortillas. The tacos are incredible. I mean, some of the best tacos I’ve had, seriously. The beef is extremely tender and flavorful, generously topping their amazing tortillas, and perfectly accompanied by a few scoops of their salsas stocked on each table. A litttttttle pricy($ 3), but you do get a high quality taco, and their tortillas ARE amazing, so, it is what it is. The chilaquiles, I would not recommend. They weren’t bad, per say, but just disappointing. The eggs were severely overcooked, and the dish would’ve been highly improved by the addition of meat, and more sauce. It was ok, but you can definitely find better. Save your money and just get endless amounts of their amazing tacos!

When I was in a cab recently, I spoke to the driver who happened to live around the airport area, about nice Mexican places to eat in and around the airport and he recommended this place. It is also called Nueva Italia and was converted to a taqueria some two years ago. So I decided to try it before leaving town and glad I did. They give you a variety of chilli sauces with varying levels of heat and I tried them all with my corn chips and all of them tasted good. I had the Carne Asada plate for lunch which came with rice, salad, beans and homemade corn tortillas. The plate was packed with flavours and I devoured the plate in no time. The steak was delicious and chewy. The beans were simple yet tasty and I immensely enjoyed my meal. I would happily come back and try their entire menu if I could. Two ladies do all the cooking and service is friendly. Worth the drive to San Mateo.
