So I call on a Monday to take my son in for a cut. I get a spot that day (only because it was a weekday and a Monday, don’t try this on a Saturday), and bring in my son. We were greeted immediately by Glenda and sat out in the sun waiting for our stylist. Denise did a great job on my sons med-​long hair, was professional and just plain nice. When the cut was done, I went to pay. But check this out. No charge! You see, as Glenda explained, you came in nearly a year ago, had to wait for a very long time and left (I did, frustrated). So this one is on us, and we apologize. I can’t say enough. This is how you run a business. I’ve been going to Jen for 6+ years and she’s great. I tell her to make all the hard decisions for me:) how light to go with highlights to how many shades to use to how short can i cut my hair… I leave it up to her and she gets it right. All the staff @ Strands are friendly and make ya feel good to be there.

AMAZING! Ive been a long time client of Sarah at Strands and I would look like a hot mess with out her! I get bored really easy and always dye my hair Sarah is such a wonderful colorist and really listens to what you want ! Its hard to go from black to blonde to red to brown and back to black with out damaging your hair and Sarah can make it happen she works miracles! Strands is a clean salon with a great atmosphere and wonderful employees all the ladies and gents that work here are GREAT! Kudos Strands.

A few years ago, I had just moved here & was buying furniture at ikea. The girl checking out in front of me had curly hair and an amazing cut, so I asked her where she got her hair cut at– and she said Sylvia at Strands. I called up, made an appointment & have been going there ever since. Sylvia is very good at cutting curly hair & even better at blowing curly hair out (I judge blow outs based on how panicked the person looks about ¾’s of the way through when they pull out their mega irons– I know that’s a bad sign & that I will end up looking like a sad cockerspaniel). Sylvia is able to do it all with a hair dryer & it always looks amazing & I always get at least a couple of days out of it– and the prices are totally reasonable.
The only downside is that you definitely have to call at least a week in advance to get an evening/​Fri/​Weekend appointment with her– which I’m not so great at doing (I’m much more of a drop in, or call day before, appointment person), but that just means she’s popular with us curly haired people. Also, as others have mentioned, tips need to be in cash, which is super annoying, but not unusual for salons.

I have been going here for years. I got a bad hair cut from another salon and came to strands. Jen was awesome and helped me grow it out. She also dose my highlights and I get complements on my hair all the time. My family now all go to strands and Jen!

Just had the best haircut ever! Went to Sylvia after a year working out of town. Sylvia fixed what I thought could not be fixed. I have fine very straight hair it looks great! Thank you Sylvia. Michelle

I have been going here for years. I have ALWAYS walked out very happy, feeling like a «super model». Mani, pedi, cut, color, etc. I have never been disappointed. I wanted to share an experience I had there last week that really upset me…
While I was in the chair getting my roots done, I couldn’t help but overhear a woman at the front desk raising hell over her haircut. Let me say that I thought she looked AMAZING! She complained and complained and even went as far as to threaten the woman at the front desk that she would «leave a bad review on Unilocal if she has to pay for her service».
As it turns out… there are many people who pull this crap when they are looking to get something for free. They use the power of a bad review to try to get away with not paying for services.
A word of advice to my fellow Unilocalers… Be very careful which reviews are genuine and which reviews are the result of some cheap a hole using the power of the internet for evil instead of good!!!

Based on referral From a friend, my mom and I made appointments for nail services at this salon.
My mom wanted a fill and I wanted a shellac pedicure.
We arrived early, but my moms tech Jane was running behind. My pedicure was started by Lisa and she was surprised when I asked to see the shellac colors because she didn’t want to do it. I explained that I like it because the polish won’t rub off onto shoes and will last longer. She said she normally doesn’t offer it because she thinks it’s not necessary. Meanwhile, 10 minutes over the appointment time, my mom is brought back and Jane said she didn’t have enough time to do her fill. She could do the back fill but not the white. My mom politely declined. Jane grabbed her purse and left.
Back to me, lisa cut my toe while trimming the cuticle. She applied that green liquid but then tried to put my foot back in the water! I am so afraid of getting an infection. I stopped her there. She was apologetic, but it was impossible to enjoy my time there after that but mostly because my mom wasn’t accommodated at all.
I asked to speak to the manager and the receptionist had to pull her away from her client… I just wanted to give her the feedback that as new clients, what happened was so discouraging. I know she was busy working and didn’t have the time to hear out the whole incident so she just apologized for the mistakes and went back to work. I still had to pay $ 25… No polish or shaping. It was very disappointing.

I decided to cut my hair on a whim (I make rash decisions like this all the time) and I called to make an appointment. They had one available so I took it. Usually I regret these types of decisions, but not this time! Jeannie did a fantastic job! I absolutely adore my haircut and will definitely be returning! Thank you, Jeannie!!!

The people are very friendly but the lady doing my nails did a bad job. I asked for a white tip and she wasnt able to get the white tip straight. It came out all different thickness, one side thinner, one side thicker. Not enough polish, you can see in some spots through my nail. I dont know if the girl isnt very good, still training, or if maybe nails just isnt one of the strenghts in this full service salon. The maricure cost $ 20, not a lot, but I paid the same thing in another place a few weeks before and the gel color was smooth, the other girl straighten my nails, clean them, didnt leave nail polish on my finger, very precise. This place looks very nice, unfortunately they do not have a trained professional on their nail section. I was thinking going and asking to get them fix but im scare im gonna end up with another bad manicure!

I’d just moved to San Mateo and was need of a haircut, found this salon on Unilocal after much searching. Sara cut my hair and she did a stellar job — so happy with my new look! She was super friendly and cheerful too, even at the end of the day! I had a great experience overall. Definitely coming back! :)

Last night I reached that point, you know the one, that point where your hair just annoys you. A change is necessary, it’s been a little (or maybe a lot) too long since you last submitted yourself to a good stylist and his or her scissors. I was super lucky that Jen had a 6pm appointment available, so I raced over and cried «HELP!»
I have been doing my poor hair no favors over the past year, and it showed. I thought we were going to have to whack a whole bunch of length, but she totally took off about 2 inches and my hair is totally restored. I’ve gotten so many compliments and my hair looks and feels amazing. Why did I wait so long???

I am very impressed with Danae: she had to «fix» my hair color after another stylist out of town did not leave me happy. Danae did a great job with highlights: my color looks exactly as I wanted and she really took care of protecting the health of my hair. Her personality is very pleasant (not a small thing if you are stuck in the salon for a couple of hours). I liked the fact that she did not «bad mouth» the stylist who did prior work, but took time to listen to my concerns. The cost of her service is very reasonable when I compare it with prices I had to pay elsewhere. I am certainly coming back and my mother (who is very picky and critical) is going to try her as well: she liked my hair that much.

Ask for Jeffrey! He’s incredible. Wouldn’t trust anyone else with my hair. Was able to make a same day appointment.

I really wanted to like this salon, but you pay way too much for very poor services. I went to get my nails done (pink/​white UV extensions) and the people here are very friendly. Everyone there greeted me and made sure I was comfortable, including my nail tech. We chitchatted through the entire process, however, when she was done I could tell she hadn’t been doing this long, or was just not very good. You could both see, and feel, the ridges where her tool had been as she didn’t use a block to buff my nails. The nails were uneven in length and thickness and after about 4 days were lifted off to the point that I just peeled them all off. Mind you I paid $ 60 for this service.
I can’t say anything about the hair salon as I’ve never been here for my hair but I can assure you I will NEVER be back for my nails.

Denae is an excellent stylist and she saved my hair! I am a blonde with super straight hair and it is hard to find someone who knows how to style my hair. My hair follicle is super fine but there are so many follicles so my hair is super thick. Denae knew exactly how to ‘rough the cuticle’ and now I have volume for the first time in my life! I get so many compliments on my hair, it was worth every penny. I love this place and will not go anywhere else…

I went to Carissa after my hair was mistakenly turned a deep, almost black, red. It had washed out some, but I told her that I desperately wanted to be blonde again.
She transformed my hair effortlessly. She explained that I wouldn’t be totally back to blonde, which was understandable, but I finally felt like myself again.
Not only was I tremendously impressed with the results, but she did my full highlights in record time! I hate sitting there for hours waiting to be foiled, and she was SO fast!
I just scheduled my next appointment, and I can’t wait to see her work to get me even closer to my goal blonde!

Can I give this place 6 stars!!! Basically I went home to Southern California for Christmas and got my hair cut and colored while I was down there. The lady totally messed up my color and then went out of town so I couldn’t go back to her to fix it. So I turned to help where I found Strands and hit them help about my problem. The incredibly sweet receptionist recommended I see Carissa, who took me in for a same day appointment.
Carissa was incredibly sweet and did a FABULOUS job on my hair. She evened out the color and what quick and through. I will definitely be going back!
