We came here twice to pick up some compression socks for me; the staff are very friendly & knowledgable & eager to assist you. They are pretty reasonably priced compared to another place I was at a couple years ago & the socks from here, are lite like regular socks & not heavy like a couple pares I had. So, for excellent supplies at reasonable prices, San Mateo Medical Market cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.

Very pleasant experience. I agree with other reviewers that this is a great place to come and check out all kinds of medical supplies and household items that can make your life easier, or that of a loved one. I’m so glad to find out this store is nearby. Many things I would never have thought about, but but once you come in and look around, there all kinds of helpful supplies. As soon as I walked in I was helped right away by a nice young lady who was extremely helpful, professional and pleasant. Price was reasonable. I will come back for sure.

When I mentioned that I found the store on Unilocal, the nice woman I was speaking with noted that people tend to post on Unilocal when they have negative experiences. I promised I would post my positive experience, so here goes. There is no reason for a place like this to be clean, spacious, and efficient, and yet it is all of that and more. When you’re injured or disabled due to an injury and need some odd piece of thing to make your life less painful or more«able,» this is a great place to check out before you settle for the offerings in CVS or Walgreens. I needed something to raise my knees when I sleep because of my prolonged sciatica bout. I was using pillows first, scrunched up, and that was pretty unpleasant; then I tried using a foam roller with a towel on top for softness, which was better but wasn’t long enough and kept rolling around. It was when I got an MRI and the tech pulled out a triangular foam ramp that I realized there must be something I could buy that wasn’t jury-rigged. I explained what I needed at the San Mateo Medical Market and while they didn’t have what the MRI tech used, they had a comparable solution. Then I expressed concern that it might be too wide and force my wife to give up part of her ¾ ownership of the bed, and the person helping me insisted on going over to their bed sheeting aisle and figuring out the width of a queen-sized mattress. At checkout I was reminded that the cushion would be returnable as long as it wasn’t opened, but it works pretty well so I am satisfied. My only quibble is that the polyurethane has a prolonged outgassing period, but I figured the foam would stink. When bad things happen to your body, this is a great place to go to get some things to make life easier.

I had a pleasant experience here. Needed a back brace and wasn’t sure what the doctor prescribed. Ladies were very friendly and helpful. Told me up front that the item was not returnable which was fine with me. Walked out feeling better than when I walked in. Thank you.

I’ve never received anything but friendly, gracious, and knowledgeable help here. This store is open to the public, so even if you’re not a nurse, home health-care giver, or doctor, you can make a purchase here. So, if you need medical supplies, stop in here before you head to CVS, Walgreens, etc. You may not find everything — but you will find much of what you need, as well as a number of things not offered in «regular» drug stores. This shop carries a wide range of medical supplies, offered at reasonable prices. You can find a good selection of different kinds of gauze, wraps, gloves, and bandages, as well as helpful skin-care items such as cleansers, anti-fungals, and moisture-barrier ointments. For serious injuries and pain issues, you’ll find a variety of cushions, orthopedic socks and supports, braces, and more. They also sell lift-chairs, walkers, and other supports, as well as items that can make a home safer for someone with medical issues(e.g. rails and grab bars, stools and benches, etc.). What you won’t find? Most medications. The store is clean and well organized, and has a very quiet and peaceful vibe. Shopping here is pleasant — even taking into account that if you’re shopping here, you’re not here for«fun,» you’re looking for care items. That said, if I need to find medical supplies, I’m always pleased to make this store a stop.

The owner of San Mateo Medical Market, his wife(and their cute boy baby) have been very helpful to us in the recent past, but we ran into the an employee today who fell far short of that standard. We purchased a wheelchair on sale for $ 160. It was something like $ 190 before. When we got it home(about 1PM) we noted that it was dusty and chipped in a couple places, but we thought it was still worth it at the sale price. We attached the foot rests, had lunch, and brought it to the assisted living home where it was to be used. We immediately discovered that the chair arms bumped into the top edges of the lunch tables in use at this facility. By examining other wheelchairs in use there we determined that an alternate arm design was required. So we put the wheel chair in our trunk and brought it back about 5PM. It was never used or sat in by anyone but my wife(and that at San Mateo Medical Market when we first made the purchase). It turned out that SMMM had exactly what we had needed all along, but the sales person informed us that we could not get an exchange or refund because we had removed the plastic wrap on the wheels of the chair we had purchased 4 hours earlier. The best we could get was a 20% discount on another chair. I told the sales person that I would rather give it away than accept that, observed that most of the chairs she had for sale were missing that same plastic wheel wrap, and asked how she was going to sell those. She said that«she did not like my tone» and that this constraint was written on our receipt. My wife read through the tiny print at the bottom of the receipt and pointed out that in fact this specific constraint(one of about a dozen) was not there. The salesperson said that if we were unhappy we could call her boss, but would not let us use the phone in the store to do so, saying repeatedly in a very unfriendly way to use our own phone. After an increasingly acrimonious exchange, we left without any refund or satisfaction. So beware shopping at San Mateo Medical Market. You may get excellent, knowledgeable service, or you may get something wholly different. Be sure you know exactly what features you need in a medical device before you visit, and be sure to ask in detail about the return policy for the product you purchase. The sales person may not volunteer any of this information. Do not remove plastic wrap on the wheels of a wheelchair, and bring your own phone. We left the wheelchair on the sidewalk in front of the store. If you need a wheelchair and it’s still there, you are welcome to take it.
