Had high hopes. My boyfriend has a love for gyros and we were both pretty sick the last few days so I thought I would take us both out to get some fresh air. At the mall. Where my boyfriend has never been before. It honestly don’t seem like a bad idea at first. We got to the food court and began looking at the options it had to offer. Panda Express was out automatically because my boyfriend banned me from eating there ever again. I don’t know what happened. One minute I was talking Hot Dog on a Stick and the next my boyfriend tells me that he kinda wants a lamb beef gyro. Who am I to tell him no? We ended up waiting a few minutes because no one was manning the front(an obvious sign that we should’ve took but ignored) and eventually a guy came from the back to greet us. He wasn’t overly friendly but he took our order rather quick and even gave us 2 cups of water. Food came out probably within 5 minutes of ordering? At first look, it was impressive. The wrap was stuffed with veggies and meat and drizzled with the sauce and it really did look good enough to eat. Unfortunately, it seemed that the gyro was only good in looks. The meat was overdone and the veggies were old tasting and sad. My heart cries for my boyfriend that day. He really wanted to like the gyro and he even forced himself to eat more than he probably should’ve but in the end it got tossed. What a waste.

This is our go to place for gyro wraps. Portions are great and very flavorful. Can’t go wrong with the lamb & beef wrap. I really should give some of their other items a try one of these days. Plus the owner is a really nice guy.

I work nearby and visit the Hillsdale Mall food court often. Surprisingly I have not been here before! It is absolutely delicious! I had the chicken shish kebab plate and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was almost $ 10 including tax but the portion size is rather large so totally worth the price.

Worst falafel sandwich I ever had. Old hockey puck falafel balls in a cold sandwich. Stay away.

After a full morning of shopping at the mall, we were just too tired to wait for a table at a full service restaurant. Oh no… mall food court. I was pleasantly surprised to see this at the food court. I let the others go their separately merry way to other well known places. Really? Panda Express? I was looking for something more healthy and went here to order the chicken swarma wrap. Good portions of chicken, fresh lettuce, tasty zahini. Would have liked a little hummus to go along with it. Tip, if you want to use AMEX, it is a $ 10 minimum. For Visa/Mastercard, no minimum. I’ll be back to try the other items. Falafel looked like it had been sitting out for awhile so I passed.

The food here is delicious, and the service is great. I highly recommend the chicken gyros salad.

I don’t usually say this but this place was crap. I have never had a bad gyro until now. The meat was cold, the veggies were stale and the sauce tasted vile. Three of us got the gyro and all of us hated it. I could not eat it. The pizza was only slightly better.

Given its unprepossessing location and appearance, you’d never guess that Pita Gyros serves some of the best Greek fare in the Bay Area. But that’s no exaggeration! The Hillsdale food court makes for pretty noisy«ambience.» And you won’t see any decorative fire torches, or hear exclamations of «Opa!» while you’re here. But the spanakopita is fantastic, with light flaky pastry jammed with melty feta. It’s a great way to pack plenty of healthy spinach into your kids(or yourself!). If you indulge in walnut-‘n-honied baklava for dessert, that same flaky pastry reprises itself differently. The gyros sandwich($ 6) always satisfies me, and I often have some left for later(when it loses some appeal). The only way I would improve it is by increasing the tomato[e] fraction. I try to go light on the yummy tzatziki(you know: the one tasting of cucumbers, and sounding like the fly that carries sleeping sickness) dip/sauce, but it’s delightful. If you don’t like the carbs of a pita, several entrees, including gyros, are offered as salads. My personal preference is for the pita sandwich. Other Mediterranean but extra-Greek specialties include the hummus plate, which is very good, but not quite on par with the Greek offerings. The counter is frequently manned by the owner or his family. He’s a fascinating fellow to chat up, as a first-generation Greek American with extensive restaurant experience.(BYOO: Bring your own ouzo, but don’t let security see you — they’ll drink it all!)

What a awesome place to grab a tasty Mediterranean meal. I love the chicken gyro plate, you get lots of chicken on a bed of rice with roasted potatoes and a fried pepper you also get a nice salad with dressing and warm pita bread. The chicken is so flavorful and moist. The Rice with the chicken juices cant beat it. I was very surprised that you can get such a large tasty plate for 9.00. Some of the best baklava I have had in San Mateo. I always leave here feeling happy and full. It’s located in the hills dale mall food court very convenient location.

Great food every time! I am always amazed by the quality of food they serve here even though it is in a mall. Its like quality meets fast food for the first time. Whether you prefer meat or vegetarian options, the flavor always there! The longest wait is about 5 minutes for the kebabs, since they cook it fresh for your order. The pitas gyros take less then two minutes and always have that authentic flavor and only $ 6.95 The highest item on the menu is $ 9.95 which is a great deal for the food you get. If you are in the area and want quality food, fast and great prices, ABSOLUTELY try this place. You wont be disappointed.

Looks like I should have gone with a kebab. Sounds like that gets cooked fresh. After I ordered the combo gyro I realized it was pre sliced, m pre cooked meat that had just sat there. At least the pita was good. Salad was sad and wilted. Yikes

I’m a Great Steak & Potato guy. Whenever I go to Hillsdale Mall I go to Great Steak, but last night I decided to try Pita Gyros and let me tell you now I’m going to have to get two meals everytime I go to Hillsdale. I ordered the Combo Gyro Sandwhich which was gynormous! I don’t know if it was because it was late and they decided to give me a larger portion, but boy was it a great value for $ 6.95! There was so much chicken, lamb, and beef and they didn’t skimp on the tzatziki sauce either. I’ve been looking for a new gyro place ever since Yanni’s and Aspendos in Burlingame closed down – who would’ve thought I’d find one in the mall!

If you find yourself at the Hillsdale Mall and want a break from shopping, then have a really good bite at Pita Gyros. The menu is simple enough that almost all the work of ordering is done for you. They offer pictures of the food, so you know what you are ordering. As far as the portion goes, you don’t need to add any salad or sides because the sandwich is a good size to fit any stomach. If you are not in the mood for a gyro, Pita Gyro also offeres pizza as well as other Mediterranean foods. So come on down and have a bite.

Is Pita Gyros a world class fine dining experience … maybe not, but almost. The 5⁄5 I give it here is for being a superlative local value, and a brilliantly creative take on making Mediterranean food fast, convenient and tasty while still maintaining its health beneftits and taste. Mmmmmmm! I love Mediterranean food, and I have been to most Mediterranean restaurants in the Palo Alto area and surrounds. Most of them are surprisingly UNDERWELMING and for the most part disappointing — and overly expensive. There are some exceptions, and a big exception I was happy to discover here was Pita Gyros. We, my girlfriend and I, needed to go to Sears to exchange something at Land’s End. We both had gone out of the house without eating anything so we decided to check the food court in Hillsdale Mall to see if there was any fast food that we would be able to stomach. We did not expect much, in fact we both thought there was going to be nothing there but junk food, but we checked it out nevertheless. Coming down the escalator, the first thing we saw off the to immediate right was Pita Gyros, and we kind of smiled to each other thinking this was going to be a joke. We almost just skipped it to go over the Panda Express which has at least some fresh veggies in its food, but for fun we went over to take a look at Pita Gyros. They had a pretty good menu. We got a small free sample of the lamb and beef, and so we decided to give it a try. This place far exceeded our expectations, and in fact was better and significantly cheaper than most of the Mediterranean restaurants we have tried. We got a falafel plate and a lamb and beef plate. The falafels were not quite what I was used to, but we liked them a lot. PG’s falafel were different, kind of light and a little spongey, like angel food cake compared to regular cake. What I liked is that I could eat these without getting so full and heavy that I wanted to go home and go to sleep. As we ate more we liked it more, and the same with the hummus, this was not such a heavy version of Mediterranean food, it was lighter and very fresh. I was sold and loved it by the end of the meal. There is some Mediterranean food places with falafel and hummus where I feel heavy and stuffed sometimes for days. Whoever designed PG’s fair made a brilliant decision to cook their food like this. The salad greens were fresh, and with tomato, not just the pile of lettuce you often get in some places and not to heavy on dressing. The yogurt had bits of cucumber in it. The whole design and recipe of the food in PG’s was thoughtful and professional, and reasonably priced, so much so that it is one of the best values in what I think is decent food around. Since I am from Palo Alto, I cannot come down here as much as I would like to, but Pite Gyros is definitely on my radar and when I am in the area I will not miss a chance to go the Hillsdale Malls Food Court and get some more Pita Gyro food. I wish they would open a restaurant in the Palo Alto area … I think this is a winning take on Mediterranean food that would go over very big as fast food, but good food. And not overly filling, but still very tasty and delicious. I love pleasant surprises like this, great place, great job. 5⁄5

Stopped for a late dinner after running errands and boy o boy what a Trainwreck of a meal. It started with a cold falafel pita and one bite in, had a friggin hair in the iceberg mix. I traded for a new chicken pita. I may as well have had shredded cardboard dipped in tzatziki. No wonder there was no line. Yuck.
