Steve does a heck of a job. The other day I visited for the second time(no appointment) and was seated instantly. I came in with my hair looking like a dandelion and he whipped it into shape with a low key comb over. Probably two of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. Will be coming back every month and a half. $ 24 + tip(cash). This may seem semi high to a first timer but really it’s under priced in many many regards.

Both of the workers(Binh and Steve?) are very friendly and very attentive. They both listened to my requests and obviously put in a lot of care and attention to cutting my hair. Haircut plus tip will be about $ 25+ for the half hour or a bit more, so it’s a fair price, just not amazing. The haircut itself was pretty good. I have really annoying hair on the sides of my head that stick out a lot, but they still did a pretty good job of working with it. The place is also kept very clean and tidy. Lines can be an issue, as can parking on El Camino. Overall it’s a very solid place, and I wouldn’t mind going again.

Binh and her husband are the best. They are detail-oriented and provide excellent customer service. This is our go-to place for haircuts. 10⁄10 would highly recommend.

Great cut family shop! Have been going for years! And don’t think she can’t do a great fade or modern cut as she can! Just try and go on off times as no appointments taken!

I am generally afraid of getting haircuts. Not a phobia, just because so many barbers mess up my hair. Well, my hair is a bit tricky to cut. Anyways, I came here and got a great haircut! I am completely satisfied with the outcome and will definitely return here regularly. 5⁄7 will highly recommend.

Great owners, great haircuts. I moved back to San Mateo and tried several different places for a good haircut until I found this place. Haven’t been to another place since.

Binh and Steve are great. Binh provide excellent haircuts. Please note that she takes cash only. No debit or credit cards. Please be sure to bring cash before you go. It’s also first come first serve. I go in for a haircut. I’ve been there several times now. I get a better haircut here than I do at Supercuts, so I don’t mind driving to San Mateo. Street parking is limited along El Camino, however you may be able to find parking up the side streets in the residential areas.

Steve’s haircut is surprisingly smooth and on point. My bf came in with 5 min wait and 15 min longer faded cut on Sunday morning. The hair transition from the side to the top is almost perfect, although I wish he had cut the top shorter. Price is pretty reasonable for $ 24 before tip. It would have been a 5 star if my bf didnt come back with small pieces of hair all over his face and ears. No hair wash was included in the cut, which makes me think they should charge little less. My bf would come back regardless.

It’s been a year or two since I’ve been here but the haircuts were good. They have a large tv and play interesting stuff so waiting isn’t an issue. I like to wait for Binh

4 ½ stars. Now I haven’t been to too many different haircut places because I’ve been coming here my entire life. It’s a great family friendly place, Binh and Steve are both there most of the time. They are a nice couple who love to take interest in people’s lives. The haircut itself is pretty smooth, they actually give you a lot of options for yourself on how you want your hair to be cut. For me, the haircuts are always even and smooth. It’s a great place to get a nice haircut. The prices are reasonable for a man… $ 21 before you add tip. The only downside for this is that they don’t take appointments. So you may be stuck waiting for 45 mins at a time before you even get start your haircut. Overall it’s a great place to get a haircut if you need to. Come here and you won’t be disappointed.

Binh did a great job on my haircut. I got a high fade and it only took 25 mins. She is a total pro and a sweetheart. I will continue to use her services. Thanks Binh I stil owe you a dollar… Cash only FYI.

The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because you can’t make an appointment! I have been going to Binh’s for a couple of years now and have always been pleased with my haircut. The place is clean and bright and welcoming. You sometimes have to wait a little long because she has many regulars and of course no appointments. The price of a haircut is no higher than Supercuts or anywhere else and, you know you are going to get a good cut. My daughter is very fussy and i took her there and she was thrilled with the cut she got from Binh. It is a good place to go to.

Pros and cons. I have been looking all over the Bay Area for a reasonably cheap hair salon that will handle Asian hair for its unique frustrations(i.e. thick and more unruly than most people would think for what’s naturally straight). Pros – * impeccably clean salon. Immediately after every trim, the clippings go straight to the one dustbin near the cash register. No nonsense in that respect. * price is very reasonable for men’s haircuts, according to my boyfriend. See below about female haircuts. * very cute middle-aged couple that run the place — both are very friendly and make good conversation(Binh speaks mandarin, Cantonese and English) as they’re cutting. Love the mom-n-pop vibe of the place. * pretty detailed job — they don’t seem to use thinning shears or anything complicated but it’s a decent cut if you’re looking for simple. Binh listens and there’s no bullshit about how much you want cut off — when I said please remove 1.5 inches, I got precisely 1.5 inches. * if you’re looking for just a place to trim the fringe, I think this was the cheapest I’ve seen so far($ 8). I seriously don’t get places that charge over 10 for a bang trim, given the amount of labor and the fact that it needs to be done often if you’re not into the shaggy dog look. * It’s on El Camino Real near the 92. You’ve probably driven past it at some point if you’re local. Cons – * we haven’t had great luck with parking here. There’s the strip of sidewalk in front of the store that fits about 2 – 3 cars. The side street next to it is a cul de sac that doesn’t have much space given the duplexes that line it. * Price is a little high for a woman’s cut, but seems to be average in the Bay Area. It gets 1 dollar sign on the profile but costs more than salons in Millbrae, Oakland Chinatown and Excelsior which have 2 $$(oh self-reported user data…). I was charged 35(tip is additional), and this is without shampoo(there was a brief wetting of the hair for cutting purposes), without drying or styling(my hair was still wet when I left). It wasn’t a cut that really required any substantial styling or re-shaping of a previous cut, it pretty much was just trim the ends and bangs. Personally I think a good deal(in this area) is really 25ish for pure scissor work only, but for the convenience due to location and for the good attitude of the people who work here, I’ll take it. * cash only, don’t come surprised. * you may or may not wait. No reservations, you get served in the order you came in. I’ve been here a few times and there’s occasionally a wait. During busier times they’ll put a cute kids movie on the movie screen in the back. Nice of them to entertain waiting guests. :)

No wait for me. Excellent service. I read reviews and went right when it opened. She took me right in. She is very pleasant with appropriate conversation. Street parking, store front faces the main street. I tried to keep most of the review very descriptive and all about the hair cut that she does. I think she is great and don’t want this review to be negative… its just what I experienced and noticed. She did exactly what was mentioned in the review: She asked what I wanted and if I preferred scissors or razoring(which I thought was a little odd, but acceptable) With respect to the later, I told her I was comfortable with whatever technique best applied because everyone’s hair texture is different. Hair cut was nice and simple, but it lacks balance. She layers around, but didn’t lift the hair at the very end in the middle to be sure it was balanced all around. She didn’t bring it forward either. Either she is perfect, but I checked and its close but not quite balanced on each side. Similarly, bangs weren’t balanced as well. One side is much longer than the other. I came in with a side part and she never adjusted it or moved the hair to check that both sides were the same in length. Cost was $ 35 without wash and without any blow drying. Not the same price that I’ve been reading with reviews. We did discuss what I do for work during our conversations, not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I really should just say I’m a student. My hair isn’t that long or think, but she may be on a price raise. You can see my photo… its similar. Posted pricing says $ 27 and up. Usually my hair is around the range of the price listed because it isn’t a cut that requires much design just the usual layering and balancing. Overall, what you get here is a basic cut with layers that lacks the basic balance that any hair cut needs. I’ve been to places that charge $ 25 for cuts in LA and Vegas(my LA place would also wash and dry, but not Vegas), this is far more elementary in technique. I would not say its a bad cut, I would just recommend being aware of what you’re getting into. I saw her balance a couple times by pulling pieces of hair forward but not often. Most people that cut hair will balance all around to be sure its the same length when it grows out. Also at the very end of most of my hair cuts, the stylist will gather the hair on top and lift upwards to see if there any strays. She didn’t do that. She mainly just cut around the ends with a razor. I’m nervous for how it’ll grow because of this. Overall, its not a bad cut but you need to know what to expect so that you can make the right decision.

Wanted a super cheap haircut and Unilocaled hair salons in San Mateo with the $ filter. Binhs was the first place that popped up! Binh is absolutely lovely, listens to your haircut directions, and the price was reasonable — $ 33 to cut off a bulk of my hair. I am pretty satisfied which is not something I often feel after a haircut as I’m pretty hard to please. So that being said she had met my high haircut standards and I would def recommend!

Binh is really nice but the down side is that she doesn’t take appointments. This results in you waiting for 30mins — hour to get your haircut. Not only that, but if someone loud comes in after you, expect to get rushed through. I kept an eye on the clock this time because last time, I was rushed through. Today’s haircut took 5 mins. Yes 5 mins…(after a 45 min wait) For $ 20, that’s about ~$ 5/min(including tip) and yes, the results do show. I can see parts unbalanced and not blended. I’d rather go to a place that charges $ 30 but has 30 mins allocated for me. Gives me a careful haircut, and shampoo in 30 mins and ends up costing $ 1/min. – For people that don’t like to schedule appointments and have a more«on-the-go» type lifestyle, this is the place for you.
