Best Thai food I’ve had in years. Came in and was sat immediately. Staff was friendly and fast. Our food was ready in minutes and tasted amazing. Ordered: soup and Pad Thai. Soooo good and a large portion. Can’t wait to go back! 6 stars.

This is some very tasty Thai food in North County. I stopped in here to get some takeout and was pleasantly surprised. I had the Pad Si Ew lunch special, which comes with a choice of side(I chose the spring rolls because the fresh rolls have some not-so-great reviews on here). The spice was exactly how I specified and the portions were good for a lunch special price. I would definitely come back here. It isn’t the best Thai I have found, but it is probably the best for the price.

Came here once for dining in and once to order takeout. Great service, nice décor and details. The server greeted us with a smile and was attentive to our needs. I really like the design of their menu. We were seated by the large glass window and it’s fun to look out and see what’s happening at the busy intersection of Rancho Santa Fe and San Marcos Blvd. Their food was not bad but definitely not the best in the neighborhood. The noodle soup was pretty bland and disappointing; its broth lacked flavor. That was a simple lunch that we had that day in the restaurant. The second time I came for their drunken noodles to go. It was pretty decent and their prices were slightly less than some other Thai restaurants in the area, but it’s definitely not dirt cheap. I’m not sure if I want to give them a 3rd try, but given that their location is very convenient on two main streets, I might just stop by again on my way home for some Thai takeout again…

Spicy Thai food is one of my favorites. Let me summarize my experience here. Eat Instantly got diarrhea Paid $ 60 for that diarrhea Spent the night in the bathroom Save yourself some money and just come here for the Thai tea because that was the only good thing.

dear mgmt(bill), you REALLY need to have your kitchen learn the concept of «sense of urgency». from the time we ordered, it took about 40 mins for everyone’s entrée to be brought to our table. also, the kitchen broke a cardinal rule of restaurant service: serve all the entrees on a ticket ATTHESAMETIME. my wife’s entrée came out first. 15 mins later, my entrée came out. 5 mins later, my kids entrees came out. HORRIBLE. lastly, the kitchen neglected to add ANY spice to our entrees. i ordered my noodles with spicy #4, and got zilch, nada. i know this because my wife(who doesn’t like food too spicy) tasted my dish, and confirmed there was absolutely NOSPICE. she ordered her own noodles with spicy #1, and also got zilch. my son ordered the beef larp salad with spicy #1, and got zilch as well. we know this for a fact, because it tasted NODIFFERENT than the beef larp(with NOSPICE) that my daughter ordered. over the course of the last 12 months, we’ve eaten here about 4 times. i can honestly say that all 4 times: the kitchen staff’s lack of urgency ruined our dining experience. the 1 star i gave is for 2 reasons: 1) the wait staff is good. realizing that we’re waiting forever for our food, they comped us an app(and eventually also comped our sides of rice). not sure how the kitchen was able to rush-out the app, when they were so far behind on our entrees. screw the app; get us our food!!! 2) the actual taste of the food is on-point. if they can only remember to spice our food… on a final note, there was a video playing on the tv. the video was random concert footage… appeared to have been shot on a iphone(or camcorder). if the intent of the video is to provide some ambiance, i recommend playing an ACTUAL concert video(aka– BUY an actual concert video, and not show a bootleg). show an episode of thailand from national geographic, nature, food network, travel channel, or something like that. showing anything short of that is just cheesy. you’re better off turning the tv off instead of playing that cheesy bootleg concert video…

clean nicely decorated place. friendly service. yellow curry was more spicy than it was flavorful. all veggies seemed pre-frozen. shrimp was fairly fresh. pad thai was a little gummy. beef in multiple dishes was tough. overall, flavor was mediocre.

This is our new favorite Thai place. I have to say, way better than Koon Thai in Covoy and King and I next to the movie theater in San Marcos. Some people posted the negative reviews but I would have to say that Thai food should be fishy, hahaha. I understood everybody has different taste. Their Tom Kah was perfect. We chose level 5, it was not salty. And so tasty. That was exactly what I expected. My boyfriend got Poh Tak and it looked so authentic. The mussels were huge and so tasty. The waitress said she got this at the seafood market. The service was good too. The waitress was so friendly and suggestive. We got Chicken Larb, Tom Kah, Poh Tak, lunch size drunkun noodle and Massamun Curry and spent $ 64. Side note, you won’t be able to find the Thai restaurant which has Massamum curry on the menu. It totally worth:)

Loved every bite of it! The only thing I hated was that the food was so good I couldn’t stop eating. I ate too much! Went there by mistake. The Thai place we usually go to was closed and we were really in a mood for Thai food. I am really happy we found Onny’s! Loved, loved, loved them! Where to begin?! The place is small but very nice and clean, a very interesting mixture of industrial and Thai. I liked it. Service was GREAT! Super nice, quick, friendly, welcoming, etc… loved it! Got to talk to the owners too. Very nice folks! Felt very homey. Food was exceptional! We ordered egg rolls and the family size wanton soup while we were waiting for the main dishes. Both were awesome! In fact, the wanton soup was one of the best I’ve ever had. It came in one of those dishes with the fire in the middle to keep it warm. I ate myself sick! Our main dishes were pad wan sen(glass noodles with chicken and veggies) and pad asparagus with shrimp. Oh my… I was initially not sure about the tomatoes in my dish but they were sooooo good! Light flavors, light sesame flavor, everything was cooked fantastic! I seriously ate myself sick! My husband had the shrimp dish and loved it! I am so happy we found this place! I am not sure why it’s getting only 4 stars. We’ll need to go back few more times and try other dishes but for our first time here — everything we were served was amazing! I have no complaints whatsoever. They get full five stars from me. We’ll be back!

This place is delicious! Our service was great, the staff was very polite and attentive. The owner seems very genuine, and nice. We had just the right amount of food, it was a huge portion… but not too much! The food was high quality. We highly recommend to everyone who’s looking for a good Thai place.

Food is good. Ordered yellow Curry with chicken. Very little chicken. So little I think they forgot to add. And was cold, had reheat when we got home. Pad sew we was delicious, just the right amount of spice.

Well… I had high hopes for this place. Our family loves Thai food and have eaten it extensively in Thailand and elsewhere around the Asia. We’ve been looking for a go-to Thai place in Carlsbad for the last two years and we were hoping this would be it. Sadly, Onny’s Thai is not what we had hoped. We ordered three dishes — Pad Thai, Massamun Curry and Chicken Wings. All were a little underwhelming. The curry was spicy but lacking flavor and had oddly cooked vegetables. A lot of undercooked pieces of onion(some pieces green), lots of carrots and the usual potatoes — but no pineapple. The curry sauce itself was a little acidic and lacking depth, perhaps could have used some more coconut cream/milk and fish sauce. The Pad Thai was all noodles and meat, with the more subtle ingredients like green onion, egg and bean curd all but non-existent. The noodles were slightly greasy and undercooked, and it was heavy on tamarind sugar. Chicken wings were OK but for some reason were breadcrumbed(katsu style) which is uncommon for Thai restaurants. One more thing to mention is that they ask about the spice level you want in your dish. I requested 3⁄10 for both the curry and Pad Thai but received a curry that was at least a 4 – 5 and the Pad Thai was right at about a 2 – 3. My 10 year old who does well with spicy food was really struggling with the curry. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be coming back here. We really wanted to like this place(the people are super nice!) but dish for dish, it’s actually not as good as The King & I or even Thai Pasta.

Ordered some fried rice for take out and was treated to a free IPA sample by a very friendly gentlemen, I want to say it was the owner. This is my second time visiting. First time I had the pad Thai. It was very delicious & is the reason I’m visiting again. Both times the staff has been A++, friendly and polite. Only thing that could make this place a full win for me, would be if they offered a half order on spring rolls. Both times I have visited I wanted some to go with my meal but a full order would be a bit too much food. I’m sure others would like to see that option offered as well. The place is very clean and I like the relaxed lighting. Saw a lot of local brewery beverages on tap and bottled. Nice place to have a drink over some dinner. I would recommend.

I came here for dinner and am happy that I found a nice and awesome place to have a sit down dinner for Thai food. Most of the places that’s located near me are mainly quick fast food places that just bust it out, but Onny’s Thai really takes a good craft in their food. I came and started my dinner with an order of the Vegetarian Fresh Rolls. Now I had to ask for clarification on this part so don’t get confused between the Spring Rolls and the Fresh Rolls! The Spring rolls are more of an eggroll where the Fresh Rolls are the ones wrapped in the whiteish/clear rice paper! I mush say though, after having a bite into the Fresh Roll, I felt nice and fresh! Super delicious veggies and just over all and nice clean crisp taste. The peanut sauce is also very flavorful. For my dinner I ordered a Pad See Ew with pork. I love the thicker noodles and try to make my belly think I get more full from the thicker noodles. Ha. Great taste and flavor as well as veggies mixed within the noodles. For a drink, I ordered a Thai Tea. This is served in an awesome tall glass, but it makes it kinda hard to mix without getting some ice on the table(Maybe it was just me.) I sat outside when I was here and with the winter nights, be sure to bring a jacket cause it can get chilly and be sure you like cars. The tables are set up near the road, so you’ll be able to hear the cars driving by. The indoor setting looked nice, but a little small. I know it was their space that was given with but I did like that they have setting at a bar like area for any single people. Overall, I would say that I had a great time here and would come back.

I saw this place a long time ago, but it wasn’t open at that time. Well, I just discovered it’s open and this place is fantastic! The waitress was warm and welcoming, the food was excellent! So I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai at a heat level of #7. It came out and had about 6 shrimp, fresh bean sprouts, peanuts, and a lime wedge. It had a delicious and thai peanutty taste especially after I squeezed my lime all over the plate. It was the lunch special so it came with soup and either a fried spring roll or fresh roll, which is what I opted for. The mint in these fresh rolls is what gets me. Such a refreshing taste. Just a slight problem, they made the wrong dish so I had to wait a little longer for my food and they gave me a fried spring roll when I asked for a fresh roll. Semantics, really! In the meatime, another 6 Hunter employees came through the doors. Maybe we should have our next Hunter party catered from this place. Just a thought! My co-worker ordered Green Curry with Eggplant and brown rice. There were so many vegetables in this curry that it made up for the fact that there were only two pieces of eggplant. A little dissapointing, but the flavors are there. She really dug into the curry broth, which was creamy and coconutty and spicy! She said she loved it and will definitely being going back. Things to keep in mind: 1. The portions are huge so have an appetite. 2. Ordering a dish as a #1 for spice level, doesn’t really come out as a #1. My co-worker’s dish came out at about a #5. It was spicy. 3. Ordering a dish as a #7, doesn’t really come out as a #7. My dish came out at about a #3. But do you see how many stars I gave this Thai place? The mishaps just don’t matter, the food is that good. It’s way better than the thai place I’ve been going to, which I will never go to again! Just sayin’!

I’ve seen the restaurant when passing by and stopped at a business nearby. I happen to be passing by again just at about lunch time, and decided to stop in. A friendly greet was there as I entered(a plus in my book!) the business. I was seated at a two person table. Place an order from the lunch special(11am-3-pm, weekdays), Fried Rice w/chicken(meat extra cost) with the spice level at 5(1 – 10 spice level). My side choice I selected was the crispy chicken. My drink and food was brought to me within 5 – 7 minutes from the time I place order. I believe my arrival time was 11:45am. It did begin to fill up with the lunch crowd quickly. The entire time I was there, I saw only one server. The fried rice was nicely formed on my plate. It had great flavor and the spice level was perfect. I found a good amount of chicken pieces in each bite. The portion of the rice was more than I could eat, and I could eat a lot. The only thing about rice, it seemed really soggy. I know sticky rice and it wasn’t sticky it was more wet. The salad that came as part of the lunch special was nothing special, iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato or two. It had some dressing poured over it. I think it would be better to serve the salad on a separate bowl or plate because the dressing mixed with my fried rice. I’m one of those people that don’t like flavors to mix, or cold temp mixing with hot food. My side choice, crispy chicken was one piece of battered chicken wing placed next to a piece of battered broccoli. It was crispy and tasty. My drink, Thai Iced Tea, was good. **** I have to point out that the table I sat at was not balanced. So every time I leaned on it to eat it would move. Very annoying, definitely a pet peeve for me. *** Owners: Please take care of the problem, otherwise I will ask for a handful of your napkins that you pay for and place it under the foot of the table. Won’t that look lovely? Waiting for the bill took awhile, while the one server, was tending to the two large lunch group that came in and also passing and taking care of other bills. She did apologize for the wait and still had a good attitude given that she had to run around and take care of everyone Just a few bumps, but it won’t keep me from returning. I just have to say, the friendly service just makes all the little bumps kind of fade away.

This is a fairly new Thai location, with unique appeal. we had to check it out. Very clean, neat, and tastefully decorated in Thai style, small place as expected, but seats probably 30. Immediate, welcoming service! Handed some very unique and beautiful menus promptly with a smile;) ordered appetizers of Spring Rolls and Fried Calamari, perfect! Beef Pad Thai and Chicken Pineapple Rice– both, very tasty and traditional. Beef was a bit tough, but satisfied with dish. Tom Ka soup was excellent! Nice selection of wine and beer. Definitely will be back! Prices are competitive. Excellent service! Thank you Onny!

10.95 for beef pad see ew take out. Like another review said probably a 1 dollar takeout charge. Was just ok. Was a bit soggy. Decent portions. Nice cashier girl. Maybe the locals will like this place. But I’m comparing to places in LA and Vegas or sab-e-lee.

My wife and I came here for lunch on a Monday. We came early around 11:30 and there was no one else in the restaurant. By the time we left, after noon, the place was bustling with busy tables and people waiting for to-go orders. We ordered the Create Your Own Lunch special: choice of Vegetable, Tofu, Chicken, Beef or Pork(Prawns or Calamari extra), then choose how you want it prepared. They can do Stir-Fry, Curry style or with Noodles. My wife chose Chicken Pad Thai(5 spicy) and I chose Chicken Red Curry(8 spicy). They each came with a side-dish: choice of Spring Roll, Spicy Wing, Fresh Roll or Butterfly Shrimp. I chose the Fresh Roll and my wife chose the Spring Roll. The meals also came with a side salad. Key points to mention: * Very distinctive menus & décor * Large heaping servings of Pad Thai * Curry spicy level 8 was very good — not too spicy * Bottled beers and on tap including Iron Fist * Reasonable prices. 2 entrees total = $ 19 We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunches and would come back again.
