My husband and I were wanting something quaint for our anniversary dinner. Not a big chain; something special with great food and nice atmosphere. We stumbled upon this place and I’m so glad we did!!! The wait staff was exceptional. The food was perfect. It was authentic, fresh, and brought to our table in a timely manner. Both of us enjoyed our meal and will certainly come back again sometime.

This is our favorite restaurant in St. Louis, located on Gravois just East of Lindbergh. The food is always perfect – taste and presentation. The proprietor greets you like family! A great place for fine dining romance or to enjoy with a few friends. Every dish is scrumptious, it is difficult to select a favorite. You have to try this place! I promise you will return!!!

Had lunch with a party of 7. I was looking for something local, not a typical chain, and read the reviews on Unilocal. All were good, which is rare, but it lives up to the reviews. The toasted ravioli was excellent, along with the salad. I asked for sangria which wasn’t on the drink list, and the waiter said he could make it for me. It was also excellent. Service was really good. We live in Florida and visit St. Louis often, and will come back.

I always like to come here and eat when I’m in town. I think the food is absolutely terrific. I travel a lot and have tasted my share of Italian food. St. Louis absolutely has some of the best. I laugh when I read reviews about dishes being skimpy. Most people don’t know that small portions and small plates is how fine dining is served especially in Europe. The days of big bowls of pasta and having left overs are over. It’s not healthy either! At trattoria toscana, I know the food is fresh, the service is great and the portions are more than enough. I love going to an establishment and being waited on by someone who actually cares and wants to take care of you! Customer service where the wait staff clears your dirty dishes, isn’t texting, or making plans for what they are doing after work! The prices are great. Travel to the east or west coast then you will see what pricey is all about! I continue to support this local business and suggest that you do as well! The over priced chain establishments are nothing compared to a local business that actually wants to please the customer! Every one has a bad day once in a while so don’t base a review off of a one time experience then blog about the crappy establishment. If you have a complaint talk to the management rather than writing about how much of a bad time you had. You try running a fine dining place. There you have it my thoughts. Take it for what it’s worth. Try this place you won’t be disappointed!

My husband and I visited Trattoria Toscana for dinner the other night while on vacation in St. Louis. I found them through Groupon, where it was mentioned that they offered gluten free options. I have Celiac disease, which makes dining out both a challenge and a risk — ingesting even a trace of gluten can leave me sick in bed for days. But I read good things, so I decided to give them a shot. I was a little unsure when we arrived, as the building and interior are a little dated. However, our meal here was easily the best of the vacation. Maggie, our waitress, was truly exceptional. From the moment I told her about my restrictions, she went above and beyond to make sure every part of my meal was perfect and safe. She even checked into items on the menu that most people would assume are gluten free, such as the mashed potatoes and salad dressing. All of the food was delicious and I didn’t once have to worry about getting sick afterwards. The Groupon voucher made it an excellent value, but if we lived nearby we would definitely be regulars here, discount or not.

Sat at the bar waiting for my friend to arrive. Had some cold Peroni’s and watched a little basketball. Staff was very friendly and seems to have a lot of regulars and they called many by name. The food was very good and will go back again. Nice to be able to relax, not get blasted with loud music and be among some great people.

Being an Italian myself, I got mad love for olive garden even tho I don’t care for olives. An abundance of bread stix, fresh salad and all the pasta u can handle makes them the place for me. Olive garden, I will be back for u, my delicious authentic love! Anton

Like Tom Hagen from«The Godfather» I’m of German-Irish descent, so I don’t have an Italian grandmother to feed me family recipes that she brought over from the old country. Luckily, now that Trattoria Toscana has entered my life, I don’t need one. Housed in an unassuming building on Gravois, Trattoria Toscana is what I want every Italian restaurant to be. The space is nothing fancy — it’s comfortable and familiar — and not trying too hard. It makes you feel welcome, and there’s nothing more relaxing than that. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. They pay attention when you need them to and stay away when it’s clear you don’t. Once, when they were out of the wine we wanted, the owner brought us a comparable bottle from his secret stash. That is good customer service. And now to the food. Ah, the glorious food! The salad is fresh and light, and actually has greens in it, rather than simply being an iceberg afterthought. I must admit that I get the same pasta each time I go here, because the lobster ravioli is a revelation. My husband is a huge fan of the linguine con vongole, and others who we’ve brought into the fold have each enjoyed everything they’ve had.
I used to feel left out when my friends would brag on the homemade fettuccine alla puttanesca that Nonna would make them for Sunday dinner. Now I have the upper hand, because Chef Tika makes my pasta, and I don’t have to wash the dishes afterward.

Tonight was absolutely a poor experience. The staff was not willing to correct a mistake. We walked away perplexed. We will never go back and this is sad because we live a quarter mile away. Poor management! Prior to our visit this evening, we had enjoyed our times at this establishment. They were rude and so unaccommodating. Their calamari was frozen and they did not have any when we ordered. Twenty minutes after we ordered it, the table next to us received an order… they said they had thawed it out and cooked it. I thought they did not have any. Weird

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover… this place is great! We went in for a late dinner and were very surprised at how friendly and attentive everyone was. The food was served promptly and we never had to ask for anything. We will be back!

We went on a Wednesday, my wife had a chicken and pasta special and I had the chicken spedini at the recommendation of the waiter, Sonny. He was right! As my wife said, it was ridiculously delicious. The staff was prompt, attentive, and friendly. The dining area was clean and tastefully decorated. The Pinot Grigio was terrific. All in all, a top notch experience, comparable to much more expensive restaurants. 5 stars!

This was an amazing experience. First, the atmosphere reminds you of being at a friend’s house for dinner. Everyone was comfortable and so cozy. Sonny was our waiter and he made us feel welcome and took very good care of us the whole evening. He is a definite asset to this restaurant. The Moscato D’Asti was intoxicating. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli and my husband ordered Chicken Spedini. Both were delicious. The sauces were so rich and the flavors were perfectly blended. Half way through the meal a manager or owner came around carrying a glass of wine and talking to people at every table. I would have given it 5 stars except the salad and cheesecake were not stellar. However, it was so minor thst it didn’t really matter. We will go back.

What a fantastic experience! We just happened to luck into this gem of restaurant on a cold Thursday evening and what a treat! Being a life-long St. Louis resident, I felt as if I had had a vast experience with good Italian food. I had obviously missed the best until we came here. Aside from FABULOUS service from our waiter(Connor) all of wait staff was BEYOND perfection. The anticipated our every need and when the food arrived it was hot, visually appealing and DELICIOUS! I had the linguine primavera and my husband had the chicken Parmesan. Both were cooked to perfection with the vegetables being fresh-cut and crisp-tender. Even though this is about a 45 minute drive from our home, we will be back! Thank you for a delightful evening!

I’ve been here numerous times for lunch and only a few times for dinner. This place has the best tortellini I’ve ever had. The sauce has a hint of sherry to give it an extra boost of flavor. The tilapia with mushrooms and spinach is also a great dish. This time I went for dinner and I got the strip steak and the wife got the chicken Romano, which was like saltimboca. The steak was decent, but nothing to get too excited about. The sauce on the chicken dish was flavorful but the chicken itself was a bit bland. Since we were there for our anniversary, they have us an order of tiramisu which was very good.

I absolutely LOVE Italian food, but love Trattoria Toscana, I did not. I had been looking forward to giving this place a try for quite some time after reading some of the great reviews. It became a permanent fixture on my bookmark list, so when I saw it on Groupon, I snatched it up and off my husband and I went. My first impression, based on looks alone, was just alright. Nothing really wowed me about the place… It was nice, but boring. Our service was great throughout the night though. Our waiter was very polite, food came out in a timely manner, and our drinks were never empty. I don’t love good Italian meals simply because of the atmosphere or service though… I love the FOOD!!! Unfortunately, that’s where this place fell short. My husband usually enjoys a toasted ravioli appetizer, but when we asked if they were homemade, our server went to the kitchen to ask and came back to tell us they are frozen. These frozen t-ravs are $ 9.00… a price I found to be a bit steep considering you can enjoy them fresh and homemade on The Hill for less. All of the meals, both pastas and entrees, include a house salad. So, we passed on the frozen appetizer and started our meal here. These salads were nothing to write home about though. The house was very bland… greens with a very skimpy amount of shredded mozzarella and onion, and ¼ of one tomato slice. They couldn’t even spare an entire slice? The dressing on this salad was mostly olive oil… not much flavor to it at all. Compared to my husband’s caesar salad, however, my salad was amazing. The caesar was so salty he couldn’t even eat it, and unfortunately we were up-charged for that salty salad. The pasta I chose was decent… linguine in a red sauce with mushrooms, spinach, and sun dried tomato. My husband went with chicken parmesan, and once again, he got the short end of the stick. The sauce totally tasted like canned Hunt’s, and it came with a side of mashed potato and a carrot /green bean medley. Strange. When my husband asked if he could get a side of pasta instead, which is what you would normally find paired with the chicken parm, he was told it could be done for yet another up-charge. No thanks. My husband said it best when he mentioned that without the Groupon, he would’ve felt like he didn’t get his money’s worth from this dinner. The overpriced, mediocre, frozen food… and being and nickeled and dimed for everything… will keep us from giving Trattoria Toscana a second try.

My boyfriend and I had never heard of this restaurant but found a 50% off Groupon so we decided to give it a try for date night. This place is truly wonderful!!! Beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, and absolutely delicious food. They had two incredible specials: Linguine with scallops and lobster tail and Shrimp stuffed trout both were perfectly cooked and exceptionally seasoned. Highly recommend. We will definitely go back!

Looking for an alternative to the chain Italian restaurants in South County I came here with some family a couple of weeks ago. Old school pretty much describes this Italian(Bosnian?) restaurant. Dimly lit, uninspired decors, wait staff in black and white, and a small bar right by the front door. Despite the meh interior I was excited to not be at a Pasta House or a Macaroni Grill. The service was impeccable. Water glasses always full, plenty of bread, salads came out quickly. The most important part of an Italian meal is the pasta. In this restaurant if you want pasta with your chicken parm, or marsala you have to pay extra for it. Otherwise it comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables. If you like that I recommend this place because otherwise everything seemed much better than a chain. I have no interest in returning, but if I was taken to dinner there I wouldn’t whine.
