This place is nice for small groups. It gets a little crammed on weekends, because you can’t really hang out comfortably at the bar while you’re waiting for a table. You will end up getting jostled around and we had to wait for a while before we got a table. The portion size was good and the food tasted good. We had the ribs and the wings with a couple of sides and it was reasonable.

Great spot for some unique eats! Meatloaf was great! Juicy and flavorful. And if you get that, you HAVE to get the onion mashed potatoes. Tri-tip was good, very tender, but not lacking some flavor. Cornbread was good, but a bit dry. Definitely needed the honey butter help. Pulled pork was also a great option!

Do not miss the smothered fries. Also the ribs are are easily as good as Bogart’s or Pappy’s but very unique and distinct from either of these BBQ titans. We tried the house salad with BBQ chicken, the tri– tip sandwich and the ribs. All especially delicious food! Seems like a true chef is in the kitchen making this food really special AND fantastic, when it would be easy enought to just make this comfort of food yummy. One minor note: the side of baked beans was pretty average. Nothing compares to Bogart’s beans… But everything else was truly amazing, and their sauces are great. Also, the staff is fantastic and the vibe is really lively and fun(live music and a 30 minute wait on a Tuesday night!!) Very cool spot. If you like BBQ, I insist that you go here!

The Shaved Duck was a delicious staple for when I frequented the Tower Grove area for a few months. Their Moscow Mules were lovely, as were their Tequila Sunrises — paired with a plate of Loaded Vegetable Potato Wedges, my boyfriend and I happily wandered back home, later wishing we had gotten another order of the wedges to go. The service is what truly made us return customers to this place(lets be honest, it would be easy to recreate Veggie and Cheese Wedges at home). The multiple times we frequented The Shaved Duck we were waited on by friendly servers who were helpful and kind. If you’re in the area, stop in and have a drink and some fantastic BBQ with one of their many unique sauces.

Amazing bbq! They told us there would be a 60 minute wait but it was really only 35 minutes. I had a Seattle Cider Co berry cider to start which was dry and delicious. I then got the combo platter with tri tip, pulled pork, and pulled chicken with Mac and cheese as the side. The chicken was a little dry but definitely still tasty. The tri top had a good steak-y texture, and the pulled pork was excellent. The Mac and cheese had that American cheese«slimy» texture but was super tasty. I tried my dinner companion’s smoked duck breast which was incredible — I’ll definitely be getting that on my return visit. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and made good food and drink recommendations. The outdoor seating is spacious and pleasant, and tonight’s beautiful weather helped too.

One of the best BBQ meals I have ever had. My wife and I ordered pulled pork and chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. Phenomenal. Every thing about the food. We are looking for a reason to get back to St Louis just to eat.

Nestled at the corner between some houses in a quaintly gentrified neighborhood, you’ll find the Shaved Duck. If you’re like me, you’ve probably seen this place on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and therefore, are thinking about visiting here. We ordered the smothered fries which was a much smaller proportion than witnessed on the episode but nonetheless extremely tasty. Next we ordered the cornbread. Blehhhhhh. Was dry and dull tasting. My boxed Jiffy brand cornbread I buy at Aldi tastes a lot better. We also ordered the flat bread pulled pork. Very good. And the full rack of baby back ribs. Very thick meated ribs. A lot of meat! They were tender but I thought the«smokey bbq» flavor was a little lacking. Finally, our fat asses ordered the gooey butter cake brownie. Very small portion. But very sweetly delicious. All in all, we may go back if for nothing else the smothered fries! Our waiter, Gabriel, was extremely pleasant and kind. Five stars for him!

We saw this baby on Man vs Food and could not resist trying it out. We went in on a rainy day and they were still busy. My husband and I typically do not like crowds but the quaintness of this place did not bother us and the food was amazing. It has been awhile and I cannot wait to go back.

This place is incredible. It doesn’t get better. And before you read on I will tell you to absolutely get the brownie with the butter cake for dessert and the caramelized onion mashed potatoes. They are phenomenal and there is nothing else in this world you will ever have to eat. The hostess wasn’t really the nicest, but the food and waiter made up for everything. We were a big party and half of us were ready(the other half was finding parking and came in 2 minutes after we did) and they not only wouldn’t seat us, but wouldn’t even put our name on the list and we had gotten there just before 5:00PM. In that 2 minutes, so many other people walked in and filled up all the tables that it turned into an hour wait by the time our party was together and ready to be sat all at once. We wanted to eat here so bad that we dealt with splitting our party up and sitting at separate tables outside, but the hostess did little to accommodate us and kind of made us feel like we were a burden. We were a giant party of 10 that ordered drinks and appetizers and dessert, so it was definitely a tip they wanted to get. The food was incredible though and that is all that matters. We had the cornbread and I had a full rack of ribs which were so delicious. There really is nothing better. The potatoes, again, were probably the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth. You absolutely have to forego any other thought you are having and get them.

I was pleasantly surprised by the selection on The Shaved Duck’s menu. I am a pescatarian and typically the only option barbeque restaurants have to eat are boring sides. When I realized The Shaved Duck had plenty of options I was more keen to going. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and our bartenders/waitresses Krista and Heather were spectacular. I asked for a concoction with cucumber vodka and was amazed at the quality and craftsmanship of the drink. Their Loaded Vegetable Potato Wedges made me do a second take. The smokiness of the vegetables made me think I was eating meat. After my suspicions were wrong, I dug into my Vegetable and Smoked Mozzarella Sandwich. Holy Cow was it good! The side I choose was the Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes. again stunning. My boyfriend opted for the Slow Smoked Duck Breast with Mac n’ Cheese and was not disappointed. The only reason I could see someone giving this place less than 5 stars is if you are in a hurry. We were here for a leisurely evening and enjoyed every second of it.

I can’t say that it was worth the 90-minute wait, but my meal was certainly very, very good. Or at least the meat components were, and that’s why we go to The Shaved Duck anyway, right? Especially the meatloaf – yes, the meatloaf! My friend and I split the cornbread and 3-rib appetizers. The cornbread was a wee bit dry, but very good, and the ribs had that wonderful crust and juicy interior for which you hope. Done and done. We then each ordered the three-meat plates, which is where I really came out on top with my choices. I figured that a place with this much hype that offered meatloaf on the menu probably wouldn’t do so unless it were very, VERY good. I figured right. Wow. Nice, caramelized crust and so juicy and flavorful inside. It barely needed the sauce that came with it. As for the rest of my plate, I ordered burnt ends, tri-tip, and the side of brussels sprouts. The side was kind of mushy and forgettable, not to mention very stingily portioned. The burnt ends were overly sauced but fine. The tri-tip, though, was pretty darn good even without one of the four bbq sauces with which the tables come stocked. Speaking of those sauces, none of them blew me away. I was disappointed that the mango habanero wasn’t at all spicy, and the other three were very, very salty, which REALLY stood out when I tried to put some on my leftover tri-tip the following day. I also tried my friend’s pulled pork – somewhat bland, but juicy – and mac and cheese side – solid. We finished by splitting the bread pudding – insanely good, but barely big enough to share, which was actually fine under the circumstances. Anyway, I wholeheartedly endorse the ribs, meatloaf, and dessert. If there’s a next time, perhaps I’ll branch out to the duck chili. Bonus points for GREAT service. Just go have a drink somewhere else while you wait. No big deal.

We made the mistake of coming to the Shaved Duck before 5PM, when all of their really interesting items come onto the menu. The ribs: super juicy, nice hot sauces to douse on them, but not needed. Not as good as Pappy’s, about as good as the Sugarfire ribs that we ate a few days later. The brisket and the pulled pork: Noone tried it, what a shame! Actually, the brisket was not being offered before 5PM, so we had no possibility. I thought my confit on greens was one of the nicest pairings that I had in my week in St. Louis. The mac-n-cheese I have to comment upon because it was delectable, and unorthodox as made with shells. So good that I slurped the cheesy remnants out of the bowl when my kid was done with it. They only have like 4 taps at this joint, which is a pretty sorry state of affairs. I have to say, in a week in St. Louis I was impressed by pretty much everything I put in my mouth(well, with the exception of Provel cheese), but I was seriously underwhelmed by the beer culture there. This is the home of Anheuser-Busch, one of the big German immigrant communities in the Midwest, and it used to have the largest brewery in the whole freaking country! I looked everywhere, but I just did not see the profusion of beer choices that one sees literally everywhere in Portland, Maine, even in tiny Kennebunkport. But the food at the Shaved Duck was very impressive indeed, probably the best meal that I had anywhere in the city. Very cool location, too.

I’ve been here three times now and each time just keeps getting better. The wait can be long but it’s always worth it, going early is always better because sometimes the line will wind out the door. I’ve had(in order of deliciousness) the pulled chicken sandwich, jalapeño creamed corn side, duck and smoked jalapeño chili, the duck confit and smoked mozzarella flatbread, smoked chicken wings and the duck confit. That’s not to say the duck confit is not up to par because it certainly is but the others I certainly dwell on more, and always want to go back for. My friends who eat beef and pork and have tried the other items swear by this place for delicious barbecue which can be hard to find outside of Kansas City, but this place gives KC a run for its money. Will definitely be back soon and often!

I LOVE the food at the Shaved Duck but damn, that line gets long. They won’t seat you unless you have your full party, so no use in sending anyone ahead to grab a table. It’s not so bad in nice weather when you can grab a beer at the bar and wait outside, but it’s deafening during the winter when everyone is crammed into the bar space up front. Plan accordingly but it’s well worth it!

What an amazing experience of a meal! A colleague suggested we check it out for dinner, so we went around 5:30. Already, the dining room was full and we had to sit at a tall table near the bar. It was a great spot for watching the residential street and people walking their dogs. As our amazing meal progressed, more and more people entered the establishment, trying to get a seat. By 7pm it was nearly impossible for our waitress to get to us, but no one was put off by the wait. Apparently, it’s a regular occasion on any day of the week, so make sure you get there early or call for a reservation. Almost everything on the menu had something smoked, so it was really hard to choose between all of the delicious options. We ended up getting duck confit as an appetizer — a very well smoked and slow cooked duck leg on a bed of lettuce. A bit hard to share, but incredibly tasty. Highly recommend. I had half a chicken, smoked and roasted. That chicken was tender and smoky on the inside, covered with thin, seasoned, crunchy skin. It smelled and tasted like heaven. The dish comes with 1 side, additional is $ 2.99. I got mac n cheese and Brussels sprouts, both cooked to perfection and flavorful. My colleague had a choice of 2 meats, pulled pork and beef tips, and was pretty happy with it. I ordered 4 Hands Absence of Light with my meal — a peanut butter chocolate milk stout. If you like stouts, it’s a must try. And if you like smoked meats, Shaved Duck needs to be on your list.

One of the best BBQ I’ve had in a very long time. If you plan on coming here, download the NoWait App. They use the app for their tables and text you when your table is ready. Before you come to Shaved Duck, go on the app and place yourself in line before heading over there. The app also tells you their current wait time. We didn’t look at the app and waited for 2 hours for this place. It was worth the wait. The place is super small and not a lot of seating. I believe when it’s warmer out, that people can eat on the benches. I ordered the Tri Tip sandwich with Mac n cheese. The BBQ was cooked perfectly and all their sauces that they’ve on your table were delicious. The Mac N cheese was very creamy and cheesy. Very delicious food. We also ordered the half roasted chicken with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes was creamy and flavorful. The roasted chicken was great with the Black Smokey Sauce(I think that’s what it’s called). I would def come back here again and i would wait for this kind of food. Highly recommend.

Timed this perfectly– pulled up at 3:45 and people were just starting to arrive. We were the 3rd table seated and within 10 minutes there was a wait. This is in 15 degree temperatures! The place was PACKED when we left an hour later. The smothered fries were everything I dreamt about(more pulled pork on them would have been awesome). The ribs were killer, as were the BBQ sauces! I got the Mac and cheese on the side and it was sooo creamy and delish! Love the vibe of this place and the atmosphere. This is a must!

It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. We had a script and we were going to follow it. My brother and I were still making our way through Kansas on our cross country drive when we were researching top notch barbecue joints in St. Louis, MO. Pappy’s Smokehouse and Bogarts were a few that were recommended so we said sure why not. However, those kitchens would be closing earlier than we would be arriving, so we needed a better option with just as good fare. Enter yours truly. As a «former» elite Unilocaler(still holding out for my 2016 badge folks) I know where to look for the best trends, and insight. The Shaved Duck popped on my radar instantly and we bookmarked it. We were on a mission for the best barbecue in town and we were pretty excited. We arrived at our hotel near the Gateway Arch and after a workout, we hit the road for The Shaved Duck. Nothing was going to stand in our way now… We navigated through a highway overpass and crossed through a few neighborhood streets in a peaceful part of town with beautiful architecture surrounding us. We arrived and put our names in the hat for a seat, but to our advantage a few spots opened up at the bar and we were ready to go. We ordered the chili sampler, the smoked chicken wings, and burnt ends for our appetizers. Who were we kidding, this was just our first round. It not only didn’t disappoint, it blew us away. Between the variety of sauces and incredible texture to all the meat, round 1 was nothing short of perfection. The wings came with a habanero mango barbecue dipping sauce that was refreshing and flavorful. The burnt ends were simply incredible and if you come here, they are a MUSTORDER. The four different chili flavors were all exceptional in their own unique way. The chili verde almost tempted me to order it individually after, but we had round 2 still to go. Round 2 brought us a rack of ribs(how could we not order a rack of ribs in St. Louis right?), which came with some very tasty Brussels sprouts. Sprouts are quickly making their way on the scene all over America and I’m thinking pretty soon everyone’s kids taste buds will catch on. The rib meat melted in our mouths and kept the awesome momentum of this experience rolling. We ordered a three meat plate as well which consisted of burnt ends(just couldn’t get enough of them), short rib, and the meatloaf. This isn’t your momma’s meat loaf either. Momma loses this battle. Sorry. Everything was a 10 out of 10 walking away with the Hollywood explosion in the background. Just an epic main course. We added the baked beans as a side and it almost ate like one of their fine chilis. There was some shaved beef and peppers in the beans that added a nice touch. So by now you would assume we are full and ready to pay our bill. WRONG! My brother and I can put down some grub. Especially after being on the road for 13 hours on the I-70 east. Our neighbors at the bar insisted that we try the bread pudding, so round 3 was coming next. The bread pudding was complimented by a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and it was probably the best dessert I’ve had in years. It was just the right way to cap off an amazing barbecue meal experience. As if the food wasn’t great enough to stand on its own, the bartenders were equally as friendly and helpful with recommendations and fun stories. This was just a true grand slam in the bottom of the 9th inning and I couldn’t have been more amazed by how awesome The Shaved Duck really was. I bought one of the tee-shirts just so I could remember this night for years to come. I’m telling you right now — if you’re going to visit St. Louis or you’re just traveling through, this is a MANDATORY visit. You’d be doing yourself a disservice to drive through or ignore this amazing establishment. Until next time Shaved Duck. As the great Terminator once said: «I’ll be back.»

Went here last Friday with my in laws and girls. Definitely get here no later than 5 pm if you want a table on a Friday night(prob earlier on a Sat). We were very disappointed the first time we came here — meats were way too dry. That was almost two years ago. But this time it was a much better experience. We started with the smothered fries and they were good but didn’t have enough meat on them to warrant the price, in my opinion. The headlight of the meal was the meatloaf, burnt ends and creamed corn. All were delicious and we would get them again for sure. Good portions of the two meat dinner, too. The beans were good, but the corn is a standout. I tried their beef and corn chili(1mm scoville units) and it was way too hot. Not enough flavor. I wanted spicy but this was just CRAZY. I couldn’t even finish the CUP that I ordered. I want to try their other chilis… Oh, my daughter liked the Mac and cheese as well. And we liked their corn bread a lot. For dessert, we split a gooey butter-brownie with a side of vanilla ice cream and that was tasty, as well. So lots of highlights here… we’ll be back!

The ideal corner restaurant. If it were on my corner, I’d go all the time. Diverse menu. Great bar. Lovely atmosphere. Especially nice when the weather allows you to sit outside. Getting there before the rush, my daughter and I figured we should try some authentic St Louis BBQ while looking at colleges. Had the burnt tips and meatloaf with a root beer glaze sauce and Brussels Sprouts and of course the smothered fries. The service was excellent as I rarely had to wait for a refill on my Lagunitas.

Yum yum yum, in my tum. Second time I’ve visited this glorious place! Had to get the smothered fries again. They did not disappoint. How can you not love fries covered in cheese sauce and pulled pork? It’s like a mini heart attack… for my taste buds! But I do realize those arteries are a bit at risk after eating this dish… it’s worth it. I ordered the combination plate with pulled pork, beef tri-tip, and added the 3 ribs. It’s a good deal. You get all three(good portions) with a side for $ 20. All the meats were cooked to perfection. I love the smokyness of the meat! Tender beef tri-tip and pulled pork. Ribs were falling off the bone and flavorful. They even heated up nicely the next day… you’re bound to have leftovers. Service was fabulous too! My water cup was never empty(signs of an attentive server). The server knew his stuff and put up with the silliness of my friends which is always a plus! Will definitely be back!

OUTSTANDING! A friend recommended this place to me and he was spot on. I have a job which required me to travel and I rarely come across a BBQ joint I like as much as my favorites back home in Michigan(Woodshop & Lockharts). I had the smothered fries and the 2 Meat Combination with pulled pork and tri-tip(slow smoked sirloin similar to brisket). For a side i opted for the Mac and cheese. This place has it right when it comes to smoking meat! The meat is tender and flavorful! The Mac and cheese was get good as well! If I come back to St. Louis you bet I will be hitting this place for dinner for candied bacon which is only available after 5PM.

This is a hole in the wall dive… with live music… craft beer… and some of the best(and unique) BBQ I’ve ever had. Basically, it’s amazing. This is one of my favorite places in St. Louis. Do yourself a favor, and give the Shaved Duck a try. For appetizers, we got smothered fries and a ½ pound of smoked wings. The wings are good enough to be an entrée, and the fries were very good as well. They come topped with a few different cuts of meat and are smothered in gravy. I got the tri-tip sandwich for my main course. The best way I can describe this cut of meat is a tastier, juicier version of brisket, if that was even possible. I got the Brussels sprouts as a side, and they were descent but not as good as everything else. I was extremely impressed with our entire experience.

always delicious food, I love this place. they get a bit pricy for sure, bring that money. and gets crowded, even on a weekday. but it’s worth the wait. I usually go on weekdays, really early(like 5pm, cuz they have food that you can’t order until after 5), around 6 people actually start building up. I go and order a beer to start, and then food. their food has been excellent! I had multiple dishes since I’ve been there multiple times, and they are just so good, constantly. most recent visit I had the b.o.s.s and the meat is tender, half raw, with crunchy onion rings, and a delicious and crispy bun. no words can describe how happy I am when eating that. other food like slow smoked duck breast(to die for, but share with someone would be good), smoked tri tip sandwich, duck confit, smothered fries… goes on and on, are just good!!! their waiter is very very nice and caring as well, and that’s why I gave this restaurant 5 stars! no complaints! go if you have someone in town and want to shock their face off! st Louis is not all BBQ!

Phenomenal in all senses of the word. MUST get the smothered fries. Absolutely necessary. These rank among the top 10 best things I’ve ever eaten. Besides that, The Shaved Duck is a funky neighborhood joint with a hoppin’ bar, friendly service, and hearty food. With no reservations, make sure you get there early or expect a wait(worth it). Notable Dishes: — SMOTHEREDFRIES — I go here almost exclusively for these. — Buttermilk Cornbread — Because what’s bbq without cornbread? — Duck Confit — A namesake. — Pulled Pork Flatbread — But tbh I love all of the flatbreads. — Three Meat Plate — Great to share. For those of us who want it ALL. — THE B.O.S.S — It lives up to its name — Sauteed Brussel Sprouts — To cancel everything else out. — Jalapeño Cream Corn — YES. — Mac n’ Cheese — Obviously.

This place blows my mind! It’s tucked out of the way, all by itself and it’s such a small place, but man, it’s delicious! We went today to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we were so happy we chose the Shaved Duck! We started with the duck confit appetizer and the smothered fries. The duck was a thigh that was perfectly smoked and juicy with plenty of fat drippings in it. The skin was crispy and smoky and just delightful. The bread it came with was OK, not too exciting. The smothered fries were so good! Best I’ve ever had! Their homemade cheese sauce is sooo good! They had huge chunks of pulled pork on the fries making it unique and filling. My favorite thing is the tri tips… It was a sandwich and I could have had a heaping plate of just the tri tips and been happy. They were so tender and juicy and seasoned to perfection with just a few spices and salt! Best I’ve had yet again! Didn’t need any sauce on them at all. I had the Mac n cheese as the side dish and it was a delicious accompaniment. Can’t go wrong with homemade cheese sauce and shells with buttered panko crumbs. My husband had the braut burger and it was surprisingly juicy and flavorful as well. Very good! Our service was excellent, and they were very accommodating for our infant in the car seat despite it being a small space. The only thing I would recommend would be to get more lighting for daytime, as it was a bit dark. I will definitely be back to try more dinner items!

I was so excited to try this place when I saw they had a brisket burger! I’ve never been let down ordering one… Until tonight. I will say we did come late(around 8 they close at 10) and they were out of most things BUT I would’ve gotten the brisket burger regardless. We got the chili sampler as an app and honestly the ancho beef chili was the best I ever had, the rest were just okay. Back to my burger, this thing was a brick! So dry, so over cooked, microwaved even! I’m talking Burger King sitting under a heat lamp for 7 hours dry. I mean it was offensive. The only reason I didn’t send it back is because we were one of last people there. And also my boyfriend is a garbage disposal lol. Not sure if I’d go back.

Date night with bratwurst burger and the brisket burger. My date had the bratwurst burger and enjoyed it. I had the brisket burger, which tasted good, but not mouth watering fantastic. Don’t get me wrong, the food here is better than most places, but if I had a craving for a burger that was gonna send me to the stars, I’d go elsewhere. On top of that, the fries were mediocre, nothing special. The burnt ends were probably the best thing of the night, very delicious and hit the spot. The atmosphere was popping. Love the crowded and loud feeling at the bar. Would I come here again? Yes

3.5 for food 4.5 for ambiance This restaurant is hiding in a middle of a neighborhood. Street parking. Friendly service. The décor is charming. Loud + laid back casual. Offers live music weekdays. Food: Crab cake: best dish I had there. spicy and delicious. Love the flavor. On top on cream of sweet corn. Pulled chicken sandwich serviced with slaw: below avg. I’ve had better Mac n cheese: is good, creamy and rich Duck confit pot pie: too soupy for my taste. Delicious flavors. Interesting presentation. I wish they offer more bread with it. Geooy brownies: they serve it with a cup of milk. Too sweet. Not bad

After walking around in the cold looking at Christmas lights, it was a great refresher to swing in here and grab dinner. There was a wait, as there should be. Its offering will make even the most Grinch-like individuals heart warm. Hearty food, served perfectly. One of the items on my must try list were the smothered fries. Cheese, meat and fries. A new favorite of mine. The wife had beat me away from them, so that she could have a try. For my entrée, some burnt ends with mac and cheese. Delicious. Try them. We will be going back.

My coworker reminded me twice I have to come here. So I made it the first restaurant I really went to on my trip to St. Louis, lunch on Friday. What a cozy little place, I loved the atmosphere too. Small, and even as it filled up as it became actually lunch time for those who live in central time, it never really felt crowded. I had no idea what I intended to eat here because I was purposely not looking at menus(or in this case, I zoned out when she told me what to eat), so I was like well, duck is in your name, and you have BBQ… why not both. My stomach disagreed with my brain later on here, but it was worth it. Also I will say for my first restaurant involving someone waiting on me while wearing a Blues hat, I just immediately had the«no can I stay please» not even 24 hours into my pretty decently long visit. Anyway. So I thought it was interesting they had like four kinds of chili. I kind of wanted them all, but decided to just get a cup of the duck and smoked jalapeño chili. It was so good. They give you little cups of scallions and cheese to go along with it, I only put some cheese in… and I mean just some. I love just dumping cheese in chili but I refrained here and was well rewarded. This stuff is good. There is a chili sampler appetizer and I definitely want that next time for trying the rest. And then I got their smothered fries. Pulled meat, cheese sauce, and more cheddar on top of fries. Holy. Cow. I have no idea how anyone could split this with someone else and then eat something else because I maybe pulled off half? And I was pretty hungry since I had a food struggle at Scottrade Center the night before. But I could not accomplish eating all of these fries. But GODDAMN if you had like at least 1 other person with you oh man… I kept picking at it even when I should have stopped(good thing there’s a park to walk in nearby). These are cheesy, meaty goodness. Oh my god. My favorite way to have bbq is on a potato in some way so this was right up my alley and has already made its way to my favorite rendition. It’s now 5 days since I got home and I had finally beaten my post-trip depression but just thinking about this food has me back to «find a way to move to St. Louis. Find a way.» The quality of food I had along with the prices charged, you are all lucky… ducks.

I came here with my brother and his fiancé during a quickie trip to St. Louis. There was a bit of a wait, and the front of the restaurant was crowded with other patrons. There was live music, however, which added to the lively ambiance. Overall I had a good experience — the buttermilk cornbread appetizer is so delicious, especially the honey butter. However, it was a bit too much even amongst the three of us to finish. The three of us ordered the duck confit, shrimp ‘n’ grits, and duck breast. While everything was indeed hearty and delicious, I felt that the portions were a bit small for the price. Service was friendly and prompt.

St. Louis you have delicious BBQ! Thank you. We were in this city for 2 hours, that’s it. We went right to the source and asked Aimee(and Unilocal!) what the #1 spot for dinner was that was open and had no wait. The Shaved Duck was it! It was a Friday evening so we did wait about 15 min, not bad at all. There was seating outside so we grabbed a table out there as it was a gorgeous evening. Loved the local, neighborhood vibe of this location too, truly a fab experience. Our server was fabulous! So very welcoming, charming and funny. He truly added to the experience and helped us cruise around the menu with some great suggestions. Everyone has to start with the Buttermilk Cornbread, right? Right. Served in cast iron skillet with side of honey butter it was delicious. I could have easily taken some to go for breakfast. One of my favorite dishes to make at home is meatloaf. I reluctantly ordered the Smoked Meatloaf as it’s super hard to impress me. I have to say, I am not a huge smoke fan but the root beer glaze served with this made the dish. It was a heavenly addition and was the star. Such a robust flavor that added the pizazz you want when you order meatloaf. The Baby Back Ribs were legit. House rub, smoked with cherry wood, glazed, yes. Our sides were the Mac n cheese and Sautéed Brussels sprouts — perfect pairing here. Thanks for your evening hospitality, St. Louis!

Tri-tip is savory and smokey. Burnt ends have BBQ sauce on them and are delicious. Came here on a Tuesday night with no reservations and had about a 15 – 20 minutes wait for a table. No worries they have a wonderful bar to chill at in the meantime. The dining area has limited seating so I would definitely recommend arriving early! I’ve heard a weekend wait can be up to two hours and I do not think they take reservations. Beer selection is good and the night we went there was live music… a man playing guitar not too loudly. It was perfect.

I’m from Chicago and take my food very seriously! And I am pretty sure Chicago is one of the best cities for food… but, The Shaved Duck in St. Louis has to be the best BBQ place ever! :) My husband and I waited for about 1 ½ hour on a Saturday night and it was well worth it! We went with the game plan that we would order a bit of everything… haha…because how often do we come out to St. Louis… and we wanted to try a lot! We started out with the chili mac and the smothered fries(one of their specialties). The chili mac was SOGOOD! The Shaved Duck has 4 different types of chili and you get to pick which one you want on the chili mac. The smothered fries… SOOOGOOD! The fries are on the crispy side which is great because they are topped w/pulled pork and a cheese sauce. So, the fries don’t get soggy! These two starters had us so full… probably because we polished off the plates! We still had our«entrees» coming. We couldn’t decide what to get so we ordered the 3 meat combo plate. We chose the pulled pork, meatloaf, and burnt ends. We paid $ 5 to add 3 ribs. And for sides, we ordered the caramelized onion mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Out of the meats we ordered, I LOVED the burnt ends the most. Everything was good though! My husband loved the meatloaf. I don’t think you can go wrong! For dessert, we ordered a brownie to go… YUM! It wasn’t an ordinary brownie. It had some yummy buttery topping! Great way to conclude the meal! The service was great and love the ambiance. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by checking out this spot!

This place rocked my socks! Make sure you go after 5pm when burnt ends and smoked sausages are available! We shared an order of smothered fries to start — pulled rib and pork meat over hand-cut fries and topped with cheese sauce and freshly grated sharp cheddar. The fries perfect in that they were fresh a crispy, except for the ones that were nice and soggy from the cheese sauce. And this cheese sauce actually tasted like it was made from real cheese! *Gasp* Unlike some other places. I also appreciated that there was a pretty decent portion of that pulled meat on top and it was absolutely delicious! For our entrée, my husband and I shared the three meat platter — we chose the burnt ends, polish sausage and the trip-tip(which apparently sells out most days) with a side of sautéed brussel sprouts. I prefer that my meat is served without sauce and didn’t realize that the burnt ends didn’t fit that description. Next time we go, I think it would be worth asking if it’s possible to get them without the sauce — then I can really taste the smoke! The polish sausage was pretty yummy, but I have to say that the trip-tip was the true star of this plate! It had a mild but absolutely beautiful flavor and it was super duper tender and practically melted in my mouth! The service was great, the atmosphere was softly lit and laid back. We will definitely return soon! I will certainly be eating those smothered fries and that trip-tip!
