The breakfast here is amazing. You almost wish you had two stomachs so that you could accommodate several options from the menu. The Veggie Omelet and the Avocado Egg breakfast sandwich is fantastic. Dinner is good but I prefer the breakfast menu. Plus you get 10% off if you are staying at the Cheshire. Not too shabby.

First visit. Memorial Day about 9:30 am. The Market has a rustic with a trendy twist décor. The food was good, nothing extraordinary but good. Here’s why I didn’t give it 4 or even 5 stars –it is because of the cook behind the counter. My friend and I placed orders that apparently«she doesn’t do». After we placed our orders, we sat down and waited. There was one cook, and about 20 people in the café. All of a sudden I hear«I don’t do orders like that! There’s no time for obnoxious orders like that!» Wow! 1. Talking(well more like scolding) to a peer like that. 2. In front of ALL customers(it was an open kitchen) 3. When we approached the cook Michelle about her attitude — a sarcastic apology bc she was probably too busy to deal with customers. So …the guy who took our order– awesome. Doesn’t this cook know service is more important than food?! Food is food. Service is unique. Having been a small business owner, i speak from experience it’s about service and relationships. I would not tolerate someone with that attitude representing my business. Luckily management knows about this and seems to be on the same page as us(the customers). And ps it’s not like our order was drastic– we just made one change in egg type… she could’ve explained to us… it’s kind of busy can you do regular eggs. No… instead she scolds her co-worker in front of all the customers…

It’s very cute in there. I wish I would have liked it more. I generally order salads when there are no other gluten free options. The salad I ordered was just a bowl of arugula with a few fennel shavings, $ 8. I felt a little ripped off. If they would have offered a grilled chicken breast or salmon to go on top that works have helped. I’d go back for coffee, especially if they got some gluten free stuff in there. Nice staff, cute atmosphere, but I would not go for lunch again

Lunch with coworkers. Helpful & pleasant staff. Interesting décor with retail options available for the window shopper in you. Substantial seating. Delicious salad & sandwich(seriously yum!!!). Both big enough to share! And gelato — Grrrr — a worthy reason to break any diet commitments for the day!

Came in for breakfast and it hit the spot. The customer service was beyond wonderful. The vibe is a mix of hipster, cool, and chill. Overall, I really loved my experience here. Cant wait to come back again!

Was on my way to St. Mary’s to visit the roommate who just had a appendicitis and I needed breakfast. I selected The Market for convenience, being located down the street from the hospital. I’ve been to The Restaurant and Basso, but not The Market so I was looking forward to this breakfast. When I entered, I was immediately greeted by a cheerful man, so I followed his voice and veered to the right. It appeared to be the right direction, there was the counter to order, a coffee bar and tables. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Breakfast Sandwich and a black coffee. I was given a HUGE cup and saucer and told they’d bring my sandwich out when it was ready. I filled my cup with a rich dark roast coffee, selected a high top table and started working on my iPad. Shortly, the perky young man brought me my sandwich. It was a simple, but tasty sandwich. It was smoked salmon and a fried egg on toasted wheat bread that had been smeared with chive cream cheese. Now, this is the way to start a morning. Once I finished, I bussed my table and walked over to see what I thought was the«retail part» of The Market. To my surprise, it was no only retail, but more seating space and a huge stone fireplace. OMG! If I sat down in one of those big comfy chairs next to that roaring fire, I may still be sitting there today. That fireplace was so inviting. I could be comfortable sitting there, sipping coffee and working on my computer or iPad all day. They’d be asking me to leave… LOL Great place, I gotta come back to try lunch.

I visited this place on a Saturday and loved the rustic feel upon walking in the door. I ordered two sandwiches(Pastrami & a Turkey & Cheese sandwich) two bags of chips and a Mocha Latte. The pastrami sandwich comes with pastrami and kickapoo cheese with spicy mustard, butter pickles and pickled red onions on toasted rye. Such a great hot sandwich to enjoy as I sat in front of the fountain at Forest Park. I felt there could have been more meat for as much as I spent on the sandwich(especially after noticing how loaded my husbands turkey sandwich was) but, overall I loved the sandwich and thought the combination of ingredients was perfect for it. Besides I would probably throw pickles on every sandwich if i had a choice so there is no going wrong there. I also have to point out that they used Marbled Rye and I was so happy to see that it wasn’t the«other» rye bread. Marbled is the only way to go in my opinion. The chips were Ms. Vickie’s. My Mocha Latte was superb, I downed that latte in no time and wished I had more. So chocolately and smooth and warm. Darn. I think they used Ghirardelli chocolate syrup? nom nom nom… I will probably not frequent this place as i thought again that it was a little pricey for what I bought but, I am definitely happy to have tried a new place and to have finally visited the grounds of the revamped Cheshire Inn.

I wanted to like this place so much. Great reviews from people whose opinion I trust. Boasts a small but potent menu using quality ingredients. All the piece should fit together. Yet, somehow it didn’t for me. Décor: Very authentic rustic retrofitting location. Everything has its place without being overcrowded or kitschy. With my first glance inside I was totally sold. Food: The ingredients used are very high quality and from the first bite you can tell what you are tasting is carefully selected. However, I’m not sure it was worth the $ 9, at least not for a frequent visit. Waitstaff: I am still shaking my head over this one. From the time we walked in to the time we left, I felt like the whole staff was annoyed we were there. They almost acted put out that the three of us came in during regular lunch hours, paid to eat and then bused our own tables. Everyone is entitled to a bad day so I don’t want to judge too harshly but I haven’t had anyone act this way towards me in a dining establishment in a very long time. I’ll be back but I will be wary.

Stopped in for the 1st time… so surprised at how spacious this place is and I liked the rustic/kitschy décor. Breakfast, Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, drinks — a great spot for a quick nibble or a meeting. My companion had a beef and potato soup that he thought was very tasty. I only had an iced tea on this first visit, but I will be back.

Holy flavor-bomb. I returned for lunch and was woo-ed by the The Montalcino. It comes with thinly sliced prosciutto, pesto aiolo, roasted red pepper, and mozzarella on a ciabatta bun. Every cog of this sandwich is the perfect ingredient. The prosciutto is delightfully savory. It really bursts with flavor. The aiolo and red pepper complement each other so well. Especially with the melted mozzarella. I highly recommend this sandwich. It’s amazing.

I go here WAY too often to not give it the FSB(five star bump.) I am in love with their breakfast sandwiches and lunch offerings, and enjoy everything the Market has to offer. I even swing by occasionally now to grab a bottle of wine to take home. Doesn’t get much better than this!

Bacon, egg, avocado, pepper jack cheese on sourdough… Mmmmmmm that gets all stars. Took one star off for super slow(and almost rude) service. another customer and I ended up replacing the coffee carafe ourselves. And the staff gets really annoyed if you don’t understand where to pick up your order(it’s the other side of the café, in the gift shop part). Cute gifts in the store, but not a single thing was priced reasonably.

Bomb breakfast sandwich. SOGOOD. Came with friends who had been before, and I am sure glad they brought me. I had the steak and egg breakfast sandwich — great size, hot, super tender meat, and the eggs were just perfect. Got a free scoop of gelato for checking-in on Unilocal and it was the best salted caramel flavored anything I have ever had. And to think I had no plans of trying it. Also split a carrot muffin which I would highly recommend — super flavorful, a good dose of cinnamon… nomnomnom. Great atmosphere — wooden tables, really sweet and friendly staff, you can walk around from where you order to the rest of the Market where there is a to-go case, comfy armchairs and couches in front of a fireplace, and a wine selection too. Nice outdoor seating is unfortunately marred by the busy street traffic, but in good weather like today, it was still pleasant.

Who knew that good food and a convivial atmosphere could be had at a hotel café? Usually a fortress of bad service and sub-par food, The Market at the Cheshire eroded all stereotypes of hotel eateries that I had. The menu consists solely of café favorites: soups, salads, and sandwiches, but it was the deviation from classics and more inventive offerings that shined. I had the B.G.T.(bacon, goat cheese, and tomato) sandwich which was complimented with fresh arugula and a choice of chips(Billy Goat, bonus points for being from a local company) or fruit. The sandwich was the right price, the perfect portion, and above all delectable. The entire market is surrounded by comfortable tables and even a leather chair/couch area anchored by a fireplace. One can amuse oneself by all the products that are for sale while one waits for the order to arrive. The only barrier from a full 5 star review was that the kitchen seemed not to be 100% efficient. My order arrived promptly, but it took a reminder and a couple minutes for my girlfriend’s order to arrive… this was not an isolated incident as the exact phenomenon occurred to the table next to us. Regardless its charm and taste overcame any hiccup in service.

The Market is trendy in it’s un-trendiness. It has a very lived in feel, eventhough it’s a brand new restaurant. With the name Market I assumed it would be a kind of convenience store for the Cheshire guests, but the look and feel is more like a little neighborhood breakfast and lunch place. If I remember right, it’s open until 8, which is a pretty late lunch, so obviously there is a function of providing the inn guests with a soda, beer or snack. Anyway, it’s a cool space with a laid-back vibe, not unlike the Blues City Deli. There was quite a bit of singing along with the piped in music by the lunch crew, so I’d call it a fun vibe too. The sandwich choices all sounded good at prices from 8 to 9.50, including Billy Goat chips, which I like to see. We had two sandwiches; pastrami and pot roast. The ingredients are pre-determined, which I actually prefer as opposed to choosing from a list of 40 items and getting it wrong. The pastrami was really good — very tender, just perfect. I also loved the chosen ingredients. The pot roast was also very tender, but needed seasoning. There was also a big glob of fat on the sandwich which I’m pretty sure could have been avoided. Kids have a choice of PBJ or grilled cheese, which is fine, but the grilled cheese is what I’d call«gourmet» style with maybe fontina cheese — not sure. Anyway, it was, for a 7-yr-old, and I quote, «horrible.» Mom and dad thought it was pretty good. So unfortunately, they were one for three for us. The wife declared she wouldn’t go back. I probably would since I liked two of three sandwiches. I’ll give it a three and a half, rounded up due to the cool ambience.

Breakfast: I think the Market is perfect for pastries and coffee and if you’re not a breakfast sandwich connoisseur, then you will probably enjoy their breakfast sandwiches as well. However, I do not recommend the steak & egg sandwich, in fact, I wish they called it an egg & brisket sandwich because it’s not really the steak you would picture when you order steak & eggs. The bacon sandwich is decent, but the avocado wasn’t very ripe and the bacon wasn’t doing it for me. My favorite sandwich was the ham and cheese, which I know sounds boring compared to the previous mentioned two sandwiches, but it really was the best one. Looking forward to trying this for lunch!

My friends suggested this place for lunch the other day. I was really excited to come check it out. In the group of four of us, two got the pot roast sandwich and the sandwiches both disappeared before I could fully process all the satisfied noises they were making. My other friend and I shared a cup of cream of asparagus soup and the market grilled cheese. You know the cheese is good when your entire table wrinkles their noses and ask what the smell is as the sandwich arrives. It dipped really well into the soup too! My only complain is that the service was slower than I wanted it to be and there wasn’t as much space for sitting. This place probably isn’t my top choice for lunch, but I guess I did like it well enough.

Oh, hello there breakfast sandwich! Hello, egg. Hello, avocado. Hello, pepper jack cheese. And a very special hello to you, bacon! I hope to see you all again real soon. This place is cozy, serves great(Kaldi’s) coffee, and would be a fantastic place to stop and get a sandwich or salad after a walk in the park. I’ll be thinking of that breakfast sandwich for quite a while. They have a little market(hence the name) on one side, with olive oil, cheese, wine, beer, etc etc etc. I saw a fireplace too, and saw mention of wine tastings! Truly lovely.

This place is dreamy. Like the rest of The Cheshire, it’s a little dark, smells like a fireplace, and I imagine tiny gnomes live there when everything’s locked up for the night. Today was my first trip, and I’m adding it in my rotation of morning coffee stops. They had a nice variety of baked goods, as well as heartier breakfast and lunch items. A slice of coffee cake was $ 1.50 and my itty bitty gnome-sized macchiato was a couple bucks. It was well-made and came in a teeny tiny little cup that made me feel both fancy AND ridiculous. Put this place on your list as a good early-morning stop.
