This is a great local shop! The vibe is friendly and the service is good as far as I’ve experienced.
I recently bought some strings for my violin and the employee told me about a discount for liking their facebook page (they should offer the same discount for checking in on Unilocal!).
He also showed me how to string my instrument… yes, I asked him to, since it had literally been years since I last changed the strings on my violin. Plus, I didn’t have the right tools to change the E string anyway (it had a tuner on it), so he helped me out. He offered to change the rest of the strings, but I wanted to do it myself at home.
It was a quick and easy transaction and it was nice to see all the beautiful instruments, especially the little violins. I would definitely go back if I had any repairs I needed to make on my instrument.

I was in the market for an upright bass for our bluegrass group. While looking at Craig’s List for used basses I discovered an ad for bass rental from St Louis Strings.
I called them to find out about the rental program and they spent a lot of time explaining not only the rental program, but also a LOT about upright basses.
They suggested I come down and look at some quality basses so I’d know what to look for when buying.
After a 3 hour, one way drive to their store they were more than helpful in demoing the different basses they had in store as well as showing me their selection of violins.
Their prices, beginning at $ 2,000 plus tax, were our of my price range, but I did find a used Krutz bass (their brand) that I purchased locally and will be using them for service and upgrades in the future.

I called St. Louis Strings hoping that they could connect me with some professionals to help play music for my wedding. I spoke with David there who took down my information and said he’d get back to me. Within 3 days I had an email from Stephen, the sales partner, who sent me nearly 10 resources of local musicians with phone numbers. Granted, I haven’t shopped there — but based off this customer service for a guy who has never been a customer — I can tell this is a place I’d be happy to shop.
