If I gathered nothing else from working with the Rocket Man (aka small business owner Chris B) it’s this: Program a lockout specialist’s number into your phone ahead of time. Know who you want to deal with. Hopefully, you’ll never need to use the information, but it’s good to have just in case.
Rocket Locksmith Service is a local sole proprietorship that dispatches from the southern part of St. Louis. Here on Unilocal and on his website, the truck and guy that you see pictured are the truck and guy that will come to your home, business or random parking lot spot.
A few notes about the business:
1) This company’s pretty strongly against the bait-​and-​switch tactic deployed both by overzealous and unscrupulous operators alike. Because it’s hard for him to gauge what it might take to open your car/​door/​safe without assessing the situation, you won’t get a firm-​sounding but lowball price up front (ask about it though and you’ll be given a fair idea with plenty of warning that it’s subject to change). Most car lockouts will run about $ 60 – 80 and homes $ 100 – 150, but there is a LARGE range. If in doubt, pay the service call of $ 15 and request an on-​site quote if you’re concerned about the cost.
2) There are both local operators (such as Rocket) and nationally-​dispatched contractors doing business in St. Louis. It can be tough to tell which is which, but if you’re looking for someone whose business truly is St. Louis-​based, this is an option.
3) Many companies will advertise that their locksmiths are licensed, bonded, insured, etc. These terms, while they may make you feel good, probably aren’t giving you the protection you’d expect. If you didn’t know that there’s not a special locksmith’s license in Missouri, you’re not alone. (A special license is required for IL).
4) Because Chris knows the area, he can give you a pretty good idea of how long it will take him to arrive. From the time I called in for service to the moment he pulled up was under 30 minutes.
