Went tonight, wasn’t too crowded sat on the back patio. Service was nice and fast. Ordered the Reuben and was very pleased. Overall worth the money

We really enjoyed our meal. The bison burger and fries were great! My sister also enjoyed the Porker. We also had great service.

Took my two young grandsons there to lunch today. Met by what is best described as a hostess determined to have her way. I asked for a booth only to be told that I can’t have one because I need a highchair. I informed the hostess that was not necessary as my young grandson likes to sit on my lap. So where were we seated? A table in the bowels of the restaurant. No thanks. We left. I guess she was on a power trip, but I have the ultimate power: Where I spend my money. And it won’t be here.

What’s there to say, cold beer and good food. Friendly service. Has become regular haunt when reuben urge is too strong to resist.

We noticed PJ’s Tavern while we went to an establishment across the street and made sure to get back to try it. We were not disappointed! Its your typical type of pub food with the darkish pub atmosphere. The restaurant itself isn’t huge but it seats plenty. We were seated right away and our drinks were brought out immediately. The wait staff was very nice, and it was nice that our drinks were being filled by anyone who was working there because they never got empty that way. Our food came out fresh and pretty fast and yay for their fries as they were great and seasoned! Can’t find that around here much anymore! We are marking this on our list of places to hit up for a game or two. I’m sure the ambiance during a STL game is great!

Went for lunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Seemed like a cool place, and I am always down for Irish pubs. Ordered the tuna melt sandwich with fries so nothing fancy. The food was tasty but not exactly worth the wait. It took a substantial amount of time before we actually got the food… at which point I was starving. Granted we had a group of 8 – 10 folks, but it did not seem as though the restaurant was packed and busy. Probably would not frequent PJ’s unless it involved a work lunch — primarily because it is close to work and nothing else. It has potential and again would recommend giving it a shot under ‘normal’ circumstances if you will. The servers and greeters were cordial and overall was not a bad experience… just sloowww.

They really need to add half-stars as an option. PJ’s is better than 3 but not quite 4. The food is good. The atmosphere is what you would expect for a neighborhood tavern. It’s a place that you go if you are going to be in the neighborhood. Like someone else mentioned, you don’t drive 15 – 20 minutes just to go here. My experience from Friday night at 5:45pm: got a table right away. This could have something to do with lent going on right now, so I can’t say this is typical. Waitstaff was attentive and timely which I very much appreciate. I was in a pretty bland mood, so I just got a cheeseburger but it was good. I’ve been here a few times over the years and can honestly say that I’ve never had a bad experience.

I know four stars seems like a lot for tavern food, but«for a tavern» it is deserved. Good Club sandwiches, burgers and very good fries, but… the French Onion soup is the best! MMM… lots of melted cheese on top of toasted bread/croûton floating over a sea of tasty soup. M… the answer to a cold winter day! I have proabbly been there a dozen times over the last year and service has always been very friendly and timely, your water, soda or tea will not run out. It’s tavern food, but if that’s what you, go to PJs!

I will be able to keep this very short and sweet: the food here is good, there’s a nice variety of options, the waitstaff is extremely friendly and kind, and the place is clean. The atmosphere is pretty calm and I recommend their Reuben. I probably wouldn’t drive from U City to Kirkwood just for PJ’s but, if I’m in Kirkwood, I’m likely stopping in here for a sandwich and some good iced tea.

I live in Kirkwood and have been coming here for years… on a very regular basis. Its a neighborhood restaurant and bar first and foremost, so nobody is going to rave about any particular dish or sandwich being one worth dying for. What makes this place great in my mind is its close to home, its in downtown Kirkwood, the owner and some of staff that know us always greet us with a smile and hello and the food and service are always good(as far as bar food goes). I recommend their St. Louis style pizza, Turkey Club, BLT(tons of bacon), French Onion Soup, and the hot wings. Great place to hang-out with friends or a family dinner in the game room in back. The bar is a decent size, so there is usually room during the week if you want to watch a game on one of the many tvs in the bar area. Stop in, see your neighbors and enjoy!

PJ’s is nothing if not consistent. It’s always there for a quick, cheap outing & the food is generally pretty decent. I’m a big fan of their French Onion Soup, it’s thick & plenty oniony(nothing worse than watery onion soup). Ask for extra cheese, extra croutons & you’ll thank me. They have a pretty good house salad & their house dressing is avocado ranch — yum! I wish they didn’t use so much iceberg lettuce, but it’s forgivable in this case. The Beef & Brick is great — basically a french dip on Texas toast. Cheesy, meaty & greasy. And their pizza is pretty good — thin crust, St. Louis style(I don’t think they use provel). I really can’t comment too much on the rest of the menu, because I always order the same thing here(cup of soup & house salad), but what I have has been enough to keep me coming back for 14 or so years. I do agree with the other reviewer that mentioned the bathrooms. They are pretty gross. And the bar area is really the only visually pleasing place to sit.

Went there for happy hour tonight… To be honest, I wasn’t that impressed. The food was okay, but nothing exciting. There were no happy hour specials, which is a big minus in my book. I would suggest finding a different place…

I would rate PJ’s 3⁄5 but my boyfriend, Sean, would probably give them 4⁄5 or 5⁄5 if he actually gave a crap about writing reviews on Unilocal, lol. First of all, as another reviewer mentioned, this is the very definition of a «neighborhood bar» and the service is most definitely always friendly. You will feel welcome here even if you’re out of state/just visiting/don’t live in the neighborhood. I think going to PJ’s is like stepping back into his childhood for him since he pretty much grew up in Kirkwood. I’m not from St. Louis at all, so maybe I don’t really get the charm this place has. But I will say we’ve been here twice and both times I felt like I’d been here many times before when I clearly hadn’t…like a bizarre sense of pseudo-nostalgia. We’ve sat on their patio once and it was pretty nice during the summer. Nothing super spectacular but not bad either. The inside is dark and they have all sorts of sport jerseys up on the wall too. The food to me, is kind of boring. It tastes like they just went to Sam’s club and purchased a big bulk box of those little fried mini taco things and heated them up in a deep fryer. Yeah. Not too exciting. But that’s exactly why he enjoys the place so much. It’s uh, boring? Not superfancy gourmet or anything. Just plain, decent, food… and good service. I think their food would be better if it was a little more imaginative. As in if they had their own special sauces or something kind of like how Syberg’s does it. According to the sign, they’ve been around since 1996 so I guess the place has a devoted local crowd that goes repeatedly. Anyway, I really wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here but since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to stop by. I told him I could make him the same food they make if we stopped at Sam’s Club on the way home but he got angry when I said that… hehe.

This is our go to bar! It’s very near our house, we never have a problem getting a table, and the food is good. I usually get the tuna melt or the beef and brick and both are great. There’s a patio out back with tv’s which is perfect during the summer. It’s just a nice, relaxed place to go eat and have a few beers — very casual and laid back. Whenever we are starving and don’t feel like cooking, we hit up PJ’s!

Unimaginative menu of 100% boring pre-fab bar food, flavorless prefrozen French fries, somewhat nasty restrooms, a slight film of yuck all over everything and a beat up, slightly shabby interior that probably looks a lot better after dark, at least to drunk people. Oh, and for kids, the usual healthy choices of super-bland fried items, with heaps of fries on the side, and a couple old videogames in the back, one of which seems to be randomly broken at all times. So while they’re digesting all the fat and starch they just swallowed, they can burn off some quarters enjoying some sedentary entertainment and trying to figure out Golden Tee. And good old sports blaring all over the TVs, like we’re going to miss something in the sizzlin’ hot world of sportertainment if there isn’t a TV within a couple feet of our eyeballs at all times. In short, a typical run-down St. Louis area bar. A saloon stained with a lingering whiff of ancient tobacco smoke and a mild malaise of mediocrity. Other than that, it’s great. Did I mention I don’t care for this place all that much?

We sat down outside and kicked back in the beautiful warm Autumn weather. Great patio outside. Do you have any huge bowls of salads? Why yes, yes we do. And they are chock full of goodness! Tried to be a little healthy even though, hello? we are in a tavern? They did have some great choices, even a vegetarian sandwich just loaded with vegetables and cheese of my choice. Great customer service by the by. as I was sounding a little like Sally in the old movie reference«When Harry met Sally». The waitress did not bat an eye and went along with whatever we asked for.

Laid back bar with their music at a decent volume? Hurrah! Came here on a Saturday night to meet up with a few friends and got some amazing service. I was only drinking water, but even though my drink was technically free, the glass was never empty. You have to appreciate that in a bar tender. That said, everyone else had their drinks filled regularly as well. I was impressed considering the place was pretty packed and it was a Saturday night. The ONLY thing dragging this down to three from 4 stars is the fact that it was REALLY smoky in the place. I mean, my lungs actually hurt like they used to in my smoking days the next morning. I guess I just can’t roll with the smokiness the way I used to.

This place is the definition of a neighborhood bar. Granted, the only times I’ve been here I’ve been dining with the local police who are regulars… not because I’m a trouble maker — shush — but because my dad was a cop in this town forever and many of the cops are like my pseudo-uncles. But the service here is truly outstanding and I’m always treated like family. The food is pretty standard and I can always count on it to be good — it’s nothing to write home about, but I’ve never had a bad meal either. Prices are always right… at least I think they are because someone else is always picking up the tab… but it’s Kirkwood — how bad can the prices be? Overall, it’s a great spot to grab a bite to eat, have a drink, and feel like you’re always welcome — because you are.

Great neighborhood bar and grill. Laid back staff that learns your name if you routinely stop in for a meal or a drink. The kind of place that you can have a conversation with strangers at the bar. Bar food and cheap drinks– plenty of TVs if you want to watch sports.
