Pharoah’s Donuts

The vanilla-​frosted cake donut blew my mind. The generous helping of frosting tasted perfectly sweet, but the real star was the donut itself, with its crunchy exterior and moist, fluffy interior. Based on that, I’m pretty sure if they’d had the blueberry cake donut in stock, it might have ended me.
The cinnamon crumb donut didn’t quite have that same crunch when I bit into it, but I clearly would not kick it out of my donut bag.
Oh, and the smell when you walk in. .. wow.

Visiting from out of town, I stopped by to bring donuts to my office. Delicious! Would recommend to anyone.

Solid donuts and apple fritters, home made mom and pop feel, hole in the wall. or should I say donut hole. sorry too easy. I want to buy them a new sign for outside. worth the stop.

Had these donuts for the first time on New Years morning. Can’t stop thinking about them. Have not had a donut this good since I was a child, over 40 plus years ago at a donut shop fown the street from the YMCA in Granite City, Il in early 70’s. These are the best donuts I have ever had in this day. They were actually warm fresh made too!!! Can’t wait to get more. Just so far from where I live, but I will be making the trip soon.

Finally had a chance to try Pharoah’s Donuts, after years and years of hearing other people tell me how good they were… well here is the verdict.
Glazed donuts 3÷5− The glazed is too sweet like Krispy Kreme’s (which I don’t like) however for some reason unlike Krispy Kreme, it wasn’t straight sugar no mass. This donut has some bounce. You know like more bounce to the ounce. Every time I took I bite the donut would rise go down and come back up like bed mattress.
So even though I tasted too much glazed when the donut 1^st entered my mouth, by the time it got to my stomach I had mass appeal of donut and not sugar (unlike Krispy Kreme). I think it’s the yeast lol
Jelly donut: 4.5÷5 Im not one to usually try jelly donuts. They are just not my thing, but this place’s jelly donuts were looking too good not to try. And it was like WOW this donut is fit for a king. Not too sweet on the glaze and the jelly kisses your tongue at the right time like «Hello I’m here, did you miss me»

Hands down some of the best donuts I have ever had. I’ve been in around 10 times over the past several months and each time the donuts are fresh. By this I mean, the dough is still sweet tasting, the icing is hardened without being stale, and each donut is topped or filled to the correct proportion. I would come here every day if my calorie allotment allowed it.

Pharoah’s Donuts is perfect. It’s exactly what one needs in a donut shop – no more, no less. Situated at the unremarkable corner of 7^th and Pine in approximately 500 square feet of low-​end, barely kept space, Pharoah’s ambiance is nothing to write home about. It’s not supposed to be fancy or quirky or «authentic.» It is what it is. The prep area is dusted with flour and sugar – it’s the first thing I see when I walk in. A friendly man greets me, and I round the corner to inspect the case of donuts of no more than 8 types. For seating, there are two darkly lit tables in the back I wouldn’t dream of sitting at and a street-​view ledge with bar stools. The shop is adorned with maybe a wall clock and the menu, but that’s it. I only need pocket change to make off with some of the truest, most delicious donuts in the city. There’s no bacon, salted caramel, or sprinkly novelties. They’re not overthinking their business (just like one shouldn’t in his or her decision to buy donuts in the first place). I came for one thing: something sweet and soft to pair with my morning coffee. Pharoah’s delivers that thing. 5 stars, no hesitation.

I went here to get some breakfast. The good thing is the donuts are fluffy and delish. They make the donuts right in front of you. The down side of this place is there isn’t a big verity of donuts to chose from.

Pharoah’s has legitimately the best plain old glazed donuts I’ve ever had. My coworkers keep bringing them in to the office and it has officially ruined my low carb diet… worth it!

Simply the Best Donut I’ve ever had. Warm, Light and just plain good. I don’t know what their dough is made of but don’t ever change it. All made right I front of you.

The only reason I’m not giving this place five stars is that the atmosphere is horrible. However, the adage, «don’t judge a book by its cover» has never been more appropriate. I started coming here a few weeks ago when a tourist told me about it and I’m hooked. The only thing I’ve tasted is their glazed donuts and they are so good that I haven’t moved on to anything else. Half the time they are warm from the oven and a perfect combination of fluffy, chewy and sweet. In all fairness, A donut fresh out of the oven would be good any place. However, the trick is to continually make fresh donuts all day long. For my money, an $.85 donut that melts in your mouth is worth any trip. Remember, this is not a pretty place. Just close your eyes and enjoy

Who would have know this little straight to the point donut shop would serve THE BEST DONUTS I HAVE EVER EATEN. Sorry Voodoo. These are aren’t as fancy, but they deliver a party in your mouth. Enjoy!

Incredible. This is no frills, reasonably priced, fresh (sometimes even warm!) and delicious. This may have ruined all future donuts for me.

This small little donut shop has the BEST no frills donuts in the city. I stumbled across this little gem when I worked downtown. My coworker and I were walking to a nearby restaurant for lunch and we literally smelled the scent of deliciousness wafting through the air. After asking several people if there was a donut shop nearby, we found the shop tucked away in a small space oj the 1^st floor of an ofgive building. We skupped lunch and we each purchased a couple donuts. Needless to say, after that 1^st taste I was hooked! Their glazed donuts are so good that, they have ruined my taste for any other. I no longer work downtown and this donut shop is one of the things I miss most!

Awesome donuts, disgusting interior. Got the Boston crème, blueberry and apple fritter. Really good donuts. Best you get them to go though. The shop itself has that freshly vandalized look and is really dirty.

I was in St. Louis for the weekend and was out on a Sunday morning just wandering downtown when I caught a whiff of the sweet, seductive aroma of freshly made donuts wafting towards me from what looked like an abandoned office on the corner of the street. There was sign on the street that said Pharoah’s Donuts with an arrow pointing at a dark door that seemingly led to no where good. Feeling adventurous, I headed in and prayed that this was not my last day in this world. I walked in and was greeted by the sight of a man rolling and kneading dough and the donut smell hit me full on. The register where I placed my order was basically a small display unit, not unlike the ones you see at a butcher, but instead of animal parts it was filled with donuts. I counted maybe 4 varieties of donuts and was a little let down, Stan’s Donuts in Chicago is my all time favorite place and they’ve got every variety and flavor combination of donut you could and could not imagine. I ordered a glazed donut (the benchmark by which I judge all donut shops by) and a blueberry cake donut. The donuts were dripping with oil in the best way possible and had clearly been balls of raw dough 15 minutes ago. I took a bite of the glazed donut and WOW, it was as fresh as a donut can possibly be and it was perfectly sweetened. Just sweet enough so that I can tell that its a donut and not a bagel, and not sweet enough to make me want a spoonful of salt immediately afterwards. The donut was definitely oilier than most but I loved that it was. Its a slightly different experience from the conventional donut and really speaks to its freshness. This donut was moist, not greasy if that makes any sense. Thoroughly blown away I moved on to the blueberry cake donut. I’m not big on cake donuts and actually can’t think of the last time I had a good cake donut, so I was skeptical to say the least. The donut was surprisingly light and airy, a far cry from the dense and Gobi desert dry abominations I usually find at donut shops, and it was incredibly delicious. The blueberries felt like they were on a bush not even 20 minutes ago, I can’t express enough how fresh these donuts are. I loved Pharoah’s donuts and theres a certain charm to the less than fancy presentation of the donuts (they aren’t spectacularly beautiful by any stretch and neither is the shop.) If you’re in St. Louis take 10 minutes out of your schedule and go to Pharoah’s. You can thank me later.

I think the address on Unilocal needs updating. If you stand on the corner of olive street and N 7^th street, it’s not there. The entrance is really on the corner of pine street and N 7^th street, right next to a car ramp.

Use your imagination. Fresh donuts are made on the premise. They are really good, so good I went for donuts for four straight days. The glazed is really soft and tasty, similar to Krispy Kreme. Try the blueberry cake donut too, it’s good.
Must visit if you are in St. Louis.

I somehow missed the sign on the building and in the sidewalk when walking by. It’s on the East corner of Pine and 7^th.
The guy running the show is incredibly friendly. His donuts and eclairs fit into the category of must try. They’re equal to if not better than the Donut Bank in Evansville — another classic donut shop. Comparing Pharoah’s to Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme is an insult to the man who runs this place.
Side note: The coffee wasn’t good.

I have to admit that I have been curious about Pharaoh’s for some time, however they have nver actually been open for direct customer sales instead they focused on resellers. So finally one morning I stopped by Pharaoh’s on my way to work to grab some sweet treats for the office.
I arrived on morning about 7:30 and was greeted by a friendly employee making donuts right in front of my eyes. When you first walk in you will notice a hallway and at the end there is a large open area behind which is an employee rolling out the dounts, its nice to see the fresh preperation.
Prices are reasonable, especially considering the donUts which are large and pretty tasty. Pharaoh’s makes the kind of donuts you remember growing up with and they do it pretty good. I had tried a Chocolate Long John and a Chocolate Custard, the custard was not inside the donut but instead it was in the middle which made a nice treat.
Overall I think that this is a great addition to downtown and I wish them well.
