My mom and I make tamales a few times per year. We are not Mexican, but my uncle is, and he apparently taught my mom well, because we make better tamales than these. Although these tamales are ok, they aren’t the best, especially for $ 3.50 each. Tamales are very cheap to make. Labor intensive, sure, but other than that, they’re pretty inexpensive overall. If they were fantastically good, I’d be ok with paying $ 3.50, but for tamales that are just ok, no. The tamales are a bit … what’s the word? Coarse? Tough? Both? The masa just isn’t creamy and moist like I’m used to. The tamales I’ve had in Mexico, and the tamales my mom and I make, are moist, creamy, and the masa they’re made from seems to be finer ground. They practically melt in my mouth. These, don’t. Anyway … if you can find a tamale nowhere else, these are fine, but don’t expect greatness.

These tamales are some of the best I have ever had and my boyfriend is Mexican! The chicken ones are my favorite but I have only tried those and the jalapeño and cheese ones so I haven’t tried all the flavors yet. These are a bit pricey but so worth it!
