I went in recently looking for some fabric for a Christmas project. They had quite a bit to choose from. I was assisted quickly and even before that I had been asked a couple times if I needed help. It wasn’t constant, just to let me know they were there. Only negative thing is the parking lot. I work nearby and see a lot of accidents and near accidents there. Check for coupons! Always handy to have.

I went into Hancock Fabrics looking for a very specific shade of red fabric. The store was very nicely divided into color groups(for the most part) so I was really easily able to find what I was looking for, which was a huge relief because other fabric stores are not so organized. It’s a pretty big place, but I think they had been going through a remodel or reorganization. The entire back half of the store was kind of empty and looked awful. They also didn’t seem to have much in the way of sewing accessories, but I don’t really know a ton about that. And I overheard one customer saying something along the lines of «where’d the patterns go?», so maybe don’t go here for patterns. But if you’re looking for fabrics, this is the place to go. It seems to do a pretty good business. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and had to wait a few minutes until they opened and there was quite a large crowd congregated by the door waiting to go in. Including one old woman, who was literally banging on the door at exactly noon saying they needed to open up because I guess they were running a few seconds behind.

I can’t say I make things out of fabric often… I can’t even say that honestly I do much sewing… even of buttons… but when I do decide to get crafty and fix my own tears or really challenge myself by hemming up some new pants, I always get my stuff at Hancock. The place is huge, they have everything you will ever need, and the staff is all a bunch of women that are not only more than willing to help you find whatever it is you need, but will give you pointers on how to fix or complete whatever it is your attempting. They have everything from buttons in every shape, color and style to fabric(duh) and threads, yarns, and patterns to boot. It’s not quite as cheap as if you wanted to go across the street to(shudder) Wal-Mart…but I promise you the customer service and quality of the products make the few extra dimes worth it. Besides, the selection beats Wal-Mart…even on their best day… and in their most obnoxious super center.
