Bad service. The coach is very old and kind of dirty. Food is disappointed. Never come again.

Terrible food. Even worse service. Had the pancake(tasteless) sausage(hard as a rock). My friend had a burger, she said it was dry and the fries were the worst. The server acted like it was a pain for him to even be there. Never checked back(I wanted more butter) . Definitely won’t be back

This is my 3rd or fourth time coming to City Diner and I was not disappointed. We ordered the country fried chicken and they let us substitute whatever we wanted. The service can be a little slow at times, but man was the food great! One of the best country fried chicken + mashed potatoes w/gravy and a fresh biscuit! I recommend checking it out! The toasted ravioli as well as the fries, and corned beef hash are also really good!

Went to City Diner at the Fox at 330 on a Saturday. Not a busy time of day and very few people in the restaurant. We were seated immediately, and told someone would be right out. 5 minutes later, and nobody had said even a word to us, never mind taken a drink order. At 10 minutes, we stood up and told the hostess that we were going else where, since no one had served us. Her response(which was the most maddening) was: Oh, ok. Horrible experience. Will not be back. Do not recommend to anyone.

Second time at the Fox. Loved the atmosphere. Very hip and kinda hippy-ish. I had feelings of being retro and«cool» by eating here. We were seated in the«hall-way» area. Different, but quaint. Really didn’t mind because I had a was treating 5 college kids to brunch. Thankfully the Fox seated us(Dad/2 teens) while we waited for the 5 knuckleheads to show up 30 min late. Thank you Fox! I needed that coffee. The table ordered meals ranging from cesear sales to burgers to eggs Benedict. No complaints from anyone. The teens also ordered milk shakes, which looked awesome. Hand dipped with the extra metal mixer provided too. The order is like a shake and a half. I had the«south side» breakfast plate. Eggs, hashbrowns, and a giant biscuit ‘n gravy. It was yummy and very filling. Yes I could skip lunch and dinner after that. The service was outstanding. A manager came over twice to ask if we needed anything!!! Very nice«diner».

This is my second time round and both times before a performance at the Fox. It gets busy! So arrive at least an hour and a half before the show. The food is consistent. I got the Build a Breakfast. Its a lot of food. Quality is just ok. There always seems to be extra wait time for food. Nutshell: moderately priced, ok food, I’ll probably be looking elsewhere first.

Came before a show at the Fox. Told it would be 20 minute wait and after 40 minutes still waiting for table. That is annoying but no cause for a bad review. What made me take time to write Unilocal review was how completely rude the young hostess was when we asked how much longer. I think most people would ask how much longer after 30minutes. She said there we still 14 people ahead of us. When I asked how much longer. She said«ma’am how are we suppose to know how long it will take people to eat» isn’t that what restaurants do when they estimate the wait? 45 minutes and we are still waiting because there isn’t time to go anywhere else. After waiting over an hour and watching them seat a family of 3 without waiting we left and ate a pretzel at The Fox. Never coming back.

We had a great late Sunday morning breakfast here! I ordered the Make A Breakfast, and our waiter was very attentive in making sure the meal was exactly as I wanted, down to every substitution and special request. The french toast was killer and the hash browns were hot and perfectly crunchy, just how I like them. I would definitely return to check out lunch or dinner options; the meal was great!

I would not waste my time eating here! The pancakes are terrible tasting and mine came out almost burned! Everyone else at the table had pancakes that were not burned, thank goodness! The only PLUS to eating here is the proximity to the Fox Theater. Next time, we will probably try somewhere else.

HAD to order the meatloaf omelet and it was delish. Watched the counter guy make a Bloody Mary, so had to have one of them too. No dressings in it, but the flavor and price were excellent.

I’ve been here twice in the past week. The first time wasn’t great, less than friendly and scarce service, but it’s an all-day breakfast diner with wifi. So I went back today at 3:00pm. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for a decade. I know this is the slow time with no customers. Service should be great, at least good. When I arrived, I was seated. And that’s all. Nobody ever came to greet me or get me water or take my order. Seven employees were in the front dining room. One was entering an order into the computer. The other six were not. Two were walking around talking. The hostess was sitting at the bar eating a meal, being served by someone from behind the counter. Nobody cared I was there. I got up and asked three people for a waiter, as I was very thirsty and needed a water. They told me to wait. While they were doing nothing. Didn’t say sorry, just a minute, we’re slammed(they were not). Just wait. There was one table who had already paid their check and was leaving. ONE lady sat by herself at a table. And then me. That’s all. I waited again then asked another passing staffer for the manager. They pointed to him. When he approached me I told him I was leaving because of poor service. That nobody had helped me even when I asked. He was apathetic and acted annoyed. He said«Sorry, I’m the only one on(working as a server) right now.» What a dumb answer from a manager. His staff should assist as needed when people are waiting, and they are not doing anything(especially just standing around doing nothing in front of customers — it’s a bad look) but I’m not surprised they dont, seeing as the management is lacking leadership. I will not return.

I went to City Diner recently after a St. Louis Symphony show on a Sunday evening. We were seated around 6pm and there was a show at the Fox that same night, so they had a lot of opportunity to be busy at this hour. However, we just had to wait for about five minutes while they cleared a table for our party of three. The host was very nice and the waiter apologized for our brief wait, which I appreciated even though the wait wasn’t bad at all. The food is typical diner food. I ordered the Greek Omelet, which is very basic and has eggs, spinach, and feta cheese. Not the best value for the amount that I paid, but it has feta cheese rather than mozzarella and I would expect that to cost the restaurant more. It was accompanied by hash browns cooked just right. I ordered a tomato juice to drink, and my two dining partners ordered a hot chocolate(came with a heap of whipped cream and she liked it very much) and a black decaf(the first pour was fine but the second was cold — an oversight which the waiter apologized for). The other entrees in our order were a short stack of banana walnut pancakes and a standard egg and toast dish. All was pretty par for the course as diners go. The service was prompt and efficient, which I appreciate. No frills, but it’s a diner. The venue is retro-decorative and our booth seat needed severe repair. Overall, I would eat hear when tromping along Grand Blvd, but not go out of my way for the food, when there are other diners that provide the same stuff at lower prices.

Walking in after my night shift one of 4 people in the entire place took over 20minutes to get waters! Our server proceeds to bring our water and inform us that she is currently very sick and should be at home! What? Your handling my food!!! The food was terrible! The«fresh» biscuit was nothing but crumbling mess beneath my fingers! To top it off the butter served was freezer burned and tasted even worse! This is my final attempt to try and like this place, even a little bit!

Went in for breakfast as we love checking out diners. Food was good, service was okay. Benches had tape on them to cover holes and the server dropped the check off and took 20 mins to come back. Still worth a good breakfast and definitely a better choice than what we were considering(Triumph) which was dead.

Decent little diner. Friendly staff. Extremely busy when something is happening at the Fox. Get here early. Drinks are a little weak. Food is pretty good for a diner. The meatloaf is good. The green beans are great with bacon and onions. Nice pie. Had cherry pie with ice cream. Very yummy. Good spot to jump in before the show.

Tried to have dinner at Lucha across the street. Lousy service and walked out. Went to City Diner instead. Fantastic atmosphere. Fantastic burger. Fantastic counter service from Danny! I wish I lived here. I would come in all the time.

Wow, there’s a lot of negativity in these reviews, but after my experience on a Thursday morning for breakfast, I’d definitely go back. I sat down at the counter and got service relatively quickly, even though it was quite bustling w/only one waitress on the floor. As far as the food… first, and critically, coffee was shockingly good! I enjoyed a half-order of biscuits & gravy w/a side of bacon. The biscuit was HUGE& square w/a lot of sausage gravy accompanied by thick, well-cooked bacon. Regarding customer service, the customer base in the morning was quite diverse in age and ethnicity, and it appeared to me that everyone received equal service. Honestly, I don’t expect to get super-zippy service at a diner, and it’s clear they don’t have an efficient cashing out procedure. If you have time to relax, people watch, and munch on diner fare, you’ll enjoy a City Diner breakfast.

My friend and I dropped in here when our show let out, even though it was near closing time. Lots of other theater patrons had the same idea, so one server had to take care of multiple tables. We made our own little mini-rush. The food was exactly what you’d expect from a place called City Diner. It’s good old American diner food. I liked it just fine. What makes City Diner stand out for me is the service. They were slammed, but our server took time to show personal attention to each table. He was terrific at his job and I really appreciated him.

Our server(Daniel, maybe?) was cool, but that’s about the highlight of my last(and final) visit to City Diner. It took forever to get a menu, took forever to get our bland, lukewarm food. The cup of coffee I ordered was cold. Then it took forever to get our check. The original plan was to have dessert, too, but after dinner, those plans were long forgotten. Check, please! Also, I think one of the servers is a meth head.

Excellent steak hamburgers here. If you like Steak ‘n’ Shake burgers, well, the burgers here are even better. I like to eat here whenever I come to the area to catch an afternoon show.

Five stars for yummy diner food and excellent service! Friday night around 10pm was a great time to go grab some grub. Burger was like a thicker version of steak ‘n shake’s…mmm… and fries were awesome! My boyfriend said his slinger tasted«healthier»(if that’s possible) …not super greasy, which he loved. I love the décor of this place. I’ve been there in the past before a show at the Fox. I’d definitely like to come back and check out their brunch menu!

I’m going to tell you when to come to the City Diner at the Fox, not have to wait and get quick and wonderful service. You ready? Saturday morning on a non-show day. We strolled right in around 9 am and only shared the joint with maybe 5 other tables. Service was exceptional — from our waitress to the kitchen staff that delivered the food, everyone was fantastically friendly. The food was average — but I went with the normal bacon and eggs rather than trying any of their unique offerings like the meatloaf omelette or the breakfast burrito. I plan on coming back and doing that! This location is sparkly new compared to the other location and I loved our table right next to the window with a beautiful view of Grand Center.

Went to the Fox to see Kinky Boots and ate at City Diner before the show. We got seated in an annex area of the restarunt which was the hallway of the next building. Kind of odd and uninviting area. Waiter was mediocre at best and the food was not that great either. I would recommend eating somewhere else before getting to the Fox but in a pinch it isn’t horrible.

Cool spot and plenty of people agree, it’s a great spot for breakfast. Don’t expect to be blown away, but do expect to leave happy. Clean, busy, noisy, and for locals. PS…French fries for breakfast and you won’t be judged!
